And it used to be worse. In the 1947 movie Life With Father, from Clarence Day's autobiography about growing up in a turn-of-(the 19th)-century family, one problem he struggles with is that his family is Episcopalian, and his girlfriend's (played by a young Liz Taylor) is Methodist. A few good jokes are squeezed out of that conundrum.

During the Iran-Iraq war our administration was sharing raw intel with Saddam that we wouldn't even let the Israelis have because it might expose top-secret intel gathering techniques.

I suspect that the President or ... with his authority ... his representatives can share whatever the hell he wants to with whoever the hell he wants to.

And if, after the fact, someone questions whether or not Kushner had such authority, what do you think Trump would say, and who could gainsay him?

ETA: What did Kushner get in exchange for the intel? The answer to that may indicate other crimes.

My impression is that the president can de-classify anything he wants. And I doubt if he needs any motive other than impressing his fellow world leaders.

That's why I doubt he's being briefed on serious secrets.

I don't think it would have been hard for MBS to deduce that Khashoggi was an enemy.

Now, yes,we do have the concept of "innocent until proven guilty", but the previous poster was suggesting that at the very least such things should get investigated to see if any laws were broken. That sort of investigation is not being done.

I don't think we investigate things to see if a law was broken. We normally have some standard of suspicion that a law was broken and then investigate.

A high places official of a pro Saudi administration did something pro Saudi and completely in line with expectations of what the adminstration supports.

What evidence is there he broke the law?

Sorta moot for Kushner since Trump could just pardon him, anyway, but an impeachable offence for Trump is whatever the House says it is. Yeah, Trump is legally allowed to do it, but Congress is legally allowed to hold him into account if he's doing things that are clearly not in our national interests.

President Trump can’t even get insults correct. The liberals don’t refer to themselves as elite. It was a slam made by talk radio; the intellectuals, the elite have no idea what it means to work manual labor or own a small business therefore they are unqualified to understand common sense solutions, such as banning Muslims.

Such “subtleness” is beyond the President. Referring to one of his enemies as elite (even sarcastically) is beyond his abilities.

The president can de-classify stuff, but I don't think it can just blurt things out; declassification has to be done in a particular way. (Plus, it should also be noted that while Trump may be able to declassify information, Kushner does not have that authority.)

Huh? That isn't what the intel was about.

Kushner visits, has a great time socializing with the Prince. Shortly thereafter the Prince has a number of members of his family put under house arrest, jailed or executed.

The belief is Kushner shared info gathered by the CIA as to who might be the Prince's internal political enemies.

Once again, am I the only one that remembers this? :boggled:

Well, given what we know about Trump allies using their unique access to this administration to push nuclear sales to Saudi Arabia, and given that the classified info was passed through a shady character who really, really ought not have a security clearance himself, I have enough suspicion to want to know what Trump got in exchange for authorizing it. Something in our national interests, or just the warm fuzzy feeling that MBS's enemies would be murdered?

You think there are no laws against trading state secrets for a personal million dollar bailout? Why would it matter if Kushner had permission to trade those secrets?

I remember it, but it got overtaken in the firehose of trumpism. Near as I can tell, what's new is that someone is saying MBS is bragging about it.
