That's my point. If they haven't heard it by now, it's because they either don't care, listen to news that only covers one side, or they just don't want to know what's in it. None of that is going to change with this testimony. The only difference is they'll have soundbytes of Mueller saying stuff instead of quotes from the report. Both sides of the news aisle will.
No, it's because the news media needs soundbites before they will pump out information.

That's as may be, but my point is still valid. They are going to get their information from the same media that has enabled them to avoid seeing any of the relevant information up until now. You might get a small handful of people that watch Mueller testify and change their minds. That's a huge might.

The whole point is the information has been out there for a few months now. Mueller has said he has nothing new to add.

But having Mueller testify on live TV will reach a much larger audience. Sure, some of that audience is addicted to Fox News and will believe it all to be lies and fake news.....but not all of the audience is like that.

Every day Trump repeats over and over his lies.

Why do you think repeating the truth a few times as a counterpoint isn't useful?

And not only that, Mueller and the Democrats will have the ability to present the information in a way that avoids the Trump filter.

Granted, I'd prefer a more straight forward statement from Mueller: Trump would be prosecuted if not president. But even "I didn't clear the president" will be useful for people to hear.

I guess I just don't agree with that. I don't believe it will reach anymore people than the original report release and coverage did. To me it's still the same people watching the same channels getting the same spin.

Speak the truth all you want. I'm not of the opinion that responsible news organizations are NOT telling the truth. I believe the people who want the truth have looked it up and have it by now. I believe the people that don't want the truth will continue to watch the propaganda that keeps them from getting it. CNN, ABC, NBC, Fox, etc. are all airing it live. People will zone into their echo chamber like usual when big things come out.

Hmm. There's also the "What would it take to change that person's opinion?" factor. People like many of those here prefer evidence of truth and consider a rational evaluation of that paramount... and may risk forgetting that significant portions of the population simply don't care. On the other hand, if they consider something to be, for example, a threat to their kids, that might change their mind. Right-wing propagandists know and exploit things like this quite a bit.

I think you overestimate how much the average person pays attention to this....and admittedly, I'm no expert, either. But I'm confident very few read the report. Some people watch news channels (Fox, CNN, whatever) regularly, but I think a lot of people hear the headlines repeated and that's about it. Of these, I think a significant portion hear Barr or Trump say, "Totally exonerates...No Collusion, No Obstruction" and think that's the end of it. I believe there is a significant audience that has yet to be reached by headlines, which Mueller's testimony will grab.

I believe there's a rather large middle ground that these comments ignore.

Then what could explain him falling for that other than stupidity?
I don't think he'll fall for it, I was suggesting a way to avoid getting the "hypothetical question" dodge. It relies on my crediting Mueller with some level of sentient self-awareness.

You apparently missed a very important "if" in my statement.

That I did not go on to spell out the further implications is just a disappointment you'll have to live with.

OK. So what is the value of avoiding that "dodge"? Do you expect to get something useful from that question?

Trump Tweets

Just got back only to hear of a last minute change allowing a Never Trumper attorney to help Robert Mueller with his testimony before Congress tomorrow. What a disgrace to our system. Never heard of this before. VERY UNFAIR, SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED. A rigged Witch Hunt!

The value of avoiding that dodge is to not have built this hearing up only to walk away with 90 minutes of Mueller saying "I can't speculate on hypotheticals." That will play right into the "no there there", "political witch hunt" narrative.
