Given that there is no way the senate would convict would impeaching him be wize? Hearings are needed but really everyone knows he is a criminal and racist. Republicans like that about him and as long as the base loves those things and the elected officials don't care impeachment is not going to do anything.

It's unwise if one decides that only the final procedural result matters. It's pretty easy to see that the process could damage Trump significantly given that the Mueller report contains clear examples of Trump obstructing justice. It would also highlight the fact that Trump and company have been ******** all over congressional subpoenas. Impeachment would at the very least put the administration on the defensive for the foreseeable future.

If the House is going to use the Senate as an excuse, why are they even bothering to show up for work?

This is a double edge sword though.

There's extreme political risk in putting Trump to some test that we know we can't actually get him to fail.

We don't want "The Dems did everything they could to prove I'm dirty and couldn't touch me!" to be the message he goes into 2020 with, and that message is gonna be an easy sell to his base.

Trump is just playing the "fake news" media. It's hard to see how Trump could get added mileale just by repeating old Trump themes. But opposing and insulting 4 Democrats dd it. He wants fame..,he got it. But not one new vote for him. On the other hand, he did not need this. He will get the same 40-45% of votes no matter what.

There probably exists a popularity floor. More unpopular than almost any president at this point and time and considering the economy may be the floor.

You could do something like reinstate pork barrel projects. I have heard those were used as levers by party leadership to strengthen their position. If one of the problems is party leadership doesn't have power to be a moderating influence, restoring that power could help.

Another problem is that there is no reward for bucking partisanship. Amash went independent. Are democrats going to support him for doing what democrats have asked republicans to do? Or will it be an opportunity to pick up a seat against a split ticket? Future republicans will make decisions based on what happens.

Which is probably the best we can hope for (and, if successful, will probably allow the democrats to win. Remember, many former Obama voters simply stayed home in 2016.)

That's easy... allow the republicans to implement their health care plans. Since Trump tends to appeal to the more uneducated and older voters, they will probably be more affected by republicans attacking Obamacare and/or Medicare. More of them will die off. Problem solved.

Not really sure why Trump is bragging about this.

The arrest was done by Pakistani authorities. Pressure was coming from India and he Financial Action Task force as well as the U.S. And they actually had Saeed in custody back in 2017, but let him go. (So much for Trump's "pressure".)

I see he's ignoring the other 50%, according to his own sources.

He's also ignoring the fact that his popularity was actually higher in some of the Rasmussen polls taken in June (one from June 9-11 had him at 51%.).
