Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

Apparently. And the facts are that Muslims were targetted by a white supremacist, 50 of them were murdered, the murderer drew inspiration from various right wing figures often lauded by certain people on this forum and the ideological brethren of those people want to talk about how bad it is for the NZ PM to wear a hijab in solidarity with the slain.

The implications in the hilite are disgusting. You are disgusting for making such accusations. I will gladly take a yellow card for saying this. Do you have the guts to do the same and name names instead of hiding behind insinuations?

Facts are inconvenient things.

Sadly it is not astounding as that those like yourself who seem to think if "Islam" is mentioned in a thread then all we should be doing is criticising the people who follow that religion or the relgion itself. It's just the usual crap.

Good thing nothing like you describe has happened here then. Keeping adding more straw to the thread.

What's wrong with discussing facts on an internet message forum supposedly dedicated to critical thinking?

Why would you remind him that the shooter was an immigrant unless you're trying to stir up anti-immigrant hatred?
Because some of the people I associate with blame immigrants for the violence perpetrated against them.

Most immigrants are peaceful law abiding citizens who are just trying to make a better life for themselves.
In this case an immigrant arrived in NZ then killed other immigrants and/or residents who were peacefully assembling at a church.

The mosque is used for recruiting radical jihadists but maybe not ISIS soldiers. You're right about the shooter being an immigrant. There's no evidence he killed any ISIS soldiers but it's likely he killed some sympathizers. Like that would make it better or worse anyway.
If it is likely that sympathizers were killed, then perhaps you can name them unless you're just trying to stir up trouble.

It makes me sad that such a large portion of this thread has come to be about criticism against the support and solidarity shown towards Muslims after a terror attack by a white supremacist against Muslims.

I would have thought people here were better than that.

In 2019, you still thought people were better that that?

Another bubble burst, I guess.

Some people are using the NZ attack as motivation to attack other mosques: https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/lo...d-efd-sdso-reported-arson-unit-507585851.html

And the world turns...

Didn't you know? That's what bigots and racists do (and there are probably a lot more of them on this forum than you think). They want to side track the discussion about the evils of white supremacy into a tirade of victim blaming. After all, it is all the fault of the "others"; if only they were nice white people (Christian or atheist), they would still be alive - they're only dead because they were brown, Muslim immigrants.

That is sick, and sad. It could have been much worse with people sleeping there, but maybe good that they were there to detect the fire early and extinguish it.

I don't know if sleeping at a mosque is common, but this may unfortunately turn out to be a level of protection that muslims will have to consider to protect their people, property and interests. Miserable ******* world.

There seems to be a lot of accusations against other posters being made on here, with zero examples being used as evidence.

It is getting slightly tedious

I've highlighted the relevant parts for you in case you can't work out your error by yourself

Well you are trying hard. I will give you that.

More precisely, his yard is not entirely hidden behind a fence. Half of the yard work he does is in the front of his house, exposed to the street and, you know, the public. He also does not seem to be reticent about getting into his car in his shorts and driving along public roads. He may even end his journey at a store where there will be members of the public. Further to that, as recently as last Friday I passed him walking with his wife. He was wearings shorts and sneakers (we are having unseasonably warm weather here) and the missus was wearing track pants. They were walking rather briskly, obviously intending to get some exercise. They were quite appropriately dressed.

You know, you have made some very good points in this thread. There is a lot that I agree with. Wasting your time trying to poke trivial holes in every minor thing I post is not really getting you very far. Anecdote battles are seldom productive.

Its a general observation. There are levels of bigotry and racism;

The "hard racist/bigot". They are the haters, they aggressively support white supremacists and say that people who support the victims or who would allow brown people to live and work in the country are race traitors. They blame immigrants for their own victimization, and are the most likely to become terrorists.

The "open racist/bigot". They don't like "others" (defined as anyone who is "other" w.r.t. themselves). When when asked they will say so. They think there nothing wrong with racist and religious jokes and memes that rely on bigotry. "....the Jews will not replace us"

The "soft racist/bigot". These are the "fine people on both sides" lot. Intellectual cowards who will never come out and say exactly what they think, because they don't want to actually be pegged as racists even if that is what they, and everyone else knows, they are.

The "covert racist/bigot". These are the dog-whistlers. They try to pretend they are not racists or bigots, and will do and say things that you cannot quite pin down as racism or bigotry, such as being critical of the way one group acts in support of another, victimised group. These are by far the most prevalent ones. Most of them don't even realise that what they are doing is racist or bigoted. I've even caught myself saying things that would put me in this group, particularly when I get into a discussion about the existence gods and deities.

Satisfied?
