The Trump Presidency 15

I'd have some sympathy for that position if it weren't for the fact that:

  1. Senators have a 6-year term, staggered in 1/3s. That means 2/3rds of them won't have to face the wrath of the electorate any time soon, and by that time, we'll (hopefully) have moved on from the Trump era
  2. Incumbents are re-elected a ridiculously high percentage of the time, even if they're complete ********.
  3. While such an action might alienate some people, right now, it would draw in more voters that it repells. Take a look at how many Democrats misss John McCain now, after having opposed him when he ran for President.

Comparing this to someone pointing a gun at your head is a ridiculous analogy.

Particularly when we have recent examples of people actually tackling actual gunmen to compare it to.

Do you honestly think more people are going to vote for Amash than he lost?

How do people keep buying into his crap?! If I'd read a story with a character like him succeeding in manipulating a populace, I'd have criticised it for being badly written and unrealistic. But here he is, a snake oil salesman from a rejected latter-day Simpsons script, and millions are falling for it.

Because he's telling them what they want to hear - a ploy as old as the hills.

People want to think that their problems are someone else's fault (ideally an easily identifiable minority), that they can be easily fixed and that the guy telling them this will fix them.

Because people can be dreadful, stupid, and dreadfully stupid. Citation: human history.

the Mayor of San Juan is a despicable and incompetent person who I wouldn’t trust under any circumstance, and the United States Congress foolishly gave 92 Billion Dollars for hurricane relief, much....

....of which was squandered away or wasted, never to be seen again. This is more than twice the amount given to Texas & Florida combined. I know the people of Puerto Rico well, and they are great. But much of their leadership is corrupt, & robbing the U.S. Government blind!

Most of the MS-13 Gang members indicted & arrested in L.A. were illegal aliens, 19 of 22. They are said to have killed many people in the most brutal fashion. They should never have been allowed in our Country for so long, 10 years. We have arrested and deported thousands....

....of gang members, in particular MS-13. ICE and Border Patrol are doing a great job!

But is that really all that it takes? He isn't playing a psychological version of 3D chess here. Everything he says is so cringey that I have to force myself to get through his speeches, and he practically exudes sleaziness.

Is he actually a competent schemer, and I just don't see it? And if he isn't, what happens if a competent version of him gets elected?

Go look at any of the people running those "megachurches" that so many Trump voters attend, and report back on the level of cringe that these voters were already willing to accept prior to Trump running for office.

Particularly if they're "Prosperity Gospel" preachers.

Wow, that came out of nowhere.

It helps that you only hear stuff from fox news and sinclair media.

I think they believe and follow Trump for the same reason they believe crisis actor and 9/11 truth nonsense. Lack of critical thinking and a mind closed to sources that don't say what they want to hear.

Very interesting article. Excellent reasons why Trump must not be reelected.
I am an Ohio farmer and I voted for President Trump. He boasted during the campaign that voters would beg him to stop winning. I’m begging him to quit losing.

After his inauguration, the president pulled out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. He bragged he could do better. The TPP would have expanded U.S. farm exports to 11 Pacific Rim countries forming a massive free market zone, excluding China. The TPP would have increased annual U.S. farm revenues by more than $4 billion. All lost.

Trump called NAFTA “the worst trade deal maybe ever signed anywhere.” But since 1994, U.S. agriculture exports to Mexico and Canada have quadrupled. American farmers export more than $40 billion in agricultural products each year to those two countries. The president is wrong. NAFTA was and remains the single best deal for Midwestern corn, soybean and livestock farmers in my professional lifetime.

Now while I don't believe the hallmark for a trade bill is whether or not it helps/hurts US agriculture, it's obviously an important metric. My fear with Donnie has been all along, his supporters love to hear him bash TPP and NAFTA and Trump knows that. It's candy for his base. But does he know what he's talking about? There is nothing I see in his experience or background that would necessarily provide him with any particular insight on trade deals. Just the reverse, in fact. It has always appeared to me he was just mindlessly ripping NAFTA and TPP in order to score points with his base.

Only in the years ahead, when tempers cool, will we be able to objectively quantify the damage Trump has done to the U.S. I think it will be enormous. :(

It may also be wrong...

From: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-...to-rico-amid-political-turmoil-on-the-island/
Puerto Rico has received $11.2 billion in aid from FEMA and other agencies as of April. Mr. Trump's figure is the number estimated by the Office of Management and Budget of how much the island could receive over the next two decades.

Come on. Cain's post was obviously sarcasm, as is often the case. I mean, after all these years it's a bit ridiculous that some people still don't get that about Cain.
I thought Cain's post was nuanced in a very clever way, it made me go back and forth once. Well-constructed. C is upping his game.

I'm glad to see the news is finally using the word 'lie' instead of euphemisms when it comes to Trump's... well...lies. Today Trump stated that he was "not happy" with the "send them back" chant used at his rally last night and that he stopped the chant. Both are outright lies and the CNN News anchor Brianna Keilar said "He lied". The video proves he lied:

The first 5 minutes of every hour of news should be fact-checking this turd. They should be willing to point out when his facts are correct, but every lie needs to be called out repeatedly between now and next November.
