The Latest: Trump backs off Special Olympics funding cut

President Donald Trump says he is backing off a budget request to cut funding for the Special Olympics, after days of criticism.

Trump told reporters at the White House Thursday, “I’ve overridden my people for funding the Special Olympics.”

DeVos goes under the bus so that Trump can be the good guy. Couldn't happen to a nicer person.

Sadly, its not the only time this week that Trump has tried to brag about how he "supports" some popular program, even after trying to cut its funding.

From: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/3/29/18286781/trump-michigan-rally-great-lakes
"I support the Great Lakes. Always have. They are beautiful. They are big, very deep. Record deepness, right? And I am going to get, in honor of my friends, full funding of $300 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, which you have been trying to get for over 30 years. So, we will get it done."
...
In fact, less than a month ago, his administration proposed a budget that would’ve reduced funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, from $300 million to just $30 million.

When Trump hears about that, he'll just blame his "people" and order them to restore the $300 million. Whatever, let's all hope he talks himself into rescinding the health care cuts, too.

Does it really need to be added that he's completely wrong? In terms of depth, none of the Great Lakes are even in the top 30.
#1 is in Russia. I guess none of his friends ever mentioned it during meetings.

Well, he said they were "record deepness", but he didn't say what that exact record was. Maybe its "they hold the record for deepness, for large lakes bordering the Canada/U.S. border, that empty out into the Atlantic Ocean". (In other words, claim they are "record deep", using some restrictive criteria.)

Admittedly, I'm not too concerned about that...It is weird that he would see the need to 'brag' about their depth, but its the type of mistake a real president might have made. (I wouldn't expect a president to be an expert in Oceanography.) And it pales in comparison with the lie that he made about funding (which is something he SHOULD know about, since his administration was involved.)

Here's one question I've never seen asked...

Where is the money going to come from?

Trump has demanded across-the-board cuts from many government agencies. If he's going to restore funding for the special olympics, does that mean he's making sure the department of education has more money overall? Or is he still demanding the department cut their overall budget by the same amount (which means DeVos will have to find some other program to cut).

Con-men and grifters always talk in superlatives -- that should be one's first clue about Trump, but some still don't get it.

They're deep, but they aren't the deepest in the US or the world. But I'm sure that Trump will say that any reports of deeper lakes is just fake news.

He's going to close the Mexican Border? Ok....................

Trump is getting more and more dangerous by the hour. Now that he believes he's gotten away with all the lies about Russia he's out there screaming for the press to be arrested, Democratic legislators to resign, it sounds like he's about to pardon all those "innocent people" he claims were wrongly persecuted by the Russia investigation, end the ACA even though his replacement plan is pure fantasy, ... it's no surprise he's even talking about shutting the border.

It's scary.

FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago. It is an embarrassment to our Nation!

Trump is going to personally get involved in anything that gets publicity. Hopefully he'll find out "his people" do not have the authority to do anything Trump wants.

Unfortunately Rahm Emanuel wants to fine Smollett ~$130K. I say Smollet is mentally ill, there's no reason to keep dragging this out.

He never ceases to amaze me by his command of the English language. Shakespeare can't hold a candle to the sheer beauty and eloquence of Trump.

I haven't heard his announcement saying that he had a plan. In fact, I think he said the meeting was to discuss the GOP plan ... which is like discussing what color unicorn tails are.

When has Trump ever not called something his plan? He's repeating it again at his rallies.

This is from search because I don't have access to WAPo without fussing with an incognito window:
