“Did George Bush ever condemn President Obama after Sandy Hook. President Obama had 32 mass shootings during his reign. Not many people said Obama is out of Control. Mass shootings were happening before the President even thought about running for Pres.”

Considering the stuff they put in their anime and manga, completely uncensored, I find that hard to believe. Do they have different rules about video games?

Here's a good article:

But what happens when the biggest market for Japanese console games is outside of Japan? You start to see games made in Japan with explicit violence that's only accepted in the West, only for the developers to go back and localize their own games for their own market. Which is really a longwinded way to explain why Leon Kennedy's head can get chainsawed off in the US version of Resident Evil 4 and not in Japan.

More than a decade later, things still haven't changed. 2017's Resident Evil 7 is much tamer in Japan, where the game was developed, than the version that was released in the US. In a scene where a police officer's head gets bisected by a shovel, the Japanese version literally looks away at the moment of impact, only to look back and see that poor man's cranium fully intact.

Here's where the self-localization gets even more bizarre. See, the reason Japanese developers like Capcom keep the explicit content to a minimum is to avoid the dreaded "Cero Z" rating, which legally bars anyone under 18 buying a product with the label. It's a tougher sell to retailers, kind of like the NC-17 rating used in American movies. Sometimes publishers will split a single game into separate releases, one relatively clean for store shelves and a second version to satisfy those who want an unedited experience. Like The Evil Within, RE7 has its own special "uncensored" edition in Japan, dubbed the "Grotesque Version." Except in this context, "uncensored" only means "slightly less censored than before."

So while the camera no longer looks away while the police officer gets stabbed in the head with a shovel, his skull remains intact as his body falls to the floor.

Basically, if it's meant for widespread commercial distribution (which more or less means it's at least going to be marketed to older minors), it would not be uncommon for the American/western version to be less censored and more graphic than the Japanese version.

With regards to the censored decapitation in Resident evil 4 and 7, i have read that it was due to a "cultural taboo against showing beheaded people" in Japan but that might just have been an ass pull by the distributors to justify a decision made because it was deemed "excessively violent".

A GOP state lawmaker in Ohio blames the shooting not just on video games, but also President Obama and drag queen advocates. Who knew?

The comments from state Rep. Candice Keller -- whose district is close to Dayton, Ohio, where a gunman opened fire early Sunday in a popular downtown area, leaving nine dead -- were made in a now-deleted Facebook post on her personal account after the Ohio massacre occurred, according to the Dayton Daily News. The Dayton shooting, as well as a weekend attack in El Paso, Texas, have reignited a national discussion about the causes of gun violence.

"After every mass shooting, the liberals start the blame game. Why not place the blame where it belongs?" the Republican wrote, before going on to list nearly a dozen things she said were to blame for mass shootings.

"The breakdown of the traditional American family (thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates); fatherlessness, a subject no one discusses or believes is relevant; the ignoring of violent video games," Keller wrote in the post.

Along with other things she said were behind the violence, Keller placed blame on "disrespect to law enforcement (thank you, Obama)" and "the Dem Congress, many members whom are openly anti-Semitic."

I was going to say the same thing. After watching everything from DBZ, Inuyasha up to Death Note and a ton of stuff in between. I'm a bit shocked to hear that they censor the game, but reading from that article it looks like they do it for reasons other than gore. Part of that article makes it sound like they censor the game to make it easier to sell to minors, and part of it is, like Arcade said, due to cultural taboo.

They also blur out weiners in porn but have no issue showing the woman in her entirety. Odd.

Oh, dear. If all those things cause mass shootings I guess the simple solution is to shoot all of those things as quickly as possible. That's how it works, right?

I just want to add that marzipan definitely causes mass shootings. So do iced coffee drinks. Okay, good guys?

And there'll be people who fall for this twaddle.

Forget about those. How about Ninja Scroll?

Haha sweet baby J.

That's all mainstream stuff over there as well. These aren't one off shows or anything. (Totally off topic, but watching that stone dude crumble after what he was doing was the best revenge, hands to yourself dickhead.)

Both male and female genitals get blurred out in Japanese porn.

I did not know that.

There is certainly some amount of censorship in anime. Most of the time time when doing manga adaptation, the anime is watered down. Especially TV shows aimed at wide audience. And often you can get uncensored version on DVD.
There for sure doesn't seem to be any law preventing right out obscene gore being put into media in general.
IMHO it's mostly about target audience, and it's auto-censure, not forced.

And come on, Ninja scroll ? That's mild ..

Btw. Ohio shooter supposedly loved anime, but so far I haven't heard any specifics.

I'm willing to bet it was on the extreme side. Nearly everything reported about him shows that he tended to be something of an extremist, more focused on shock value, misogyny, and anti-authoritarianism than anything else.

I also didn't know pornogrind was an actual thing. Apparently he was the lead singer of a band, Menstrual something or another, and was well-known in that community, I don't want to start googling it on my work computer, despite being the one that runs our network.

I'm not usually one to judge others, but he had some issues. He was certainly a dark person, not that it forgives anything. They had some songs with Cannibal Corpse style song titles. It was pretty wild.

I wouldn't call it mild, but I wouldn't call it disturbing either. The point is that this sort of violence is seen all the time, so I don't know why video games would be censored, unless they're trying to lower the age of the audience.

I'll take this opportunity to say that Cannibal Corpse is the absolute worst thing I've ever heard. Including loud construction work.

You will get no arguments from me. As a percussionist I listen to all sorts of music to stay current on the different playing styles as best I can. Their music is next level terrible, but their drummer is really decent.

This Betts guy had a rape\kill list in high school that he would actually show women.

Another former classmate told The Cincinnati Enquirer in an interview that Betts had threatened to kill her multiple times when they were in a school musical as seniors. But the classmate, Eva Lewis, didn’t speak up because she didn’t want to encourage his behavior even though she was on Betts' "kill list."

...

The band's song titles also are extreme and explicit, sometimes referencing sexual abuse of a corpse.

He was a disturbed individual. He choked a girl he was dating when he was 15, and had a lot of mental issues it appears. Politics aside there seems like a million red flags here that those around him brought up, but nothing was really done about it. This kid needed a bunch of mental help.

I tracked down some "pornocore" music out of curiosity, and trust me, it's far worse than Cannibal Corpse.

As soon as I saw that the shooter had been involved with a style of music like that, my first thought was "how long will it take for me to see politicians blaming heavy metal for shootings again?" Luckily, I've only seen one article, and it was from a conservative site, but if they keep talking about video games, it wouldn't be out of place for them to regress all the way back to the 90s for the music criticism, too.
