The Trump Presidency 14

The only statistic that matters is 53% of the Senate won't.
The impeachment is the only effective way to get any more info out. It makes no difference that 53% will not impeach, because if he gets re-elected, 53% still will not impeach him. The process will only have some impact in the first term, affecting the 2020 election. The impeachment itself will NOT be the major factor that got him re-elected. The base is unaffected by any of this and the republicans will not be able to bring themselves to vote for Bíden.

I think some more moderate GOP will, but it's the Independents that need to get behind the Dem nominee. Trump's base is a lost cause.

The independents are a different problem. They have to show interest, to show up. They tend to lose interest when there is an incumbent. They like to have two fresh new faces, whatever they are like.

Peggy Noonan, the simplistic writer for Trump Haters all, is stuck in the past glory of Reagan and has no idea what is happening with the Radical Left Democrats, or how vicious and desperate they are. Mueller had to correct his ridiculous statement, Peggy never understood it!

Mexico is sending a big delegation to talk about the Border. Problem is, they’ve been “talking” for 25 years. We want action, not talk. They could solve the Border Crisis in one day if they so desired. Otherwise, our companies and jobs are coming back to the USA!

Mexico can't "shut it down" when the U.S. is such a huge magnet for illegal drugs, cheap and exploitable illegal labor and cheap imported goods (and food). All of our off-season produce comes from elsewhere as does all of our chocolate, most of our coffee and many other foodstuffs (but not cereal crops; we're great at cereal crops and dairy).

Companies moved labor abroad because it was cheaper. Those industries that can't be totally outsourced (hospitality and agriculture) rely heavily on cheap imported labor. Of course Trump knows this better than anyone. I hope it's simple enough for others to put together two facts: Consumer goods are (were) cheap and nothing seems to be made in the U.S. anymore. (I know this is not true; I'm just going by the labels in clothing, appliances and on produce).

Trump fighting free market forces with heavy taxation. Brilliant. Such a conservative!

ETA: Not really sure just how free those market forces really are. Many artificial manipulations are in place. Legalize drugs and put cartels out of business. Easy-peasey. Some folks must like it this way. Changed a few other things.

Not Trump. Complete and related thoughts in sentences, complex grammar, correct spelling.

The dynamics of international trade are complex. Example: Trump's trade policies have focused on China, slapping tariffs on billions of dollars in imports.
American companies have responded by moving production and supply chains out of China, in some cases to Mexico, which so far this year has displaced China as the United States’ top trading partner...“Mexico was the place that people were looking to move to,” said Joseph Fitzgerald, a partner in Deloitte’s supply-chain practice. news link

Not only didn't Trump expect his get-tough-with-China trade strategy would help Mexico (!) now Trump is threatening big tariff increases on Mexico.
In the short term, the tariffs would mean lower profits for American importers and higher prices for American consumers on everything from avocados to Volkswagens. In the long run, they could force companies to reconsider the continent-spanning supply chains that have made North America one of the world’s most interconnected economies. That disruption, experts warn, could be far more damaging to the United States economy than the cost of tariffs themselves.

This is what always scared me about Donnie in The White House.
  • When they told him his USFL football league was doing nicely in the Spring but was in no way ready to go head-to-head with the NFL in the Fall, Donnie ignored it. The league folded.
  • When they told him spending millions to upgrade his Trump Shuttle airplanes was a mistake, they were essentially commuter trains with wings -- low fares and frequent service was the way to go -- he ignored it. The airline crashed.
  • When they told him he needed to market for low end players in Atlantic City, not high rollers, that he was overbuilding, the market wasn't there, he ignored it. The casinos failed and he lost everything

When they told him his trade policies were self-destructive, that the tariffs would ultimately hurt the American economy more than any other nation's, he ignored it.

Anyone see a pattern? :(

Hearing word that Russia, Syria and, to a lesser extent, Iran, are bombing the hell out of Idlib Province in Syria, and indiscriminately killing many innocent civilians. The World is watching this butchery. What is the purpose, what will it get you? STOP!

Companies are not going to spend billions to move manufacturing back to the US when they know Trump could well be out of office in less than two years and everything he's done would be reversed. Does Trump think his policies are going to be permanent?

Trump's mantra is "We'll see what happens." He just does whatever he wants, says whatever he wants, takes credit for things that succeed, and ignores or lies about the rest.

Trump doesn't even understand his presidency isn't going to be permanent.

In this case they do. The trump obstruction is preventing any other approach. He is also disregarding all subpoenas. Also, the Senate will not act if it is not impeachment. A revealing vote will show what our politicians are like, once all the facts are out.

People are using the term, impeachment, differently.

Also Trump can disregard some subpoenas but there is plenty he cannot hold back. Start there, move to the other stuff later.

Remember, both Cohen and Flynn turned on Trump. There are plenty of people that could be called as witnesses.

...at this point in time. Are you claiming to predict the future?

Separate note: On the scale of things the Meghan flap doesn't even register at the trivial level. Seriously people.
