The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

Unless you define sound as both the perception of these shockwaves and the waves themselves.

Seems like a sloppy definition if you're examining the phenomenon with regards to deciding how it works. For all other contexts, sure. 'Walking' is simply defined in most contexts as well, but gets very specific and nuanced in physical therapy and orthopedic surgery contexts.

It is odd how the leftist liars claim he promised to do something

All deliberately use the word promise, that lie has been repeated here, pointing out that it is a lie now becomes a quibble.

Folk the leftists are gaslighting you.

Well I wasn't objecting to your definition, really. Just pointing out that in most contexts we don't distinguish the two, which is why the question about the tree making a sound is usually absurd.

I'm sick of "gaslighting." I don't at what point we all agreed that somebody pointing out you are wrong or disagreeing with you is somehow a form of psychological warfare, but it's getting old.

This continues to be your very idiosyncratic view of the meaning of the word promise. A pledge or guarantee of future action doesn't have to include that word to constitute a promise.

I can't hear you over the roar of falling trees. It's a sapbath, leaves everywhere, the carnage is monstrous. I'd close my eyes but, since I'm the only witness, doing so would remove all color from the forest.

It's Monday morning, primetime for absurdity.

That is just it! No one is pointing out that I am wrong, no one is disagreeing with me regarding the facts, yet people are suggesting that the facts don't matter and using the word promise is absolutely fine even though he never made such a promise.

The Fake Press used the word promise because it is a loaded term with significance particularly in a campaign.

Perfect example of gaslighting

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: Has Governor Romney been boxed on this tax return thing, and if he called you up tonight and said, Donald, ‘What should I do about tax return thing, should I release them or not?’
TRUMP: I think first answer would have been good. It should have been delivered a certain way. But April 1st historically is the time that everybody gives them.

May 2014: Trump says that if he runs for office, he will “absolutely” release his tax returns, in an interview with Ireland’s TV3.

MATT LAUER: Real quickly. When are you going to release your tax returns?
TRUMP: Probably over the next few months. They’re being worked on now. Link

On and on and on. Everybody gives them, absolutely, being worked on. But! He never seems to have used the word promise.

Yes, there's some gaslighting going on but I think we all know who The Big Gaslighter is. ;)

Yes, and you're apparently the only one who thinks that a promise only ever includes the word "promise".

Heh. Just reminded me of Mrs Summers, my fifth grade teacher. She thought the word 'swear' was itself a 'swear word' and punished anyone who used it.

He didn't make a pledge, promise or guarantee.

I find it amazing that rather than actually quoting it, people insist on characterizing his words as something that they were not.

That is right, he did not, so don't use that word.

This is not difficult folks.

MOVING ON!

Devin Nunes is trying to act the tough guy by dragging up stuff from January 2017. Clearly this is an attempt to create a furor of RIGHTeousness by emulating the Mueller enquiry but against some shadowy "enemies". Problem is, we all know who the leakers were: Donald Trump and his team of newly-installed loudmouth japesters. Same people who can't keep their mouths shut around the office as now. So it would be amusing if Nunes was to hook his own ass on this fishing expedition.

ETA: Malcolm Turnbull was the Australian PM that week.

It's old news, but I'm not opposed to investigating who leaked the details of this phone call. It was a prima facie violation of duty. If the leaker wants to defend his action on the basis that it was for the good of the nation or somehow consistent with his oath to uphold the Constitution, then that can play out, of course.

"Deep state" actor[1] or Trump appointee? I don't know much about the workings of the White House, but I'd think that persons in the room of a phone call like that would most likely be appointees. I sure could be wrong.

[1] By which I mean a career bureaucrat. I do not take seriously the notion of a deep state conspiracy of course.

That is just it! No one is pointing out that I am wrong

Everybody is telling you that you're wrong. You're just not listening because you're not interested in discussion. You think you're playing a game where it's possible to 'win'.

I will definitely, absolutely, assuredly give you a million dollars tomorrow.

There, I never promised you anything. Who do you think you're fooling?

  • The Big Boss: You're late again. You promised me you'd be on time today!
  • Mooch: Nope.
  • The Big Boss: What? You sat right there Friday and promised you'd wouldn't be late again. You GUARANTEED IT!
  • Mooch: Right. Right, I guaranteed it. That's not saying I promise.
  • The Big Boss: You're fired.

TBD is basically doing the adult version of the word games children engage in, when they're starting to understand how language works but aren't yet sharp enough to predict that the adults aren't going to be fooled.

What happens if it turns out the call details were 'leaked' by the prime ministers who received the calls? Will Trump declare punitive tariffs? I don't know how effective a wall between the US and Australia would be. It would be geographically tricky.

He didn't use the word guarantee

Child: can we go to Disney World?
Adult: I would love to go, so we'll see....
Child: when are we going to Disney World?
Adult: we are not, I have to stay at the office because of an emergency
Child: You "promised" you "guaranteed" it! Runs off wailing in tears.
Adult: Grow up
