Pretty sure you misspoke here, right?
Yes. Doh. They're not supposed to preach about politics. For whatever reason, the IRS saw fit to issue this bulletin on July 30, 2018:
IRS Reminds Charities and Churches of Political Activity Ban
Ordinarily I would not think twice about a preacher praying for a U.S. president. It's pablum, white noise, wallpaper; par for the sanctimonious course. But the allusion to Trump's "enemies" galls me, because we all know who Trump's enemies are: Robert Mueller, ALL Democrats, ALL media except a handful of Fox News "personalities," pretty much all of
Europe; Canada and Mexico, depending on his mood. A roll call of talented (if Republican) people who have left government and/or politics rather than being associated any longer with Trump's appalling administration. Meanwhile Trump counts as besties Kim, Putin, Xi, Duterte, Erdogan, Mohammed bin Salman and every tinhorn wanna-be fascist despot emboldened by the U.S. president's hard pivot away from free markets and free expression in the direction of protectionist, authoritarian idol-worship.
People may actually have been
executed due to Trump's hard Hanoi flounce. I hope that if confirmed, that gives him pause, but who am I fooling. He is not equipped to understand the gravity of the situation.
Some of his Christian enablers might have a clue, but that religion has its own Looney Tunes contingent expecting to be raptured at any moment so bring on the Middle East conflagration. They're saved, so **** everyone else. I just have to remind myself that there are also Christians who aren't totally bat-crap crazy with a more moderate, inclusive message.
