Cont: Brexit: Now What? 7th heaven...

Why wouldn't the EU want to do something to get some kind of end to this instead of continually kicking it down the road? How do you propose they make the UK "**** or get off the pot".
I was intrigued last night by Boris's use of a hard no deal Brexit to scare the EU into giving us all we want. If the EU says they now want to go for a no deal Brexit the UK would crap itself.

Juncker stands down 1 November and staunch federalist, Ursula von der Leyen is due to step in. Her dream of The United Federal States of Germania could be blown if the UK is allowed to leave, so she might well be acquiescent to BoJo's demands. Well, you never know.
You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

But the notion he might be appointed Britain's ambassador to the US is surely fantasy. The UK invariably (so far as I know) appoints senior career diplomats as ambassadors. Such posts are not used as sinecure rewards for politicians.

According to a chap on R4, it does not have to go to a career Civil Servant and there are various examples from the past where it hasn't. It is more usual for it to be a Civil Servant though.

Oh, God no. At this rate, Prince Charles needs to start worrying that he will be dropping a place down the line of succession as NF is lined up to be the next monarch.

It is incredible to watch a small group of people successfully manipulate enough of the population into doing something that only really benefits that small group of people.
Hmm reminds me of some people:
The Doc said:
A broken down drug-addicted ex-pilot, a failed chicken farmer, an unsuccessful snob of a champagne salesman with a fake title and a ratty little lecher embittered by a club foot.
A gang of total deadbeats, led by a paranoid failed art student.

All hope is not lost. You could convene parliament at stonehenge and sacrifice a virgin. That might help.
I favour a nice boat trip for the UK's parliamentarians. Down the Thames to the Nore, near Sheerness. Anchor at one of the handy buoys.
Maybe some fireworks...

Corbyn's still trying to find a form of weasel words to bamboozle Labour's Remain-voting majority into imagining he isn't a died-in-the-wool Leaver determined to get Brexit through.

He now says Labour wants a 2nd referendum and will support Remain over a "Tory Brexit" or No-Deal. Great, except that basically means Labour supports Remain so long as the Tories are in power. Which means while Labour don't have the votes in parliament to do anything about it.

If Labour win a general election then we get treated to a "Labour Brexit" which of course will be identical to a Tory one because there is only one deal and the negotiators went home months ago.

So Labour's policy is Remain unless you vote for them.

Three years Corbyn's been facing the widest open goal in British political history and he shows no sign of even putting his boots on, never mind finding a ball.

Do you think he's been watching Catch-22?

On another forum where I'm pretty universally reviled (by the Brexiteers, because I'm a Remoaner and by the lefties because I'm Blairite scum ) those on the left are arguing that a Labour Brexit will see the end of neo-liberalism in the UK, and probably in the EU as well.

They insist that Labour will be able to be part of a Customs Union despite not being willing to be bound by the rules of a Customs Union (separate trade deals, heavy government subsidy). Whilst Brexiteers insist that they will get an impossible deal because of British (well English really) exceptionalism, those on the left are relying on Corbyn exceptionalism.

And the thing is that the only populace they ever take into account is the british. The rest of the EU is getting damn tired of this and their politicians have to deliver an ending to this as that is what they want.

When basing your whole policy on playing chicken don't be the one in the sub compact instead of the giant truck, betting you can make them swerve into a ditch and roll over.

That's funny. It's far too late now to get any kind of Corbynist "Labour Brexit" negotiated because Corbyn failed to win in 2017.

If any other Labour leader could have won, it wouldn't matter anyway because any electable Labour leader would have campaigned against leaving in 2016 and the referendum result would have tipped the other way.

Meanwhile Conservative ex-Prime Minister Sir John Major has said that he will seek a judicial review if the new Prime Minister tries to prorogue Parliament.

The response from Boris' camp ?

A source close to Boris Johnson told the BBC's assistant political editor Norman Smith that Sir John "has gone completely bonkers" and had "clearly been driven completely mad by Brexit".

Shades of the rhetoric coming from the White House ?

One of the supposed reasons for Brexit was so that we would "regain our sovereignty". Seems like the US President is telling us who our ambassador should be. Can't see that happening if we weren't desperate for a trade deal

Massive Godwin, but I do not care.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48934781

"Former prime minister Sir John Major has told the BBC he would seek a judicial review in the courts if the new prime minister tried to suspend Parliament to deliver a no-deal Brexit.
Sir John said such a move would be "utterly and totally unacceptable".
Using a judicial review, anyone can apply to challenge the lawfulness of decisions made by the government.
Boris Johnson - the frontrunner in the Tory leadership race - has refused to rule out proroguing Parliament."

Hitler was democratically elected and then started to dismantle that democracy.

So Democracy is as fragile in the UK as it is in the US.
Fact is that there seems to be worldwide assault on Democracy..and I smell Putin as being behind it.
One difference between the US and the UK..here in the US we have the "appeal to arms" as a last resort against tyranny...you Btits don't.

Since when was a gun needed for
- peaceful resistance
- rioting
to force down a government?

Since when did an armed public successfully prevent the establishment of a dictatorship?
