The Trump Presidency 14

Funny, when Clinton and Nixon were being investigated and during impeachment hearings, both managed to get things done. Both worked with other party to pass important pieces of legislation. Trump continues to do little.

Coincidence, or have you been watching Rachel Maddow yesterday? :)

It was inevitable. But it could have in a much more benign form.

This is pretty benign, when you think about it. A social-media savvy demagogue with totalitarian ambitions would have been a real nightmare. Instead we got a half-assed real estate magnate doing jackass grandpa tweets while he sits out his term. It probably doesn't get much better than that, in this particular scenario.

I did. But I knew that before watching the show. I read Clinton's memoirs.

Clinton ran a very disciplined White House. And he was great at compartmentalization. Newt Gingrich bad mouthed Clinton constantly in public and yet the two talked on the phone almost daily.

Nixon was a cretin, yet he was smart, disciplined and understood how to do business in politics.

For all the reasons, I did not like Nixon, I still have to tip my cap to him on many pieces of important legislation passed during his administration.

Except his wall, Trump Tower Moscow, Trump TV, and immunity from investigation. He's about to lose his battle to keep his finances secret, too.

Trump's been "about to lose any second now we mean it" since the Primaries. Those checks are bouncing.

"Trump's gonna lose" is worth squat at this point. It's been said too many times.

Trump has crossed the Rubicon so many times he has frequent flyers miles.

If Tillerson is dumb, that does not say much about Trump's judgment when it comes to hiring people, does it?

It's funny how unimaginative Trump is . He's the Pee Wee Herman of politics with his "I know you are, but what am I act". Tillerson called Trump stupid long ago. So of course Trump has to say the same thing about Tillerson.

Trump Tweets

I was extremely calm yesterday with my meeting with Pelosi and Schumer, knowing that they would say I was raging, which they always do, along with their partner, the Fake News Media. Well, so many stories about the meeting use the Rage narrative anyway - Fake & Corrupt Press!

Congratulations to Prime Minister @NarendraModi and his BJP party on their BIG election victory! Great things are in store for the US-India partnership with the return of PM Modi at the helm. I look forward to continuing our important work together!

But he's not just "sitting out his term".

Granted, he hasn't had much in the way of legislative success (other than the deficit-busting tax cuts) , but he's: started a trade war, had Drunky McRapeface nominated for the supreme court, had the government shut down, pissed off various U.S. allies, brought in a travel ban that will be ineffective in stopping terrorism but will probably end up harming Americans, had multiple security breaches (such as reveling intelligence to a Russian news crew), etc.

All that harms the U.S.
It probably doesn't get much better than that, in this particular scenario.
What, because he's an incompetent buffoon who causes damage we should be happy that he's not a competent mastermind who causes damage?

Prestige, do you agree with Trump that he has kept more promises than he has made?

How about this:

You actually cite, with real references, the exact quote you're referring to...

... And then I'll tell you straight up about how few ***** I give about whatever rando twitter babbling or off the cuff brain fart you thought was so important to call me out on.

- Say that a group of neo-nazis contains "fine people". He already had the racist vote... but his response to the Charlottesville rally really put the spotlight on Trump's racism.

- Hire some rather incompetent people for his cabinet, which he then has to distance himself from when problems occur

- Start a trade war

Here's some more stoopid:

- Believing he's the best negotiator and can successfully negotiate with North Korea where every other previous president for the past several decades has failed... but The Donald is special.

- Assuming Kim Jong Un is his BFF.

- Assuming Putin is his BFF.

- Promising americans he'll bring the country back to its mid-century glory days of manufacturing.

- Beautiful clean coal... and how he's going to reignite the coal mining industry.

- Thinking he can lie about paying off his magazine-spanking porn toy and nobody will find out.

- Lying 10,111 times (and counting) and thinking nobody will notice and/or debunk them.

- Hiring nothing but the best people. People like "Sloppy Steve", "Wacky Omarosa", "Moderate Dog Mattis", "Mr Magoo Sessions", "Dumb-As-A-Rock Tillerson", "Dumbo Alles", "Mr Peepers Rosenstein"

- Fixing healthcare is easy.

- Building a 3000 km wall metal slat barrier fence is easy.

- Trade wars are easy and the 'other guy' pays the tariffs.

You're right... a lot of people (including myself) have expected Trump's downfall when he's managed to stumble through his problems.

But, sometimes people do have their downfall... Manafort scammed the system for decades, and is in a prison cell. Maddoff earned millions through financial fraud, and he too is in jail.

Things are getting worse for Trump... the republicans lost control of the house, he's losing court cases to keep his financial dealings private. Its certainly possible that there will be a tipping point where his luck runs out and he can no longer scam the system effectively. (I recognize that impeachment is probably a non-starter, since the republicans in the senate will protect Trump. But an election loss in 2020, and a prison term after he's out of office is not out of the realm of possibility.)

I see no need for chemicals.

What (Representative) Eddie has outlined is what SHOULD happen to people who blatantly flout the Law. Congress should have the power to arrest people who ignore a subpeona to testify, and/or refuse to hand over documents that they are either required to by law to hand over, or who are subject to an order by a Federal Judge to hand over.

IMO, Congress should have its own Law Enforcement Staff; sworn officers entirely independent of the DoJ, who report directly to the Judiciary Committees, solely for the purpose of enforcing Congressional instructions. In a situation where orders from the two Judiciary committee might clash, an order to enforce a law and/or a subpoena can be made by either committee, and the other committee cannot overrule it.

Mnuchin, Rettig, Barr and McGahan should all be behind bars right now.

Agreed, but I think you left one name off that list.
