Barr's Rules of Obstruction:

1.) It can't be obstruction if there is no underlying crime
2.) If there is an underlying crime, see 1.)

Well, he's wrong about that. Doesn't being wrong about such a simple concept make him disqualified for his position?

I think Trump intentionally hires people to do things they don't know how: makes it much more likely that they will do something illegal for him.

Barr has been a lawyer for a long time. I'm sure he's qualified for the position on those grounds. See, for example, how he didn't perjure himself before Congress - his public statement was that he hadn't shown the Mueller report to the White House. When asked about it under oath he refused to answer the question.

I think the more parsimonious explanation is that he knows his obstruction ruling is spurious but either believes that it will successfully prevent Trump's prosecution by nobody being able to override it, or that it will delay it long enough for other factors to come in to play (whether those other factors mean that Trump will be scott-free, or that Barr gets whatever advantage he feels it will bring him is something I won't speculate on".

That's probably true. I just wish some journalist would call him on his obvious lies. Trump's already calling the press the enemies of the people. Time for them to get a bit tougher.

Nixon must be spinning in his grave. All the fuss that hit him over a rumor that his wife had an expensive fur coat...

Incidentally, Barr beginning a probe into the investigation into Trump means one of two things - that the Mueller report reveals that there was absolutely zero malfeasance by Trump and his campaign re. Russia and thus has proven that the only reason to investigate Trump et. al. was political bias, or that Barr is exercising his power in a partisan manner while he knows for a fact that the investigation into Trump was justified.

If we assume that the second part is true (as I believe it is) and that things worked as normal, what would be the consequences if it was found out?

Trump claimed the immigrant child separation was Obama's doing and that Trump stopped it.

Republicans are also apparently attacking Buttigieg as being a fake Christian while ignoring that Trump is an actual fake Christian.

It's just constant projection from them

Hummm... I wonder which way I'll be leaning...

Don’t forget the Republicans saying “we’re trying to save the preexisting conditions clause, it is the Democrats who are trying to remove it.” In fact saying that while their efforts to remove the clause were working through the courts. Saying that despite the absurdity of the Democrats fighting to get it passed and now fighting to get it removed.

I describe it as contempt for the truth.

And what makes them good at it is that they have convinced 10-20% of the population that there is no objective evidence for anything. You can’t rely on a government report showing crime statistics or soybean yields because they are biased against President Trump. You can’t trust domestic or foreign news agencies because they are enemies of the people. A legitimate investigation into the president is labeled a coup.

He literally told an audience don’t believe what you read or hear, believe only me.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You can create a golem to do your bidding and you’ll enjoy a certain success, but in the end the golem always destroys its creator.

Remember, this is the guy who told his supporters to physically assault protestors, and he would pay their legal fees. Not that he would have actually paid. Paying debts is for the little people.

Only a loser would actually get indicted for beating up a protester. Trump likes winners.

According to recent reports, during a visit to Mt. Vernon last year, Trump criticized George Washington for not naming it after himself.

President Donald Trump paid a visit to Mount Vernon last year with French President Emmanuel Macron, and according to new details relayed by associates to Politico, the experience was "truly bizarre."

Mount Vernon president and CEO Doug Bradburn, who led the tour, according to Politico, has told several people that the Macrons were far more knowledgeable about the history of Washington's compound than Trump seemed to be.

On the tour, Trump reportedly learned about the first US president's real estate empire. But three sources briefed on the exchange told Politico that Trump didn't seem too impressed.
"If he was smart, he would've put his name on it," Trump said of Mount Vernon. "You've got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you."

Bradburn reminded Trump that Washington had succeeded in getting the nation's capital named after him. Trump reportedly replied that that was a good point and laughed, according to the publication.

It's not about what you do, it's about getting attention.

He also described the bed in which George Washington died as "a good bed to die in".
