$75,000 is a lower bound needed to get into federal court. Perhaps moving it to the federal level was the reason.

Candace Clark, 21, had an April 11 hearing, with Cook County State's Attorney's office prosecuting. Clark was charged with felony disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report.

the prosecutor assigned to the case had filled out paperwork for a “deferred prosecution,” which would have required Clark to pay back approximately $2,500 — as well as attend periodic court hearings, get a G.E.D. and either show proof of a job or do community service, said Wendy Schilling, Clark’s assistant public defender.

That's actually somewhat worrisome, thanks.

As I understand it...Smollett did forfeit his bail payment, and has done community service already. This *may* be the reason for the difference between the two cases, although it sounds like Clarke isn't being threatened with decades in jail, which is what Rahm Emanuel and the CPD were screaming for in Smolett's case. Still, there *is* a difference in what the two are expected to do, and it's definitely worth asking why.

Extending his option for season 6, even without any plans to bring him back, does seem like a pragmatic hedging of bets. If this does blow over, they still have him on tap. If it doesn't, they're not at any greater risk than they are now.
 
Maybe we can finally learn if Jussie made a lie, or if Brutal White MAGA had struck again.

We need some form of closure. To go forwards. With our country. With our lives.
 
If Foxx and smollett are implicated with corruption and ******** will anything come of it? or will Americas legal system just shrug, pay out some compensation if it really really has to and move on with nothing learned? (As usual)

Conventional wisdom says that he is black, so he will be run mercilessly through the grinder with an unholy vengeance. Me, I say he's got some coin and corporate backing and will walk away relatively unscathed. We shall see

The court filings released yesterday are uninteresting.

But the police reports (not yet released) should be interesting. Top Cop said that there is a lot more evidence showing Smollett's guilt than has already been publicly released and leaked.

But then we have already seen plenty enough to know that it was all a hoax planned by him.
