The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

If someone says they will do something, that is a promise. That is the ******* definition of the the word.

This is an example of the games they play on the right. Unless Trump writes his promises on paper and in blood they aren't really promises. And if you look at Trump's business practices, often not even then.

My father use to teach me that a man's word is his bond. A good man doesn't need to shake hands or sign a contract, he just has to tell you. If your word is good, you dont need those other things. If your word isn't, those other things might not make a difference any way.

Trump is the living embodiment of that last sentence. He is the least trustworthy person, I've ever seen.

I do solemnly swear...
Nope, try again, didn't say promise

... in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part
Probably a philanderer.

I pledge allegiance...
Hello Benedict Arnold.

Remember the days when “a man’s word is his honor” seemed to be at the heart of American conservative values? You would see TV sitcom fathers having earnest discussions with their children after getting caught out telling even inconsequential lies.

In the post-values world of Trump’s America even the facade of virtue has been torn down.

Trump has no honor so his word means nothing. He is the most dishonorable, slimy toad that has ever sat in the Oval Office. And that's saying something.

Thankfully, no President from the Democratic Party ever argued what simple words mean.

What does "is" mean again?

Checks in.... fake news lied and said Trump promised something... cite examples where he does not use the word promise.

rather than acknowledge that simple, indisputable fact, people actual use all caps bold large font to deny actual obvious facts.

Actually it is spot on: What is happening here is people are claiming that although what I am saying is absolutely correct, they are going to claim it is wrong anyway.

Oh well,

This is fascinating. Is that example supposed to help you? Because i am absolutely certain that everyone reading it sees how unbelievably unreasonable that is.

Citadel; Bed check is at 2330
cadet; in bed at 2330
Citaedel; you were not present at bed check at 2300
cadet: Bed check was 2330.
Citadel; Expelled
Skeptics; **** citadel

Are we to understand that you are not "correct" or "certain" because "absolutely" has no meaning? It seems that when going with the flow of your thoughts you do understand what the word means. What you are saying is that you are emphatically correct/certain. When used as a response to a question.... "Are you still coming to dinner, Sunday? >>> Absolutely!" it's a commitment. A commitment is a pledge is a promise.

You know all this. His constant iteration to the effect that he would "happily" or "absolutely" produce his tax returns is, in effect, a promise. Stop playing games.

The Big Scorpion.

Your president does just fine without bold large font to deny actual obvious facts.

Trump repeatedly told his followers that he kept more promises than he made.

I would like someone to explain to me how that is possible.

The fact is that the word "promise" means nothing to Trump - it's bait for the gullible, nothing more.

So here's a summary of the last few pages of comments:

Trump: I'm gonna do great stuff! I'm gonna fix stuff! I will do wonderful things and fix everything! MAGA! Promises made, promises kept!

Trumpistas: YAY! MAGA! MAGA!

Crowd: *waits for stuff*

...time passes. No stuff.

Crowd: OK, so where's the stuff you promised? How about the stuff you said you would do?

Trumpistas: He never officially "promised" anything...
