Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

Interesting how every thread on right-wing terrorism turns into a thread on gun control and mental health.

For some reason that does not seem to happen when it's a muslim pulling the trigger.
Pretty sure gun control comes up with all these senseless shootings.

But as for mental health, I suggest there's a difference between someone finding a cult attractive and joining in, and someone who blames everyone else for their failures and shoots a bunch of people to get even and someone who has schizophrenia.

There certainly could be alt-right groups that people like this shooter join just like someone joining the jihad. I'm not sure we know yet where this guy falls on the spectrum.

The 17 year old got what he deserved. He assaulted a man, that man turned and defended himself. That's what I saw. Should he have done it? No, but I sure enjoyed watching it.

I hear this Anning guy is some kind of a-hole, but I'm only judging by what I see in the video.

Some do-gooder thinks it's okay to assault people if they say things that upset him, just like some posters here. He got exactly what he asked for.

The bodyguards attacking him after, not so good, but I absolutely defend Anning for turning and punching him. The kid did attack him. I have no problem with the way it happened personally.

Of course not. White Supremists to rought up their enemies is perfectly OK in your book.

Couple of interesting pieces of information have come to light.

First up, the former grunt who went to the Bruce Rifle Club, which is where Tarrant was a member, and was so disgusted by what he what he heard that he reported the club to the police in Nov 2017, about the time Tarrant joined:

He was concerned the ethos at the club was the "perfect breeding ground" for a mass shooter and lodged a formal complaint with the police.

The cops, despite being mere kilometres from two of NZ's mass shootings, shrugged it off as southern boys being southern boys.

Tarrant gave a White Power/QAnon signal at his court appearance. He also had Celtic Suns on his gear - a popular white supremacy graphic.

A Christchurch company insulation company also uses the Celtic Sun on their vans, while quoting a price on their website of $14-88 per square metre.

Certainly not hiding their light under a bushel.

The shooter's manifesto was emailed to multiple people, including the Prime Minister, 10 minutes before he started the attack.

Even at this early stage of the investigation I am completely convinced this guy slipped through a net that didn't even exist. His online record of hate goes back to his teenage years and nobody was taking any notice.

The gun laws are almost a red herring at this point - if he hadn't been getting a gun licence, he could have been getting a truck licence and stolen a petrol tanker, then detonated it at the Bangladesh cricket game, killing hundreds, or thousands. He was clearly committed to his goal that while guns made it easy, the lack of them wouldn't necessarily have lowered the death toll.

A question I've not heard asked yet is, where did this bloke get his money?
He travelled extensively, and that's not cheap. he was buying fairly expensive guns, using a lot of very expensive ammo, paying rent in a very overpriced market, living in a country with one of the highest costs of living compared to pay on the planet, and it's not even clear that the bloke was working.

Where the hell did all his money come from?

He inherited it from his father.

And then he turned around and punched the kid twice in the face, and one of the "bodyguards" kicked the kid when he was already restrained.

I hope the cops arrest some of those "bodyguards", and Fraser Anning while they are at it.

Then 5-6 of them held the kid down, he may not have been able to breathe. I hope the kid was alright, the crowd and the legislator are reminiscent of Trump.

Fraser Anning punches teen after being egged while speaking to media in Melbourne
Senator Anning was widely criticised in January for flying to Melbourne at taxpayers' expense to attend another far-right protest.
He barely has any political support, yet he's still there.

This guy and his thugs are a piece of work.

Limbaugh, a ******* low-life scumbag

Agreed.
Irony is when he first came on in the early 90's he ridiculed conspiracy theories, and criticized fellow conservatives who used them, but since 2000 he has gone totally into lala land.

And I'll add that he's almost certainly a failure with the ladies. These guys always seem to be unable to get a girlfriend and they resent it.

Yes, him being an Incel would fit perfectly.

Guns make it easy.

Nice of you to repeat exactly what I said.

For attacking someone from behind ? Australia is more screwed up than I thought.

Australia also isn't part of this discussion, so how about you start a new thread?

We were very concerned about jihadi terrorism and about gangs and about nationalistic Māori groups...

We were watching everyone else, but the attack came from the far-right. We were a little complacent. We didn't see it coming.

And the story of the bloke who took on an insane gunman in the middle of a killing spree, armed with an EFTPOS machine and one of the gunman's discarded rifles with no bullets in it.

Anyone looking for the bloke with the biggest brass balls on the planet need look no further. I sense an investiture at Government House and thoroughly deserved. Probably saved at least a dozen lives.

Abdul Aziz, I salute you!

"Egging" deserving dickwits politicians like Anning is a time honored tradition, and it really doesn't matter what direction the egg come from.

Eggboy seems to be getting some support too...

Why aren't we going after white supremacists online presence the same way we go after ISIS?

So a couple of things I saw just before heading to bed and so didn't post.

First, I have to correct a few posts I made because I found I was not quite accurate, and this is one is really stupid and the law here REALLY needs to be fixed.

So extended magazines are illegal without the proper endorsement, only if you have a gun they can be attached to! This means that anyone, even people without a licence, can buy them legally. But if you have a gun they can be fitted to then, even if that gun was a class A, then it instantly becomes a class E and unless you have a E class endorsement on your licence, you are breaking the law by possessing the extended magazine because you now have a E class weapon.

This is stupid. These magazines need to be outlawed completely, even for hunters and pest controllers 15 pounds should be plenty. But any capacity over the 10 for .22 or 7 for higher should only be available with a Class E endorsement. I would also seriously consider making any semi autos that have a detachable clip that can be changed for another clip of greater capacity to be an E-Class weapon as well.

Yeah this is a very dumb loophole and it has been brought to light by the head of our gun association who believes it needs to be closed and should never have been allowed.

Second, and this is just as stupid...

So Chelsea Clinton went to a vigil for the victims at NYU and was accused of being the cause of the attack because of her tweet that no one, including congressional leaders, should be making anti-Semitic statements. This is just sick and wrong from those that attacked her for this. Such statements had nothing to do with this attack and to use this tragedy to attack someone else is utterly and totally vile and disrespectful to the 50 people who were callously gunned down.

But now the count is 50. They found one more body than they originally counted when they removed the bodies from the mosque.
