Looks at list, notices the complete absence of the word promise in any quote.

Gets accused of quibbling.

Keeping up with the lefts lies is exhausting...

I think one can promise something without using the word promise, just like you can say something without using the word say.

"I'll produce my tax returns, absolutely" is an obvious promise.

With normal people, repeatedly saying one will do something *is* considered a promise.

I have promised my kids lots of things over the years, but rarely have I needed to use the words, "I promise", only if they were upset and particularly worried.

It's also an obvious lie. His supporters think it's OK that he does not do the things he said he would do as long as he does not use the word 'promise'. Integrity is a foreign word to all of them.

Simple questions. Did he say he would release his returns? Did he do so?

If you want to stress that saying he'd do something is not a promise to do so, fine. I can drop the word "promise". It is still a fact that he did not do what he said he'd do and for no good reason which excuses his failure.

Honestly, pointing out the lack of the word "promise" is genuinely quibbling, especially when you call it a lie that he promised to do something. The heart of the matter is that he did not do what he said he would do and has no excuse. No one is hanging their reaction on whether a literal promise was given.

At least one person here actually is.

Because there is no possible basis that the frauds in the House need them other than to harass the Executive.

Gee trigger a constitutional crisis because orange man bad.

Morons

Constitutional crisis?

I’m so tired to Trump style hyperbole. “The Dems want drugs and criminals to pour into the US. They want to destroy AMERICA!” “What I did is a nothingburger and nobody should ask about it ever.” “Enemy of the people” “SNL should be investigated because they made fun of me.” Thats a constitutional crisis. The law about looking at tax returns has been on the books for over 90 years. That’s not a Consitutional crisis.

What kind of American doesn’t want checks and balances in place. That’s the bedrock of our country and now some citizens are saying Dear Leader is too wonderful for anyone to look at his financial records. The law can apply to everyone else; but not to President Donald J. Trump.

I want proof there is no violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution.
I want to know how many rooms the Saudis have been renting for the past two years and at what rate. It’s mighty, mighty, mighty strange that the president cannot accept the conclusions of his intelligence agencies. He would have us believe a mid-level officer or political official said to himself “ I will order an execution in one of our diplomatic offices. The killing will immediately become so notorious that it will lead the news cycle around the world. I am very, very confident that my superiors will not immediately execute me for talking matters into my own hands, after all no domestic political official has ever been executed by the royal family.”

All very convenient to spout these things if you are a crook with things to hide. Even more convenient when so many rubes will buy this **** and regurgitate it.

Yes, I shouldn't have spoken in absolutes.

TBD's strategy works some time. Find a trivial and disputable claim in someone's post and focus on that. Now, rather than discussing the heart of the matter (Trump said he would release his taxes and has not done so), part of this thread has devolved into a discussion of the meaning of the word "promise".

Quibbling was an apt description of TBD's silly rejoinder, but give credit where it's due. It was somewhat effective quibbling. On a board like this, someone is apt to take the bait.

Oh but Trump is bound by loyalty to an organization: The Oaf Keepers.

I think a fair percentage are embellishing the stories to make the president appear even better.

The question is 'why?'

This is TBD. Given his history, there is absolutely no need to assume that he's responding in good faith.

“A man’s word is his bond”.

But I guess when MacArthur said “I shall return”, it also didn’t include the word “promise”. But I bet he still felt obligated to live up to his word.

Some people do. Others don’t. Ask yourself which camp Trump is in.

Trump has made it clear in his book and throughout his entire life that lying is an essential tactic to get your way, and that honesty is the same as stupidity.
The biggest lie of Trump's presidency was his Oath of Office.

We've reached the point of hair splitting over weather he said he promised to do something he said he would do? Is the next step stipulating that he didn't "pinky swear; cross his heart and hope to die?"
