Leaving El Paso for the White House. What GREAT people I met there and in Dayton, Ohio. The Fake News worked overtime trying to disparage me and the two trips, but it just didn’t work. The love, respect & enthusiasm were there for all to see. They have been through so much. Sad!

Incredible afternoon in El Paso, Texas. We love you, and are with you, all the way!

I don’t know who Joaquin Castro is other than the lesser brother of a failed presidential candidate (1%) who makes a fool of himself every time he opens his mouth. Joaquin is not the man that his brother is, but his brother, according to most, is not much. Keep fighting Joaquin!

"For all to see"? His handlers pretty much completely shut out the media.

As your President, one would think that I would be thrilled with our very strong dollar. I am not! The Fed’s high interest rate level, in comparison to other countries, is keeping the dollar high, making it more difficult for our great manufacturers like Caterpillar, Boeing,.....

....John Deere, our car companies, & others, to compete on a level playing field. With substantial Fed Cuts (there is no inflation) and no quantitative tightening, the dollar will make it possible for our companies to win against any competition. We have the greatest companies...

....in the world, there is nobody even close, but unfortunately the same cannot be said about our Federal Reserve. They have called it wrong at every step of the way, and we are still winning. Can you imagine what would happen if they actually called it right?

He probably saw Tucker Carlson claim that America's white supremacy problem is a hoax and there are hardly any white supremacists in the country.

The most interesting part in his mess of a monologue? The entire point of white supremacism is to ensure that non-rich white people will not address, appropriately, because they'll turn to fighting against, and raging about, nonwhite people instead.

I note that Tucker Carlson pulls a $6,000,000 annual salary and is an heir to the Swanson family fortune...

So, can I conclude from this that Pres. Trump is in favor of doing a bit of currency manipulation? The very thing he just chastised China for?

Just watched a world class loser, Tim O’Brien, who I haven’t seen or spoken to in many years, & knows NOTHING about me except that he wrote a failed hit piece book about me 15 years ago.
Trump lost to Tim O'Brien in a lawsuit, and the latter got to see some financials.
Well, to nitpick...

Tim O'Brien is an award winning novelist.

Timothy L. O'Brien is the author/journalist what Trump is s referring to.

He wrote the book "TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald" where he claimed Trump was only worth a few hundred million (as opposed to being a billionaire as Trump was claiming). Trump sued, claiming that the book harmed his reputation. The lawsuit was dismissed for lack of evidence on the part of Trump.

The lawsuit itself is famous for this particular quote from Trump, regarding his net worth:
My net worth fluctuates, and it goes up and down with markets and with attitudes and with feelings, even my own feelings.

Without inflation he is left with raising taxes – a fate worse than death for a Republican. Maybe he could call a constitutional convention of the states, rewrite the Constitution, and default on the debt outright – in his second term of course.
How dare you suggest Trump would consider defaulting on the debt! Its an insult! He is a stable financial genius and would never consider throwing the world economy into turmoil by not paying back the debt in full!

“I would borrow, knowing that if the economy crashed, you could make a deal,” Trump told CNBC. If the U.S. borrowed too much and invested its fresh cash in unproductive products, Trump would tell creditors to accept less than what he'd initially agreed to.

OOps, never mind.

Iran is in serious financial trouble. They want desperately to talk to the U.S., but are given mixed signals from all of those purporting to represent us, including President Macron of France....

....I know Emmanuel means well, as do all others, but nobody speaks for the United States but the United States itself. No one is authorized in any way, shape, or form, to represent us!

Not quite as desperate as Trump is to talk to them...

From: https://www.scmp.com/news/world/uni...donald-trump-says-hes-willing-talk-iran-about
Iranian officials reacted sceptically on Tuesday to US President Donald Trump’s comments that he’s willing to negotiate with his Iranian counterpart, saying instead that if Trump wants talks, he needs to rejoin the international nuclear deal he unilaterally pulled out of earlier this year. Trump on Monday said he’d meet Iranian President Hassan Rowhani “anytime” if the Iranian leader were willing.

Sounds like Trump is the one that's more desperate to talk.

I wonder how the French leadership feels about Trump trying to minimize their actions as to just being a "U.S. mouthpiece"?

Wait, when did Macron or the EU come to represent the U.S.?

What is Trump referring to?

I favor more trade with Iran because I think peaceful international engagement would weaken the totalitarian faction in Iran. As it is, the leaders can just blame the U.S. for their troubles.

I literally laughed out loud at that. :p

This came up as I was reading some other article linked to from this forum. I think it makes some very fair points. Some people were incensed by a 5-word headline: "Trump urges unity vs. racism." It was what literally happened. But some people piled on - how dare anyone write a positive headline, even if this is exactly what a Trump speech said?

What liberals are getting wrong about the Times headline

I want to see Trump gone as much as anyone, but I think demanding ideological purity on the part of a news outlet sends us into an unproductive spiral. It's not enough to be anti-Trump, you have to be viciously anti-Trump. Must every sin be brought up even in a straight article covering a mundane speech? Not every single headline has to be about how evil he is. My $.02.

Sadly, I am seeing the same intolrence of opposing opinions among some Trump opponents that I see in Trump supporters.

And yeah, I think the NYT headline was poorly written, but the huge fuss about it from the militant left is ridiculous.

I agree the headline was a weak target. But I don't agree that headline was accurate reporting. Yes Trump did verbally encourage unity and he said he was against racism. But the headline did indeed imply nothing came before.
Page One banner headline, “Trump Urges Unity vs. Racism,”
Does that sound like a true reflection of the facts? There is a valid reason to say the headline was misleading. And the excuse, they didn't have enough room to add more to the headline, not buying it.

I get it they are walking a thin line to not look like or act like a Democratic mouthpiece. Heaven forbid they ever come across like Fox.

But going out of their way to not look partisan by putting a less than accurate headline up, that makes them look like they are caving to propaganda pressure.

How are the Times and WAPo, etc. going to come across as non-partisan? They aren't doing it by the standard effort to make unbalanced situations look balanced.

That has been their standard when it came to science reporting, so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised they are trying to accommodate Trump propaganda.

This is true, frankly:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that the headline serves “as a reminder of how white supremacy is aided by—and often relies upon—the cowardice of mainstream institutions.”

The editors admitted their headline wasn't exactly a valid representation of the story.
Unity vs. Racism” wasn’t ideal, something the Times admitted by changing the headline to “Assailing Hate, But Not Guns” for the remainder of the print run.

So, accommodate Trump's lies so as to look 'fair and balanced', or, put the facts and truth as the number one goal?

Suppose the headline said, "Trump reports being welcomed in El Paso". If I read that I wouldn't think the Times was falsely reporting that he was welcomed.

The objectionable headline: "Trump Urges Unity vs. Racism.” Couldn't the Times have qualified the headline a bit better making it clear these were Trump's words, not necessarily a fact?

How about: "Trump speech: Unity not racism needed."

That wouldn't irritate me like the headline they chose did.

Sue Gordon is a great professional with a long and distinguished career. I have gotten to know Sue over the past 2 years and have developed great respect for her. Sue has announced she will be leaving on August 15, which....

....coincides with the retirement of Dan Coats. A new Acting Director of National Intelligence will be named shortly.

Two ambassadors, the DNI director AND the deputy all in a week.

Last one is important. Now he can just appoint a lackey.
