Yes. acbytesla's cognitive dissonance. Which relies not on any moral or even logical evaluation of abortion or euthanasia, but merely an observation of what others believe, and observation which no one has challenged. The justification (or lack thereof) for their beliefs is irrelevant to acbytesla's error.
Huh? Cognitive dissonance? Nonsense. My support of both abortion(woman's choice) and euthanasia (personal choice of the terminally ill to die with dignity) are based on morality. And they are totally logical. Both are based upon personal freedom and well being. Both a woman and someone who is suffering with a terminal illness should have the freedom to do with their body what they determine is best for them.

I also find that it is almost entirely the religious that oppose and believe they have the right to take away personal freedom because they live their lives by superstitious nonsense.

Now granted this has little to do with the thread, but I felt it necessary to address the shot you took at me.

You know the simple fact that people can support abortion, euthanasia, and the death penalty for more then one reason makes all this mental gear grinding go away.

Now, and maybe this is wear a little bit of the disagreement is coming in, individual opinions and social movements are not the same thing. Movements, like it or not, start to take on qualities beyond simply the sum of their parts.

A simple "I oppose abortion" is not, necessarily, anti-woman. The anti-abortion social level movement, absolutely is.

Does this create... hard to unravel moments at times? Yep. Such is life.

That's got nothing to do with what I said. But you made a claim about what other people believe, that the people who oppose abortions would also try to euthanize the poor and elderly. And that's delusional, since abortion opponents are overwhelmingly opposed to euthanasia, and euthanasia proponents are overwhelmingly pro-abortion (as you yourself are). Your cognitive dissonance comes from believing something which runs contrary to all observations, including your own.

And yet history proves they will do it. Just go back to WWII and look at the Nazis.

I'm not sure if "The Nazis did it, therefore it is a universal human law of nature" really holds water.

I really do think some people are getting a little blinded by the "The Nazis, this is how Hitler rose to power" comparisons.

Plenty of people took the same steps Hitler did to raise to power and... you know like didn't try and wipe out an entire ethnic group.

And yet history proves they will do it. Just go back to WWII and look at the Nazis.

History proves they did that once. History does not always repeat itself like some law of nature. Surely you know pro-lifers are generally adamantly against euthanasia? It's a fairly well-known fact.

Tell you what: PM me and I promise I'll respond (though maybe not quickly, I have upcoming travel). I'd just as soon not deal with the inevitable crap other posters will inevitably bring to any abortion thread.

I just want to say that I like how they do it in the UK, where it's free, but after 4 months gestation, medical necessity must be demonstrated, and it's sort of the doctor's call. That strikes me as a very sane way of running a society, and I really wish Americans would get with "adopting best practices from other countries" philosophy.

Americans are hung up on principles, the first of which is "we do our stuff our own way". It's what makes us either a grand experiment or a hot mess, depending on which way our disaster is running that day.

It doesn't. But it often does.

But I'm amazed at how often people are willing to throw out the baby with the bath water. I'm noticing this a lot with Trump supporters.

I worked for a company once that was very much "homegrown" in how they ran things. They had their own software that they had developed over time to run internal systems and their own peculiar procedures for how things were done. If you brought up the fact that you knew a more streamlined way to get something done you were met with "this is the Company Way of doing this." It was very frustrating.

Only one department had any sort of benchmarking with other companies. I asked the head of that department how she managed it and she said she just never asked for permission. Once she was doing it then she could say that "this is the Company Way of doing this." I wanted to work for her department.

And Euthanasia supporters, particularly if they were Jewish or Gypsies

Except you're the one who supports euthanasia, not American abortion opponents. Doesn't that make YOU closer to the Nazis?

Like I said, cognitive dissonance.

Sorry, there IS a difference between choosing for oneself and choosing for others. And I'm not Christian or Catholic which predominately the Nazis were. I also haven't been listening to sermons for centuries that taught that the Jewish people were guilty of deicide. A doctrine that the Catholic Church didn't come out against until the early 60s.

Cognitive dissonance my ass.

Other countries is Soshalizm! Why do you hate America?

The Christian Taliban is not identical to the Nazis. It's a totally different flavor of scary and crazy.

Progressives often don't know this, but eugenics was a big thing in America, too, at the time. And it was...progressives... advocating that scary stuff.
