The Case For Trump

I'm still puzzled why anyone would vote for Trump.
And I have had no luck in find any reason to do so.

Why Do Republicans Still Back Trump? by Scott Jennings

Unencumbered by the pablum that traps most politicians, Trump is a perfect
mirror when he takes the rally stage. The attendees see themselves in him;
they don’t talk or think like politicians, either. And though their lives don’t
permit them to attack those they find aggravating, they can live vicariously
through a president who does it for them. This is especially true for rural folks,
looked down upon as hicks and rubes by the coastal elites for a very long time.
Bless your hearts, we do cling to our guns and religion because they are a deeply
meaningful part of our heritage.

Is Trump a perfect representative of the disrespected rural Republican, who goes
to church on Sunday and worries about what cavalier, liberal attitudes toward life
and marriage mean for the future of their country? No, of course not.

But elections are about choices, and Trump will get the same benefit of the
doubt from evangelicals in 2020. He’s a sinner, they’ll tell themselves, but at
least he respects our pastors, doesn’t make fun of our beliefs and fights for the
babies who can’t defend themselves against Ralph Northam and Andrew Cuomo.
We didn’t hire a barbarian to sing soprano in the choir; we hired him to beat
back the savages.

Hm. The whole thing doesn't translate. Does anyone get this?

Farmers still support him, and their suicide rates and bankruptcies have spiked because of Trump's policies.
Found an interesting article in Forbes:

China is out of the American soy market not because of tariffs, per se. China is out of the market because, in its trade war, it wants to make the farm belt collateral damage. The Chinese are also aware that the American heartland tends to vote Republican.

That's strategic thinking right there. But they might not want to lean on Trump too hard - there must be advantages to them in a Trump presidency. Then again he's already Russia's useful idiot; maybe China would rather have its own.

Do you have a problem with the prose? I found it easy to understand. I don't agree with the writer, but I'm not baffled by his thought processes.

China have used the obvious ploy of reverse psychology, the Briar Patch gambit. They want a certain outcome from the USA. So they tell Trump not to do those actions that they want because China doesn't like it, and lo and behold he goes and does it right on cue.

But it is couched nicely in terms of "trade negotiations" and "diplomacy". They look worried and concerned, make semi-threatening noises, and tick their economy down slightly, when he does exactly what they want him to do. Namely, disadvantage US importers and exporters. They don't degrade things enough to make it an all out trade war. But they do it enough to make Trump think he is "winning". Kudlow has spotted this, obviously.

I suspect what Trump has failed entirely to notice is that the USA is not China's only trading customer. It's a big one, sure. But not the only one. So China's economy is not going to collapse too far should US trade cease entirely (which it won't - it will just be more difficult). They will get some of the volume back with new trades with other countries and trading blocs. The Middle East, Africa and the subcontinent are getting richer all the time. And there's always the EU. The USA, meanwhile, is losing its major partner and will be harder hit.

"Because it's funny."
"I like his family."
"I like him, but I refuse to discuss why."

That was the kind of response that I generally got from Trump supporters around the 2016 election time.

What about it isn't fairly clear? 1. Trump plays to the crowd, focusing on the things that get him the most cheers and praise at his rallies and doing them more (mirror). 2. They're using him for vicarious pleasure as he's mean to people that they wish they could be mean to. 3. They buy into Republican Propaganda. 4. They don't care what he is, so long as he's hurting the people they regard as enemies and undoing what they've wrought.

Good heavens, has no-one yet told him that its not the Chinese who pay the tariffs, but the American consumer?

They've almost certainly told him, and he may even have understood, but he wants to give the impression that he's holding China's feet to the fire and that they're paying for all the bailouts that his tariffs are making necessary. As long as his base, and a sizeable chunk of the rest of GOP supporters believe that China is paying the tariffs, that's all that matters.

It's a culture war, and Trump is their champion.

Thing is though, these rural folks are hicks and rubes, so they can't see that Trump is doing them more harm than good.

It's because they don't want to say what the real reason is. They do not want to say "because I hate brown people too."

Their is no reason for the U.S. Consumer to pay the Tariffs, which take effect on China today. This has been proven recently when only 4 points were paid by the U.S., 21 points by China because China subsidizes product to such a large degree. Also, the Tariffs can be.....

....completely avoided if you by from a non-Tariffed Country, or you buy the product inside the USA (the best idea). That’s Zero Tariffs. Many Tariffed companies will be leaving China for Vietnam and other such countries in Asia. That’s why China wants to make a deal so badly!...

..There will be nobody left in China to do business with. Very bad for China, very good for USA! But China has taken so advantage of the U.S. for so many years, that they are way ahead (Our Presidents did not do the job). Therefore, China should not retaliate-will only get worse!

I say openly to President Xi & all of my many friends in China that China will be hurt very badly if you don’t make a deal because companies will be forced to leave China for other countries. Too expensive to buy in China. You had a great deal, almost completed, & you backed out!

Thank you @foxandfriends, great show this morning and congratulations on your number one (by far) rating. Well deserved!

Also, congratulations to @OANN on the great job you are doing and the big ratings jump (“thank you President Trump”)!

The unexpectedly good first quarter 3.2% GDP was greatly helped by Tariffs from China. Some people just don’t get it!

Has anyone noticed that all the Boston
@RedSox
have done is WIN since coming to the White House! Others also have done very well. The White House visit is becoming the opposite of being on the cover of Sports Illustrated! By the way, the Boston players were GREAT guys!

Good article here about Victor Orban's visit to Trump and the many similarities (and a number of differences) between the GOP and Orban's Fidesz. The Fidesz regime in Hungary is labeled as "soft fascism", and the article describes how the GOP is behaving like Fidesz in many ways. The difference, the article argues, is that while Fidesz are open about wanting to defeat liberal Democracy, the GOP might just do it accidentally in their efforts to remain in Power.

He comes up with incredibly witty insulting names for his rivals.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/tr...tigieg-to-mad-magazine-mascot-alfred-e-neuman

When referring to Pete Buttigieg, President Trump said, “Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States,”

And that right there is why the president earns the title least-self-aware-person-in-the-US. PDJT is Alfred E. Neuman. “What, me worry?”indeed.

As for the folks describing the president as a wit, well, they’re half right.

Joe Biden let China get away with cheating when he was Vice President, and he continues to naively dismiss China today.

China is stealing from American businesses, hurting our workers, and @realDonaldTrump is right to fight back!

Asian Americans are winning with @realDonaldTrump: 2.1% unemployment rate – the lowest in history!
Asian taxpayers received an average tax cut of $2,560.
Awesome news! #APAHM
