The Trump Presidency: Part 17

...

His latest is that anyone who gave information to the whistleblower is no better than a spy and... wink wink nudge nudge... we all know how spies were handled in the past....
Trump's fear of being spied on is developing into a full blown paranoia.

I don't think his "base" will give a damn, he is doing what they would do if they had the opportunity.

Instead, we've got Trump pretty much talking about how he wants to execute this whistleblower.

...Correction. That Trump wants to execute the staff members who conveyed their concerns to the whistleblower.

Very publicly fantasizing about the mass execution of much of your support staff is not exactly what I would call acceptable or productive behavior. That, alone, is a friggin' huge red flag... which would mean something if it weren't just one more in a huge field of red flags.

I don't believe that is all that clear.

The Justice Department has wide latitude to interpret the requirements of such laws and told the DNI that the whistleblower law didn't apply here. The DNI is bound to follow their advice.

Whether Justice came to the right conclusion may be debatable, but there's an argument that the whistleblower law was for finding issues in the intelligence community and the president isn't part of that community. There's an argument to be had there.

No, that's not correct. The law says that if the Inspector General rules the complaint as urgent it is to be delivered to the Intelligence Committee within a week. That's the nature of whistleblower laws. They are designed to not allow personal latitude.

If the momentum builds for impeachment such that the Senate has to consider it seriously, would they try for the 25th?

That could be very easy to get anytime, and would avoid inconvenient impeachment evidence coming to light.

The 25th doesn’t really get us much closer to removal. Dudalb has already pointed out that you can use it only on mental or physical incapacity.

Furthermore the process begins by the Cabinet writing a letter to Congress. Then the President gets to write a letter to Congress. And then Congress has 21 days to vote. A 2/3 majority is required in both houses. And I am unsure whether or not the vice president is required to be one of the folks asking for removal.

ETA
on the other hand, I guess some senators might find mentally-unfit-for-office less traitorous to the party than high-crimes-and-misdemeanors. Plus, the 21 days allows for some horse trading and back-room deals.

Ok. I have gone almost three years without calling President Trump’s supporters stupid. I can no longer avoid that term.

We’re talking about a president who edited a weather map with a Sharpie. How stupid does one have to be to believe that guy would release a complete and accurate transcript of a phone call showing he violated federal law?

God, I wish Peter Jackson would make that Dambusters movie he has been talking about for about Ten years now.
No thanks. The world doesn't need another overly long, bloated, over indulgent CGI mess.

The whistleblower whose complaint has led to an impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump is a CIA officer, US media report.

The unnamed officer once worked at the White House, several US outlets said.

The whistleblower says senior White House officials tried to "lock down" all details of a phone call between Mr Trump and the Ukrainian president.

Mr Trump demanded to know who gave information to the whistleblower, saying the source was "close to a spy".

Congratulations to my friend @SenShelby, our powerful Appropriations Chairman, for his hard work on many strong bills that continue to rebuild our military, invest in border security, and many other priorities. Good work and keep fighting, you are winning!

No one has done more behind the scenes for STRONG BORDER SECURITY than @SenCapito. Her bill passed Committee today with $5B for the BORDER WALL. West Virginia is a great State and Shelley gets it done. Keep it up!

The President of Ukraine said that he was NOT pressured by me to do anything wrong. Can’t have better testimony than that! As V.P., Biden had his son, on the other hand, take out millions of dollars by strong arming the Ukrainian President. Also looted millions from China. Bad!

Will be a GREAT and very accurate show tonight by @seanhannity on @foxnews (9:00 PM). Will play my full statement from Air Force One!

(He then tweets most of the show.)

Getting a tweet like that would be like winning employee of the month award.

Trump's fear of being spied on is developing into a full blown paranoia.

His paranoia is fully justified. No small number of his staff/Administration leaks like the proverbial sieve. Because he's not capable of inspiring true loyalty, and indeed engenders a loathing in many who have any real exposure to the creature.

It will turn out to be his ultimate downfall, this naive and mistaken wandering into the world of politics, where eventually the knives come out in a way impossible in his little family-sized fiefdom where he could rule supreme. His ego-fueled desire to get back at Obama will result in Karma bitch-slapping him into ignominy. A schadenfreude-inducing fate anticipated by many millions around the world. I hope that at the end he at least dimly perceives in his heart of hearts how roundly despised he is, and contrasts that against the knowledge that his nemesis, Obama, is so very much more loved.

What's with the utterly inappropriate superlatives?? And isn't the military already many times bigger and more heavily armed than whoever is second?

Indeed! That border wall on the southern side of West Virginia is going to create so many more coal jobs.

To show you how dishonest the LameStream Media is, I used the word Liddle’, not Liddle, in discribing Corrupt Congressman Liddle’ Adam Schiff. Low ratings @CNN purposely took the hyphen out and said I spelled the word little wrong. A small but never ending situation with CNN!

Obama loving (wrote Obama book) Peter Baker of the Failing New York Times, married to an even bigger Trump Hater than himself, should not even be allowed to write about me. Every story is a made up disaster with sources and leakers that don’t even exist. I had a simple and very....

.....nice call with with the new President of Ukraine, it could not have been better or more honorable, and the Fake News Media and Democrats, working as a team, have fraudulently made it look bad. It wasn’t bad, it was very legal and very good. A continuing Witch Hunt!

Does anyone really doubt his mental incapacity

ETA My point being that the GOP could get rid of Trump quite painlessly whenever they want to, as he demonstrates lots of symptoms that they could just choose to stop ignoring.
