Cont: Brexit: Now What? 7th heaven...

Sitting in a London pub reading the front page of the Standard. A minister has leaked news of an emergency budget in Autumn to raise taxes to fund a 'no deal' exit and pay for Boris's spending pledges. Apparently the £26bn war chest will not be enough. No doubt the brexiteers will be all over this fatalistic fear mongering from people who don't share BoJo's optimisation, people who don't believe in Britain rather it is from ....... err....... hard core Brexiteers.

He also wants to fund 20K extra cops within the next three years. Well, might need them if people start rioting over food shortages and inability to piss off abroad.

I would go further.

It won't make any trade deal with the UK until the backstop provisions are fulfilled and the divorce bill paid.

And why would any other country or bloc trust the UK if it reneges on its previous treaty obligations for no reason?

Police college and forces say they don't have the resources or facilities to train that many new cops in three years.

Plus entry requirement is a degree! A degree to be a copper?

Tell 'em to come here.

The fitness test is fairly stringent, but academically, being able to spell your own name correctly and tie your boots by yourself is good enough to put on the blue uniform.

You seem convinced that the Conservatives would an election if it was held now, but you are in favour of a VONC that has no chance of being anything but an empty gesture, and if by some fluke it did succeed would lead to Johnson consolidating his grip on power? I really don't see the logic there.

The conservatives would win an election now yes. They will win an election at any time in the near future so that's irrelevant. They would however likely be wiped out in Scotland and have no legitimacy to govern there or to deny an indyref.

I would like an opposition that actually opposes however. At the minute they are merely facilitating Brexit. Whenver given an opportunity to actually oppose the government they elect not to do so. This is merely the latest example.

i also support a VONC as it would force a number of Tories that want to appear to be above it all to show that they support this cretin. And the DUP also. let's see people's true colours.

When the SNP demanded Police Scotland recruit 2000 extra police, they had to recruit people who would have otherwise been rejected and the police college at Tulliallan could barely cope. Training standards, especially fitness, plummeted. There was so much trouble with new recruits misbehaving, that the college went into lockdown, with all recruits confined to their rooms, lights out by 9pm.

It is not possible to recruit 20K decent well trained cops in 3 years.

Not quite, the training itself is being boosted to such a level, that it has been approved as having degree status.

The training I did, to pass college and then promotion exams, is the most academic work I have done, with no qualification at the end of it.

The plan is that all cops will have a degree once they complete their training.

For cops who already have a degree before joining, their degree gives them credits towards the police degree.

The point is that there is a lot of academic work involved in the police, primarily understanding the law, its application and the ability to gather information, collate it and report write. That part of the job has always been brushed aside by people (both police officers themselves and the public) who think all a police officer needs is common sense and the ability to tackle a drunk youth up for a fight.

There are lots of examples where the police have failed, because those in charge of major investigations have been shown to be too stupid to run such operations. "Nick" and Operation Yewtree are recent examples. The police who ran that showed a terrible lack of understanding of even the basic rules of evidencing.

We need more intelligent police, who also have common sense and the ability to tackle a drunk youth up for a fight. That cannot be done in 3 years with 20,000 new recruits.

Couldn't they re-recruit all the guys that have been cut recently?

Little wonder some people in Government don't see any benefit to the EU when they can't even find ways to spend the money they give us to help the poorest people in society.

Maybe helping the poor is such an anathema to Tories that they can't bring themselves to do it even with other people's money. Were probably working out how they could siphon it off to their mate's accounts.

The 'Nick' affair was interference from 'investigative journalists' and politicians.

If there isn't a thread on this yet, I am going to start one.

Perhaps a campaign overseas to attract new immigrants, for all it's a job I'd not like to do it is well rewarded, could see a lot of people from foreign climes being interested.
