... Just in case you missed that, let's repeat. His approval actually ROSE with Republicans. By 5%, no less. ....
Always makes me want to ask, how many people left the GOP and did that affect this number?

More people in the GOP might approve of Trump, or, more people in the GOP that don't approve of Trump might have left the party.

As I understand it, very roughly party affiliation is 5% Other, 25% GOP, 30% Democrat and 40% Independent (who tend to lean GOP). In that poll, the President's approval fell 10% among Independents and rose 5% among GOP but remained pretty stable overall. If the number of people with GOP affiliation had dropped significantly, we should have seen a significant drop in his overall approval.

If someone was asking that question in this particular poll.

For the GOP and his base, Trump needs to win.
It's the only thing that matters.

If four "nasty women" get him to back down, the spell might start to break, and people might begin to wonder how long they can keep on pretending that the Emperor isn't in fact buck naked.

So in good old "it cannot be what must not be" fashion (as seen in Climate Change, etc.) Republicans claim against all evidence that Trump isn't a racist.

<snip>

Just in case you missed that, let's repeat. His approval actually ROSE with Republicans. By 5%, no less. I don't think that there's much clearer of a sign that the Republican Party completely earned the accusations of racism.

<snip>

We have at least reached the point that it is incumbent upon anyone who calls themselves a Republican to prove they are not racist bigots. The elbow room for any 'benefit of the doubt' is long gone.

Assuming they are is not only the smart money bet, it's also probably safer, since decent people would not be inclined to trust them.

AS I said before this isn't even the McCarthy freakout, it's just the usual "strategy" of grafting the word "communist" onto whatever it is that perceived black and Hispanic leaders are doing. Just another way of saying "These darkies can't be good Americans like us good white people are."

And somewhat ironically (We seem to have a surfeit of irony these days.), the primary targets of the McCarthy era red-baiting were the Jews.

Got to generate a little cognitive dissonance.

Is he just doing rallies at smaller and smaller towns or did this rally have some alleged ‘support this guy’ reason?

As was pointed out, Greenville isn't all that small, as NC metro areas go. More telling, it is in the heart of the old Jesse Helms territory.

But the main reason he was here, and the reason he'll be back ... a lot, I expect ... before Nov. 2020, is that his margin of victory in NC was pretty slim (less than 4%) in 2016, and the state had gone to Obama in 2008 and almost did (he lost by a 2% margin) in 2012.

We're the ninth most populous state in the U.S., and while no California or Texas, that still adds up to a decent sized chunk of EC votes.

The Dems taking the state in 2008 was something of an anomaly, but the GOP margin has been eroding fairly steadily over the past quarter century. Trump needs to worry about keeping NC.

The United States House of Representatives has just overwhelmingly voted to kill the Resolution on Impeachment, 332-95-1. This is perhaps the most ridiculous and time consuming project I have ever had to work on. Impeachment of your President, who has led the....

....Greatest Economic BOOM in the history of our Country, the best job numbers, biggest tax reduction, rebuilt military and much more, is now OVER. This should never be allowed to happen to another President of the United States again!

Together, we will continue unleashing the power of American enterprise, so every American can know the dignity of work and the pride of a paycheck. With your help, we will elect a Republican Congress to create a safe, modern, fair, and LAWFUL system of immigration! #MAGA2020

The Republican Party is the Party for ALL Americans. We are the Party of the American Worker, the American Family & the American Dream. This is the proud banner the Republican Party will carry into the Republican National Convention next summer in the great city of Charlotte, NC!

Just returned to the White House from the Great State of North Carolina. What a crowd, and what great people. The enthusiasm blows away our rivals on the Radical Left. #2020 will be a big year for the Republican Party!

230-198 - House Criminal Contempt Vote finds Barr and Ross guilty

Absurdly well warranted, unfortunately. This one's over the census - the lies and withheld relevant documents, incidentally. It's an escalation, but it's questionable how much the DoJ's going to do about it. Claims of executive privilege come into play, too, incidentally, but... given how absurdly nonsensical the use of executive privilege has been during this administration, well, I'm rather inclined to completely remove that authority from their hands or have it severely restricted.

"Oh man someone took a crap in the salad bar."
"HA! Jokes on you! He did it ironically because he knew it would make you mad!"

Come on. Cain's post was obviously sarcasm, as is often the case. I mean, after all these years it's a bit ridiculous that some people still don't get that about Cain.

I am watching the “Send her back” chant at the Trump cult rally... this is sad stuff. This is fascist dictator ****. A crowd of mindless drones chanting hate slogans. What a mess.

Seriously, are they saying this about AOC or Omar? How the **** are the GOP going to square this with the ridiculous apologetics they have trotted out?

Looks like they are out of the closet now.

Except that it's being portrayed as patriotic Americans taking a stand to protect their country from radical communist Islamists.

Yes the GOP will stand foursquare behind these proud patriots and do everything within its power to protect the US from external threats.

That's why dudalb keeps hinting at a coming civil war. This kind of rhetoric can get deadly pretty quickly, as The Atheist has pointed out in the other thread.

Trump rallies are fast turning into...well...rallies.

Law enforcement and the military are strongly in favour of the GOP in general and President Trump in particular. There won't be a civil war IMO.

Yes there may be tens or hundreds of people killed by racists who are "protecting America". The GOP will consider this an acceptable price.
