The Trump Presidency 15

Every once in a while, I wonder who's being retweeted by the President.
...
The timeline on Mr. Brown's company reminds me a lot of the science threads on Brilliant Light Power and other energy scams. Lots of claims. No product.
...
Mr. Brown doesn't appear to have even manufactured his primary product, let alone manufactured any jobs.

But look at these fantastic testimonials. Oh, wait...

No, voter registration has no relation to the census. People who want to vote actively go register for it.
Sorry, as a Canadian I find that very weird.
Canada doesn't use the census for registering voters either.

Instead, Canada maintains its "National Register of Electors" through a variety of methods:
- Provincial drivers license databases
- Canada revenue agency records (remember, there is a box on your T1 tax form asking "do you want to register to vote" (or something like that)
- Provincial voter registration records
- Manual registration

When I Googled the name, I found a company that makes, among other things, sewage pumps, which I found amusingly appropriate. I guess it was a different company with the same name. I should have included his name in the search.

Think of what kind of clown operation our President's communication shop is. He just retweeted a random scammy CEO of nothing because he said something nice about the president. A nobody like me, in 5 minutes, found out that the guy is a scam. In the past, he has retweeted "white genocide" or whatever. I just can't believe how amateurish this stuff is.

A truly great, patriotic & charitable man, Bernie Marcus, the co-founder of Home Depot who, at the age of 90, is coming under attack by the Radical Left Democrats with one of their often used weapons. They don’t want people to shop at those GREAT stores because he contributed....

....to your favorite President, me! These people are vicious and totally crazed, but remember, there are far more great people (“Deplorables”) in this country, than bad. Do to them what they do to you. Fight for Bernie Marcus and Home Depot!
Ignoring the hypocrisy of Trump's statement for a moment (after all, the political right has also been known to use boycotts as well)...

Does anyone think this might actually backfire on Trump and Marcus?

After all, not everyone knew about the calls for a boycott of home depot, or its founder's support for Stubby McBonespurs. (Before today I didn't.) But now that Trump has tweeted about it, millions of people now know about the situation. (I know I for one will avoid shopping there in the near future, spending my money at Walmart or Rona, and its all because Trump let me know that one of its major shareholders is benefiting from money that is spent there.)
More and more the Radical Left is using Commerce to hurt their “Enemy.” They put out the name of a store, brand or company, and ask their so-called followers
Why is he labeling then "so called" followers?

not to do business there. They don’t care who gets hurt
People don't shop at Home Depot just for the fun of spending money... they do so because they need something. If instead they shop at WalMart or Rona, the money they were going to spend does not disappear... workers still get hired and paid, profits still get earned. Its just a different set of workers and shareholders that benefit.

Somehow, I don't think Trump's concern was for the Home Depot employees.

Darn... Stubby McBonespurs won a court case:

From: https://www.npr.org/2019/07/10/740258653/appeals-court-dismisses-emoluments-lawsuit-against-trump
A constitutional challenge to President Trump's continued ownership of his businesses has been ordered dismissed by a federal appeals court. The case was brought by the attorneys general of Washington, D.C., and Maryland, arguing that Trump had violated the domestic and foreign emoluments emoluments clauses...

The article points out that the judges who made the ruling had been republican appointees.

There is a second court challenge involving the emoluments clause (brought forward by Democratic congress-critters). Hopefully it goes better.

That is kind of interesting because it isn't a blanket ban but subject to congressional approval, so is ignorance and ignoring it approval or not?

I kind of expect the courts to take the view that sure it is against the constitution but it is up to congress to take action in the case of the president, so it would be great grounds for impeachment if that could actually be done.

And a Trump court loss...

From: https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/09/politics/twitter-trump-appeals-court/index.html
The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a New York judge's ruling and found that Trump "engaged in unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination by utilizing Twitter's 'blocking' function to limit certain users' access to his social media account...

I'll be curious to see if the Trump administration tries to appeal this to the supreme court.

The ambassador said it is no longer possible for him to act in the role as is required. Trump has made it untenable.

One of his reasons was the apparent lack of support from Boris.
Today Boris says he has the 'utmost respect' for the ambassador. Pity he didn't have it last night.

Word just out that I won a big part of the Deep State and Democrat induced Witch Hunt. Unanimous decision in my favor from The United States Court of Appeals For The Fourth Circuit on the ridiculous Emoluments Case. I don’t make money, but lose a fortune for the honor of.....

....serving and doing a great job as your President (including accepting Zero salary!).

In other 45 news, the Federal Court of Appeal dismissed Maryland and D.C.'s emoluments case on the grounds that the State and the District are unable to clearly demonstrate the monies spent by foreign nations at these hotels, and Trump continuing to obtain incomes over and above his salary save those permitted by Congress are solely due to POTUS' and not potentially due to other attractions that they cannot allow the matters to proceed. Oh, and the lack of enforcement mechanism for these clauses of the CONUS also meant that the court can do nothing.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...s-business-emoluments-maryland-dc/1692486001/

In short, the emoluments clause has no teeth, the court won't enforce it anyway and should Saudi Arabia declare 45 a Prince of the Realm and he accepts, there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

Interesting.

1) As I said, my ex-wife would write in “human” under race, since none of the listed options seemed to apply. If charged with a crime - highly unlikely - it seems easily defensible.

2) Could not one refuse to answer, giving Fifth Amendment protections against self-incrimination as justification for said refusal?

I had to answer one of those early long form censuses they sent out. It was mandatory. The website said if I didn't answer online, they would send me a hard copy. They did. The website said if I still didn't answer they would send someone out to help me. I didn't get the form done and they sent a guy out. I wrote in 'human' under race. He argued with me. I told him I wasn't going to write something untrue and there were no human races, only one race. I told him he could change it but I wasn't going to. That's how it ended.

Everyone should answer "mixed".

Sure. But what are the acceptable responses? Just yes/no? (Surely not “yes” equals “no”). “Maybe”?? “Depends”??

ETA. What if everyone says yes? Including illegals. Apart from skewing the totals, is anyone going to try to confirm the truth or otherwise of any form?
An undocumented person would likely fear consequences if they lied on the Census.
