Pope wades into ID debate

Like a science fair project? I hope not. From the looks of things, I'm not sure God's teacher would pass him.

Atheism...inside...so...heavy!

And so, when do I get to dismiss this pontiff's comments as "vague and unimportant?"

Um, well, if you go look at many of the letters of Peter to the Romans, Ephesians, etc... you get the impression that reason was deliberately put to sleep, as all were told to ignore anyone who asked questions or chose to try and clarify points of doctrine...and I don't think reason in Biblical terms is waking up any time soon from its dirt-nap.

Paul.

And I think he's often quoted out of context to make him say something he's not. I think I know the passages you mean, and IIRC he's talking about moral values, rather that saying "Please take note: if anyone comes up with a scientific revolution, I'm against it. Oh, and logic is bad too."

That's just what fundies want people to think he was saying.

Oh wow.
He quoted St. Basil the Great, a fourth century saint, as saying some people, "fooled by the atheism that they carry inside of them, imagine a universe free of direction and order, as if at the mercy of chance."

"How many of these people are there today? These people, fooled by atheism, believe and try to demonstrate that it's scientific to think that everything is free of direction and order."
Do his Magical Powers Of Infallibility allow him to excommunicate straw men?
