Since it happened before the tweets, I see no reason for suspicion. You'd have to imagine Trump knowing he was about to start this fight before he did (very unlikely, since he was triggered by Fox News) and the administration paying someone to break in.

This isn't Watergate. This is coincidental.

Which goes back to why Trump went on the attack and when he learned of what he went on the attack about. I'm quite willing to agree that it was probably a coincidence. With that said, though, as noted in articles like this one -

"At this time, it is unknown if any property was taken from the location," a police spokesman told CNBC.

I would say that it's not outside the realm of plausibility, given the current limited information at hand, that the break in was done in hopes of finding blackmail to get Cummings to back off the subpoenas for relevant communications using private accounts by, for example, Kushner and Ivanka, that were not forwarded to government accounts within the legal time limit. After failure, then the rage tweets would have begun.

Again, I would definitely not bet money that that actually did happen, but with this group in office, I would be completely unsurprised if it did. Hence, I still stand behind suspicious, but definitely not something to go further with without hard evidence.

I guess we're not all afflicted with TDS after all :9.

Will Hurd (R–TX-23) announced today that he will not seek re-election to a fourth term in the House.

Hurd’s district, TX-23, is one of the largest in the country, covering over 50,000 square miles in west Texas between San Antonio and El Paso. He barely won re-election in 2018 over Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones, winning by just 0.5%.

Hurd is the ninth House Republican to announce his retirement this year, and the third from Texas this week.

In that particular district, a Trump fanatic might not work. It's a likely-to-go-blue district with the incumbent not picking up that large handful of name-recognition votes. A rabid anti-immigration candidate would lose.

Not sure how that really "makes things worse". After all, at the end of the day even Trump's biggest critics in the Republican party would line up behind the rest of the GOP to vote for whatever Trump wanted.

If they do get a Trump fanatic in place:

Best case scenario: Voters reject the crazy, and the democrats take the seat

Worst case scenario: The crazy gets in, Republicans in congress vote as they would have anyways, but with one less black Republican it gets harder for them to say "Look we're not really racist... we've got a black guy"

Real reason: Radcliff was such a bad pick for DNI that GOP leaders in the Senate told Trump enough GOP senators would break ranks with Trump and vote against him so that his nomination could not go through.

Chairman Graham just broke FOUR committee rules in order to advance Pres. Trump’s bill to lock up immigrant children INDEFINITELY. Rules every Republican voted for 6 months ago. Rules I always respected as chairman.

They might as well rip them up. So I did it for them.

I'm not sure that anything more needs said. At this point, additional spoken condemnations for how very, very not normal, cruel, and chaotic the behavior of the Republicans is... seems pointless. They know what they're doing. They know it's condemnation-worthy. They don't care and think that they'll get away with it anyways - and there's a decent chance that they will.
