I NEVER trusted that infrastructure agreement that Trump made with the Democrats. This was a non-starter with the Republicans in Congress. I think Trump knew that after he left that meeting a few weeks ago. And so this was Trump's way to walk it back.
 
The "He never really never wanted to be elected, just to publicise his real estate projects" thesis is interesting, but I think that might have been his original idea, but being on the campaign trial intoxicated him and he geuninley wanted to be elected by the final stages of the campaign.

I first read it in one of the books about Trump that came out in the last year or so. Fire and Fury, maybe?

Personally, I honestly don't think it sunk in that it was even a possibility until after the election. He had absolutely nothing prepared for winning. As late as October 20, 2016, he was still pushing the idea of Trump TV for when he lost.

It’s simple. The reason why Trump loves to talk about impeachment, and why he blathers on about it more than most Dems, including Pelosi and all his 2020 opponents combined, is that it concerns what matters to him most, more than his job, and more than the country—himself.

Congratulations. All Trump needed was for McConnell to invoke the nuclear option to get the supreme court justices through... which of course means it will be a lot easier for the Democrats if/when they end up with control of the white house and congress.

Ignoring for the moment that President Trump says an awful lot of things, many or most of which never come to pass, but wasn't the issue that Huawei presented a security risk and therefore had to be placed on that list.



If they really do present a security risk then taking them off that list because you've got a marginally better trade deal with China doesn't sound like a sensible thing to do - China will be even more annoyed with the US and hence more likely to exploit those security risks. If it's all just a clumsy shakedown prior to resuming the trade talks, tipping your hand this early in the process sounds like a pretty dumb idea to me.

Here's something to think about.

Since the start of his tenure, the stock market (DOW) has gone up 28%. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it... just over 2 years, double digit growth per year on average.

On the other hand, at this point in his presidency, Obama had seen the stock market go up by 57%.

Clinton had seen the stock market go up by 35%.

This is how I judge people...

Trump, I’m pretty confident I could bankrupt him at poker.

Obama would be more of a challenge.

I wouldn’t even sit down with Clinton.

The Bushes...I think we’d have a fun game, going back and forth.
