The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

It does seem to me that Trump's tweet rants indicate he is getting worse. The amount of time he spends angrily defending himself, attacking anyone who dares criticize him, and boasting about what a great job he's doing is just not normal. It's so very bizarre yet it's become almost the norm anymore. It's just pathetic.

He didn't know about the $130k hush money paid to Stormy either.
Yeah but that was different. Now had he admitted the payment then later forgot he admitted the payment.... or got confused about what he admitted to or didn't.

Not remembering the last time you dealt with a cat 5 hurricane, repeatedly? Now it makes sense why he had that vague recollection he thought someone had mentioned a cat 5 existed.

I know nothing about an Air Force plane landing at an airport (which I do not own and have nothing to do with) near Turnberry Resort (which I do own) in Scotland, and filling up with fuel, with the crew staying overnight at Turnberry (they have good taste!). NOTHING TO DO WITH ME

He didn't know who drew on the weather map, either.

True. But I was thinking along the lines of things Trump has denied knowledge about, not necessarily that he might have forgotten about.

I actually think the "Nobody's ever even heard of a category 5 hurricane before!" thing is just a "normal" lie of his. It's his habit to grossly exaggerate, and he likes the way it sounds, and since he's said it before, it always comes to mind easily.

94% Approval Rating in the Republican Party, a record. Thank you!

There’s two ways this could happen. Is it because Trump is convincing all Republicans that he is doing a good job, or is it that Republicans who do not approve of him are leaving the party?

That’s a serious question. If anybody has got stats, I’d like to see them.

Did he visit any of his relatives?
First off, He didn't visit his great grandma because the reports are that's where she came from, not where she lives. And chances are she's long dead.

Pence was born in 1959. Add 20 years for his mother (if she had her children when she was young) and another 20 for grandmother and another 20 for great grandma again if both had their kids when they were young. That would make his mother 79, grandma 99 and great grandma 118. Or something like that.

Distant relative owns a pub. Who calls their relatives they are in touch with and going to visit a "distant relative"? It was obviously bull ****.

Option C - "none of the above".

It's just a lie.

Sure, that was obvious. But it came across like he forgot about the last time he exaggerated, and the time before that and the time before that.

This has to be a serious memory and/or drug problem, not just Trump's usual bluster.
It’s unfortunate that Trump’s never heard the term, considering he’s been in the Oval Office for not one, not two, not three, but a total of FOUR Category 5 hurricanes—Irma, Maria, Michael, and now Dorian. One would hope he’d remember at least one of those (like maybe the one he spent a year tweeting about), but I guess it’s hard for him to remember stuff if Fox News isn’t whispering it directly into his ear every night.

The 94% rating sounds high, probably an outlier or dubious source.

I don't think that Republican defections account for numbers in the 90% range. Suppose that 70% of those who identified as Republican prior to 2016 approve of Trump now and 30% disapprove. To reach 90% approval by defections alone, 23% of the 2016 Republicans would have to defect. That's a huge number and would be newsworthy.

In fact, according to Gallup, the percentage of voters registered as Republicans was 27% at the time of the 2016 election and it was 27% last month. The Democrats have 1-2% fewer of the registered voters now and the independents have increased.

So, it seems to me that Trump really does have very high approval ratings that can't be simply because the Republican voters have shed never-Trumpers. (Of course, they might have shed some substantial number of never-Trumpers while picking up Trump supporters who weren't previously registered Republican.)

ETA: Adjust the above numbers to 85% to more accurately reflect the polls and the point still stands. A large majority of those registered Republican in 2016 must really like Trump.

Maybe. I just get an "acting" vibe from him when he says it, like he thinks it's "a great line" that gets the crowd ooing and aahing.
ETA: He's always "in character" on twitter, too.

Now that he knows he could actually go to jail over the sharpie-altered NWS map, Trump's now implying he was just trolling us (and "the media") with it:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ig-joke-noaa-isnt-laughing-neither-should-we/

President Trump’s supporters generally have a few different retorts to news about his serial untruths, which now include more than 12,000 false or misleading claims:

It’s overblown by the media.
Every politician does it.
He’s doing it intentionally to troll the media and his opponents.

Trump himself leaned into this last one over the weekend. He tweeted a video around midnight Saturday that depicted CNN as a cat batting at a laser pointer as he moves it around Trump’s doctored map of Hurricane Dorian in which the storm shows a potential to hit Alabama. The message is unmistakable: He’s a master troll, making the media dance with a carefully crafted distraction.

Let’s think for a second about what Trump tweeted Saturday night. He suggested that he’s not really doing all this because of Alabama and Dorian but rather to mess with people. (It would seem odd that someone who is so effectively pulling the wool over people’s eyes would come out and tell them that’s what he’s doing, but let’s set that aside for a second.) He’s effectively saying that he spent a full week of his presidency trolling the country with a trivial debate.
