That is one of the reasons why many people are angry.

And the other side are equally angry because the people in charge continue to lie about what this will all actually involve.

Indeed they continue to lie about what was being put forward as "Brexit" 3 years ago, because "no deal" was most definitely not it, and indeed was classed as part of Project Fear.

The close result should not have led May to push for a harder Brexit, with all her red lines. But then this was never about the country...

I distinctly remember EEA membership being explicitly mentioned by a number of prominent Brexiteers.

Then again, I suspect that they thought (and maybe still think) that continued EEA membership would be possible without recognising the four freedoms, abiding by EU rules, contributing to EU budgets and being subject to EU court rulings.

It seems that keeping the red lines is more important than the nature of the post-Brexit relationship with the EU but then as has been pointed out by other posters, for many Brexiteers the key was getting the UK out of the EU and its sphere of influence and tethering us firmly to the US instead.

Well I'm off to vote at lunchtime at the local village hall.....

.....and then across the road to the pub for lunch. :)

I envy you.

The UK has a much better pub culture than the Netherlands. So does Germany.

On the plus side: I've managed to live to 48 without getting fat.

Reports doing the rounds on Twitter of people being denied the vote - especially EU citizens saying that their paperwork hasn't been processed on time. Suspicious to say the least.

Then again rank incompetence has been a hallmark of the entire Brexit process.

Why would a rushed set of Euro-elections be any different ?

And now May is apparently doing a u-turn on her WAB promises, trying to quell the open rebellion in the cabinet. It won't be released tomorrow as promised, and it is not on the House business motion for the week it was to be voted on, with the House not even sitting on the Friday it was tentatively scheduled for (IIRC the House returns from Whitsunday recess on the Tuesday, the Trump state visit is on the Tuesday & Wednesday, and the Peterborough by-election is on the Thursday, so Friday was seen as the only available date in which it would be proper to debate and vote on the WAB).

In a polling station somewhere in the UK during this momentous day...we've had a gobby 34 year old chavette come in and announce to us all that she was voting for the first time ever. For the Farage party.

Ugh.

When will the results be announced? Tonight or Sunday?

As I understand it, they won't even start the counting process until the last polling place has closed across the EU.

I have officially given up...

Spoke yesterday to a very intelligent and decent colleague who was an avid remainer and now intended to 'vote Farage' because:

a) He's sick of the whole shambles and just wants it over with - 'We lost, let them have what they want'.

b) Apparently it'll be really funny to send a load of Brexiteers to the European Parliament.

:boggled:

Oh god I had forgotten about that, just when you thought things couldn't get any more stupid...

I have doubts about your judgment of the guy.

In light of the most recent poll (YouGov 19-21 May), here are my expectations for the seat allocations (in Remain to Hard Leave order):

Lib-Dems | 13
Green | 12
SNP | 2
Plaid Cymru | 2
Change UK | 6
Sinn Fein | 1
Labour | 10
Conservative | 7
DUP | 1
Brexit Ltd. | 14
UKIP | 5

Overall this would give the openly pro-Remain parties 36 seats, the No Dealers 20, leaving Labour and the Conservatives with the other 17.

The only Regions we can say for definite are:

LONDON |
Lib-Dems | 2 (Seats 2 & 6)
Green | 2 (Seats 4 & 8)
Labour | 2 (Seats 3 & 7)
Brexit Ltd. | 2 (Seats 1 & 5)

The second Green seat (#8) is on a knife-edge, with a sole Conservative seat being the alternative. Change UK and Lib-Dems would tie for a tenth place.

SCOTLAND |
SNP | 1 (Seats 1 & 3)
Lib-Dems | 1 (Seat 4)
Green | 1 (Seat 6)
Brexit Ltd. | 2 (Seats 2 & 5)

Both Labour and the Conservatives are a tie for seventh place, with the SNP on ninth. If the SNP did mange to take a third seat, it would be at the expense of the Greens.
