The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

My initial comment was in reply to the statement the person who would leak Trump's tax records belongs in jail. I have no empathy for crimes against Trump.
I agree that any House committee members who leak the information are violating their oath and the law.

I have no idea what the whistleblower laws are and if they could protect a leaker in this case.

Ahhh....no we can't let this be normal. We can't let Ms. Schlapp off the hook. This is not normal and she's a stupid, stupid cow or she's a moral coward and a base liar.
I thought "I don't have an answer to that" was actually a pretty good answer.

Can you imagine what being a director of strategic communications even means in the Trump administration? Strategically they should put duct tape over his mouth. Or maybe that's a tactic, I'm never sure of the distinction.

Remember when Trump said he would release his taxes?

And after not releasing them during the primaries, he said he would release them if he won the nomination?

And then after he won the nomination, he gave the excuse of being under audit?
As if that's a good reason?

Now they're issuing a subpoena for them and what is Trump's answer? "Sure, No problem, here they are,"

Think again. Nope. "It's hell no, see my lawyers."

I keep thinking that the more he talks the better, that eventually even his sycophants will realize the toxic brew of BS and nastiness spewing forth for what it is. But he does...and they still don't. Whomever above said that we can't let this become the new normal is right, but I ask this as a serious question...have we passed the point of no return? Has enough distrust of facts, journalism, media and reality been sewn into the American fabric that we can never fully recover? What if he still wins another 4 yrs??

Then my opinion that a large percentage of Americans are too stupid to walk and chew gum at the same time will be confirmed yet again..

More people believe in angels than not.

Most people don't believe in evolution.

I'm afraid you nailed it.

To me it's not even the vile things he says, it's how little sense he makes. Wind turbines cause cancer? Someone is going to leak to the press a televised speech? That was in front of a bunch of Republican congressmen who are yoking their political fate to Trump's appeal 18 months from now. If his health really is unraveling, they might want to rethink their plan.

IMO, if Trump is re-elected the American experiment will have failed. Not because of the people who vote for him, but because of the ones who don't show up to vote against him.

Some of those people are probably counting on smarter people to do science, medicine, tech etc. I'm not sure they really want to be in charge.

Honestly, I'm at the point where i think everyone who hasn't already drunk the Trump KoolAid should just stop listening to him at all. He clearly isn't interested in having a real conversation with us, he's just posting stupid propaganda directed at his stupid base. There's literally nothing of worth in anything he's said in months, maybe longer.

Be fair. He's good for the occasional chuckle.

In a sad. "Hey, did you see that guy in the wheelchair fall down the stairs?" sort of way, I admit. But if we don't look for a funny side all that's left is the crying.

He's the Curly Howard of presidents.

Yet these people, who had previously understood that they needed smarter people than them running their country as well as doing science medicine and tech, apparently decided in 2016 that no, what they really wanted was someone just as stupid and ignorant as them in charge.

That is a grossly inappropriate thing to say.

Curly Howard was talented and contributed his fair share. President Trump is more of a Shemp.

Quite an oversimplification.

Most folks on this board value skepticism, evidence, and logic. And most of those folks, in turn, value learning, formal education, and intelligence.

But if you are in an economically depressed area, you may never had much use for skeptics and intellectuals. So when a fast-talking, loud-mouthed con man comes along using language you understand, then his grossly oversimplified solutions to complex issues appear to be the common-sense answer to the perceived contempt Washington has for the common man and his problems.

They didn’t choose him because he is dumb, they chose him because, as is often quoted, he is a dumb man’s idea of a smart man, a poor man’s idea of a rich man, and a weak man’s idea of a strong man.

There is absolutely nothing Trump can do to lose his base. They will stick with him to the end, to their own grave if necessary. "That will show them foreigner loving liberals" will be their last words.
