The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

On the other hand, the Democratic message is usually much more rational, but that type of messaging requires a little more coherence behind it. It makes it a bit harder to turn into the type of empty rhetoric that such a personalty cult thrives on. (Its not impossible, just more difficult.)

Nonsense.

"Yes we can" worked fine for Obama.

Trump & the alt-right didn't invent three-syllable slogans.

How dare you criticize AOC, you sexist facist pig?

One thing I hate about what happening to the Dems is they are now forming personality cults, and that is bad bad news.
She was accused of being less than an adult. The responses pointed out the factual efficacy of her tweet.

Your characterization of the reply misses the mark, your presumption of motives is a farce.

Trump: On National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, we honor the Americans captured and imprisoned by foreign powers while carrying out their duties to defend this great Nation...

Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain: No one believes you care about prisoners of war and “people who get captured”.

Is the critical mass of Trumpian insanity close?

Please make it soon.

I'd like to see that police report for the alleged assault

:D

Or it was demonstrating how Trump's response reveals he doesn't understand how our government works.

ETA: as seen in threads lately, revealing factual information doesn't mean you're trying to embarrass someone.

Surely, you aren't denying that AOC's tweet was deliberately taunting. You aren't seriously suggesting that her sole purpose was to reveal information and there was no intention to belittle Trump.

I'm not opposed to belittling Trump in general, mind you, but Congressmen[1] need to exercise restraint. I don't want the Democrats to look as childish as the president.

[1] Sorry, I don't like the gender neutral term. I know AOC is not a man.

That tweet is more educational than most others. She's right, it's not up to him and they didn't ask him. Thankfully someone at least has the balls to shoot back a little snark.

I don't understand how that's not being an adult. Is snark not a thing adults do? Does every Dem have to be the pinnacle of exemplary behavior while being ridiculed and chastised by people on the other side?

I'm getting sick of Dem's eating themselves. I hope AOC keeps it up, I love watching them get a bit of their own medicine from their boogie man.

I'm not a Democrat, though since 2016, I lean farther that way than ever.

I agree Democrats tend to attack their own. But I will certainly criticize childish behavior among Democratic elected officials. It's unseemly and contributes to the problem rather than fixing it.

If I don't criticize the same on the other side, it's only because the most visible Republican Congressmen are, for the most part, beyond any hope of redemption. (Republican Senators tend to have more sense of decorum, though of course McConnell's sins are far worse than obnoxious tweets, for instance.)

Yeah, certainly hasn't worked for the GOP :thumbsup:

Sorry, would you like to emulate the GOP in this respect? I sure as **** wouldn't want the Dems to adopt their "strategy" of giving up any sense of longheld values in order to ride the coattails of a cretin.

Laws can be challenged. This one has never been reviewed, let alone used. I could see an argument that by allowing the government to go on a fishing expedition in his tax returns is a 4th amendment violation. And for the purpose of making it public? I'm not sure how that's going to fly.

It's certainly fair to challenge laws.

Huh? I thought it had been used by the Republicans.

This from the man who referred to Netenyahu as "your prime minister" when addressing Jewish citizens of the US. Clearly, to Trump, Jews cannot be US citizens, only Israeli ones. Something he's picked up from Benjamin "Jews can only live as Jews in Israel" Netenyahu, no doubt.

Ok, maybe it's been used before. But none of those were made public, without consent of taxpayer in question. Hell, not even the names were made public without consent.

Let's not also forget how that all started, too. Legitimate complaints from taxpayers over the delay of the processing of their requests to their congressperson. It was not a Congressman, deciding he doesn't like the hubris of the President, to go on a fishing expedition.

The example is not on point.

Does Nov 2020 count as soon? When he loses the election he and his blissed-out acolytes are going to go freakin' ape-doodle, just you watch.

I'm predicting a surge in heart attacks that week.

eta: and if it goes the other way, a surge in antidepressant prescriptions. Either way, healthcare will profit.

None of the other POTUSes tried to hide their tax records. How can you possibly argue Trump's refusal to disclose his tax reports is some special privilege?

My point was actually that the responses in this thread were other than what was characterized.

There's a rather absurd false equivalence.

I just read an interesting article about how Democrats can easily obtain Trump's tax records if the IRS et al refuses to produce them. Basically, bypass the Feds and get them from New York State. I'm sure they'll be more friendly. Read the article....interesting.
