Cohen says the RNC took illegal donations from foreign nationals, including China, and he has the receipts.

If this is true, Cohen might be about to explain the GOP’s subservience to Trump.

Anyways, here's a slightly different topic to have fun with. What are the things that Trump has done or caused that you all are happy about?

I like this guy's list as a good place to start.

1. Trump created a new generation of Democratic Socialists.
2. The Democrats finally kicked their obsession with perfection.
3. Trump destroyed the careers of people I hate.
4. At long last, Trump killed the evangelical influence on our politics.
5. Trump destroyed the Bush legacy.
6. Trump shattered our complacency.
7. Democrats learned how to fight. Hard.
8. The GOP is now the party of Trump, and it’s going down with him.

Some of the leaders, at least. And... Yeah. This would be pretty much par for the course, so it's not really hard to believe in the least.

He's backing it up with, for example, this. I would agree with you that it's definitely too soon to say it's actually been killed yet, though.

Incidentally... hey, look over there, Trump supporters showing off their version of civility!

the drop in Evangelicals total numbers is completely independent from Trump - it's been going on for decades.
But under Trump, they have massively disproportionate influence, including getting two Supreme Court Judges they like, and countless Federal Judges.
There might be fewer and fewer evangelicals, but they all sit at the wheels of power now.

Hell, there's one living at Number One Observatory Circle.

<snip>

I like the fact that Captain Swoop post Trumps tweets, because he really tends to only post thea really, really stupid ones.

I think he's actually posting all of them.

Isn't that much the same thing.

Actually, having taken the occasional peek at Trump's Twitter account, I can say that there are many more twits, not all his, and scanning through them to pick out the turds with the most corn is a dismaying task. I'm quite content that someone else is is willing to take on the distasteful chore.

Thank you, Captain Swoop.

For now, at least. May this be their dying gambit, as they've given more than ample ammunition to use against them. Trump helping to reveal how empty their claims are is likely accelerating things along.

I have a button from the early days of Reagan's 1980 campaign. It reads;

The Moral Majority Are Neither.

It's hanging from my car mirror, even more true today than it was four decades ago.

Hi new member nmgaucho. Welcome to the forum.

A link to the source of this information would be nice. :)

No, this list has many issues.

Whoever "this guy" is he should stop posting about Democrats unless he qualifies it as his opinion. Because this isn't close to a list of facts.

And re the Evangelical influence, have you totally missed the federal court stacking?

How about I make a list of how ignorant and crappy Republicans are? It shouldn't be that hard. Maybe it would make you think about how rude your list is.

Indeed. I like it as a set of snarky answers, though.

If you read the link, the reasoning involved for each is quite explained. Yes, it's obviously his opinion, regardless of how much he invokes facts to help back up much of it.

And re the Evangelical influence, have you totally missed the federal court stacking?

Here's what's actually said for 4, in full, since multiple people are taking issue towards it without taking a look at what was said. A couple links, such as what I pointed at earlier, are embedded, though, and I'm too lazy to re embed them here.

4. At long last, Trump killed the evangelical influence on our politics. Godless men like Jerry Falwell saw Christians as susceptible to manipulation into rightwing politics, and kept them in line with hatred, xenophobia, and fear. Suddenly, rightwing virtues were filtered into evangelical faith: helping the rich was brought in under the guise of the phony “prosperity gospel”. Being good stewards for the environment was called “nature-worship”, so it was now Christian to promote Big Oil and polluters. Racism and misogyny replaced “love thy neighbor.” It was always a terrible, cynical movement.

Thankfully, it has been on the decline for decades; and no one has done more damage to this once powerful political coalition than the man the evangelicals put on their highest pedestal. The man they went all in for has repeatedly committed every single one of the seven deadly sins. For 2016, they had a plethora of Bible-thumping candidates to choose from, and rejected all of them for the charity-swindling, poor-bashing, disabled-mocking, woman-assaulting, daughter-lusting, foul-mouthed serial adulterer. Finally, evangelical republicans have had their hypocrisy completely exposed.

For Trump and his minions, there was nothing that Franklin Graham or Jerry Falwell Jr. wouldn’t justify. Nothing. Not even attempted rape. Not even molesting children. The powerful coalition that their fathers built has now been dismantled. This new generation utterly rejects them.

Never again will we need to listen to their high-horse platitudes. Any phony lecture on virtue can now be legitimately met with, “Didn’t you worship Satan”? It’s over.

How about I make a list of how ignorant and crappy Republicans are? It shouldn't be that hard. Maybe it would make you think about how rude your list is.

Hmm? Should I care?

Your list was insulting tripe. If you don't care then oh well. It's your problem.

If you give no reason to believe that you had much idea about what was being said, of course I won't care. Seriously, threatening me with "How about I make a list of how ignorant and crappy Republicans are?" is pretty hilarious, just about no matter how I look at it.

Convincing people that if a political discussion is turning against you, there is nothing wrong with

ad homs (Tillerson is dumb as a rock), false dichotomies (If you don’t want the wall then you want murderers, drug addicts, and human traffickers), appeals to fear, appeals to ignorance, slippery slopes, appeals to tradition, and probably a dozen others I don’t have time to look up.

Even worse, when he is too peeved to decide which fallacy to use, he simply says, “Nope, I’m not talking to you anymore.” Chess and pigeons - now it is all chess and pigeons.

I am also disheartened by the number of things he just makes up on the spot. He throws out a statistic and then fact checkers are driven nuts because they can’t find anything close to that number, and when they call the White House for clarification, no one will provide an answer.
