No, they are not. They are talking about general restrictions on viewing, distributing, downloading etc...

If the police show up at his house and say they want to arrest him for viewing it, I am pretty sure it would not take long to explain he wanted to view it to see if his brother was in the video.

Sounds good and let's hope you find some real examples of racism and Islamophobia to call out instead of having to manufacture any to fulfill your social obligation.

I actually heard an old white guy tell a racist joke to a black guy today. I didn't call it out because the black guy laughed at it and after the old guy wandered off we ended up researching where the term coon came from. Now I have to reset the clock for the last time I heard a racist joke (IRL) from almost two years, to zero.

If it makes you feel better, I don't blame you for the shooting, and I am pretty sure that if you had stood up to every person who made a racist joke, and written letters and emails to every TV company that featured something a bit racist, or denounced politicians such as Pauline Hanson and Fraser Anning, this event still would have happened (notwithstanding the vagaries of chaos theory).

I know that whenever I have said, "Hey, that's racist!" I have more often been met with derision or "So ******* what?!" I think calling it out is not something that tends to be successful.

I think there is also a problem with this self-imposed collective guilt. It has corollaries that you probably don't want to make.

Isn't it common to hear people saying such things as "Muslims need to denounce terrorists who commit terrorism in the name of Islam!"? Would you agree that calling yourself guilty of this crime by virtue (or vice) of being a white Australian, it also suggests that Sunni Muslims should feel responsible for the atrocities of al Qaeda and ISIS? Or that Shia Muslims bear some responsibility for Hezbollah? Or maybe Irish people bear responsibility for the IRA, and Japanese people are collectively responsible for that Pen, Pineapple, Apple Pen song?

It's one thing to argue that action should be taken against racists, and that people should vote out or shun racist populists, but it is another thing to say you are guilty! In fact, trying to share the guilt around is almost exculpatory of the actual murderer.

I have no problem with them blocking Kiwi Farms either. They were asked to comply with New Zealand law and angrily refused, so of course they should be blocked.

Arcade22 earlier said that large scale propagandists and low level viewers of material should be distinguished. It looks like New Zealand is doing that.

Let me be clear. I don't personally blame myself for the actual shooting. I am not personally responsible for that. But I am a white male Australian, and white male Australians have royally ****** a lot of things up. We have forced a society upon people who aren't white male Australians that is unjust and unfair. I recognise these faults and I want to do my part to address them.

I think there should be an amnesty on all this with the 18 year old being released from prison and clear laws passed for the future. I haven't seen the video or tried to, but plenty have both seen it and tried to see it, especially younger people who should not now be fearful as a result.

It seems that there has already been some clarification on this:

It is illegal for anyone in New Zealand to view, possess or distribute this material in any form, including via social media platforms.

“We’re aware that for a time after the attacks, this video was widely available on social media and many New Zealanders saw it, sometimes without meaning to”.

“Its important people are now clear they should not view, download or share the video”, says Mr Shanks.

They're going to have to block VPNs as well because without doing that, the Kiwi Farms block is nothing more than symbolic. I mean, if they really want to keep their people safe.

The way I see it is that if a website is blocked for whatever reason, and you use a VPN to get round it, then you are simply committing an aggravated crime. This isn't too hard to work out.

I mean, again, look at something like child pornography. Isn't it a much larger indicator of guilt if someone masks their identity to look at it or download it or distribute it. It doesn't mean that the authorities simply throw up their hands and say, "Well guys, we passed laws and took actions to stop crime happening, and yet there is crime every. single. bloody. day. We may as well disband the police and stop even trying to do anything about it."

Tried to do a search for the forum. I cannot reach it. After doing some more reading I am glad I could not reach it. They routinely mock the disabled.

He appears to have shared it, which is his problem.

I'd like to think he's given the benefit of the doubt here, unless there are compelling reasons to throw the book at him.

Right now, he's being held on remand for possibly just doing what kids do all the time.

The sickest irony is that him, Tarrant and all of their fans are more useless than any disable person. None of them have jobs and none of them contribute a single thing to the planet or species.

Disgusting vermin, and very much the problem with unlimited free speech. Giving those people a platform and means to harass others is a bad idea.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it just a DNS server request block? So anyone using an alternate DNS server like Googles (which, for completely different reasons, pretty much everyone should be doing anyway) would not notice anything blocked?
