Today's Mass Shooting

Why bother even discussing the latest mass shooting? We'll hear the usual platitudes about 'hopes and prayers'. We'll hear the usual from both sides regarding gun control. But nothing, absolutely nothing, will be done about it. Unlike other countries, like New Zealand, we do not learn. We really are the stupidest country on Earth.

Remind me again the population difference between new Zealand and the U.S. ?

Also little early to claim anything done there has stopped future violent incidents, no?

It's kinda like a guy punching his wife. He says afterward " I'm gonna find Jesus. " reads 2 pages of the bible, and declares it a win for the church because he didn't hit her the rest of the day.

New Zealand did not learn from Australia after Port Arthur, or itself after Aramoana.
However better late than never.
Never looks the go for America.

That is a bit utter ****

No amount of buy back with Labours way underfunded budget cash is going to stop someone who isn't even a NZer getting their hands on lethal weapons or simply driving a truck at speed down the middle of the next graduation parade or down a Lambton Quay footpath at rush hour

And just for emphasis the budgeted money is a joke.

I'm not sure about that. It is claimed Tarrant could never have killed 50 in Australia with legally procured weapons, yet he did in New Zealand.
This is because the Port Arthur massacre had critical mass for the population, 34 dead, that the political will was respected by most of the people, and the same thing happened here 25 years later. Those are facts without debating the merits of the buy back for farmers and so on.

The point is Tarrant did the crime because the guns were legal and thus easy to procure.

True I suppose

But the govt have budgeted 168 million to get rid of them and I have heard they decided all guns they are buying are measured at a depreciation rate at something like 10% a year (think it might be higher).

The experts say it would be at least 1 billion

So any guns over about 7 or 8 years get diddly squat.

a) It will end up 10 x that to do it

b) A lot of older ones will not be handed in.

Please, take this somewhere else. This is not about NZ gun control.

As stacyhs pointed out America can learn from progress in New Zealand gun control to help prevent tomorrow's mass shooting.
And I pointed out that New Zealand learned from your country.

This thread is not limited to America either.

Must suck to live in the stupidest country on Earth. If I lived there I'd surely leave. I hear Venezuela is really smart! You should check it out, like totally.

Actually an even better point

It is a workplace shooting. Going postal has not been as common as students shooting in schools and colleges. I wonder if this will copy cat some more workplace shootings?

I think a strong change point would be if actual pictures of the victims were shown, especially to the politicians and the guy at the top. I don't doubt that it is nearing the point where some families would allow, or insist on, this. Perhaps think of it as the Emmett Till Effect.

It is obvious The PDJT doesn't read a thing, and only reacts to something if it's on TV. (Note that he said virtually nothing about Mueller until he had his TV press conference, saying nothing that wasn't in the report.)
