The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

Actually, I think it's because he does not want people to see what a lousy golfer he is.
As someone who has been golfing for over 20 years, based on the footage we have of Trump golfing, Trump is a duffer if ever I saw one.

Apparently he plays golf like he approaches everything - instinctively, without bothering to consult anyone who knows about it, and he cheats a lot.

That is their strategy. Any win for the other side is a loss for their side. Therefore lose/lose is the preferred option.

I'm always reminded of that saying about people being willing to live in a cardboard box under a bridge, roasting sparrows on a curtain rod over a campfire, as long as they could be sure that the person in the next box over didn't have a curtain rod.

The worst is when the guy next to you has two curtain rods, and won't give you one without you give something in return, and you have nothing he wants.

It seems to me that progressives are extremely anxious about the idea of someone else having a curtain rod that they don't have.

The realization isn't good enough, because Trump's response to definitive proof that he's wrong is to double-down on the false information in defiance of reality and dismiss the evidence as "fake news".

Case in point: On Sunday, Trump wrongly stated that Alabama was at risk of damage from Hurricane Dorian. After the National Weather Service made clear to the public that Alabama was nowhere near the projected path, Trump asserted that FEMA had told him otherwise and reiterated again that Alabama was in danger even after the NWS's correction.

See, that's more evidence of his pathologic narcissism or senility or both.

Trump Tweets

We are doing very well in our negotiations with China. While I am sure they would love to be dealing with a new administration so they could continue their practice of “ripoff USA”($600 B/year),16 months PLUS is a long time to be hemorrhaging jobs and companies on a long-shot....

....And then, think what happens to China when I win. Deal would get MUCH TOUGHER! In the meantime, China’s Supply Chain will crumble and businesses, jobs and money will be gone!

Fork me! This SOB really thinks it's gotta be a zero sum game, where one must win BIGLY and the other lose spectacularly. tRump's not even Medieval in his thinking.

I don't know if I entirely agree with this statement. The only things Trump has bragged about have been the economy and unemployment. The rumor was his entire 2020 POTUS run was going to be based on the economy. I agree that he generally doesn't care about anything, but I think he needs the economy to win and winning is something he does care about...a lot.

It could all go Kaka and Trump wouldn't give a fart as long as the *perception* was that he was winning. He just wants his *base* to think he's winning. Hence the diarrhea of lies he spews forth.

Job one for this asshat is to buffer his ego. Job two is to stay out of jail. Job three is to make money. The 'economy' is but a means to those ends.

What a load of nonsense.

Yeah, pretty much.
A "Duffer" is just about the worst thing a golfer can call another golfer. A really, really, bad player.

Eh, progressives are more about the idea that both of you living under a bridge roasting sparrows on anything is not good enough. Perhaps if you both joined your abilities together, you might both make a better life...in a house each with stoves to cook your sparrows in??

Oddly, I read somewhere a while ago an opinion from someone who I think had played golf with him that he was a pretty good player, but that he cheated routinely anyway even though he didn't have to.

I'm always reminded of that saying about people being willing to live in a cardboard box under a bridge, roasting sparrows on a curtain rod over a campfire, as long as they could be sure that the person in the next box over didn't have a curtain rod.

A similar version I heard was, not surprisingly perhaps, about Russians, who according to this joke are notorious zero-summers. An angel comes down to a Russian farmer and says "I'll grant you anything you wish, but whatever you get, your neighbor will get twice that." The farmer then replies, "put one of my eyes out."

You have a strange view of progressives that has effectively nothing to do with reality, then, if you're serious about this. This does sound like a right-wing caricature that completely misses everything of note in its attempt to find something, anything, to criticize and condemn, however utterly wrong-headed the criticism ends up.

ETA: Seriously, it's pathetic, but it would be more accurate to say that the "conservatives" of today are the ones with two curtain rods, desperately plotting to steal the curtain rod that someone else has with plots that ends up scaring away all the sparrows so that neither gets any food, whether or not they manage to steal the curtain rod from the guy with only one than your nonsense attempt to smear progressives with a vice that applies to the group you're "defending" so much better.

tl;dr? Stop projecting your group's faults onto others.

I thought “cheater” was the worst thing a golfer could call another golfer.

Of course, there is no reason to argue the point because President Trump is both.

........
Allegedly, he doesn’t just do things to help his score, he is also willing to do things to hurt the other players’ scores.

I’m sure it does seem that way to you.

And really, in the grand scheme of things, is being a bad player that big an issue? I started playing a few years back, and I'm not what anyone would call a good golfer. But I enjoy it, and I don't care if my score is in the 200* range some days.

Trump's problem is, he does care, just not enough to actually try to improve his game. He prefers to cheat, instead of either chilling out and enjoying himself, or actually learning how to golf better.

*Okay, that's an exaggeration, but not much of one. I still sometime go over par on my putting alone. So long as no one is coming up fast behind me. I'm not some jerk who slows down the whole course trying to sink every goddamn hole no matter how badly I'm doing.

Trump's problem is he sees golf not as a game but as yet another opportunity to "win". What we call cheating, i.e. not playing by the game's rule-book, is irrelevant to Trump. It's his ball, his clubs, his golf-cart, his links, ergo his rules. So he will play golf how ever the hell he likes, and will win because he always does, and FU. And if that means mulligans, lopping some numbers off his card, getting his flunkies to "help improve his lie and hinder others", and any other get-ahead tactics, that's what he will do.

That line says it all: when I win. That is his mindset. It's all about him "winning". Egomaniac.
I think he means the next election doesn't he? IOW China would have to face another 4 years and so he sees his hand strengthened.

Could be. But that doesn't change the fact that 'winning' in everything is what he really cares about.
