Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

Apologies if this got covered already, I just lost my mind over it...

Fox Analyst Decries NZ Attack, Calls Alleged Political Motive ‘Understandable’

“It is very understandable what he is trying to do on a political level, obviously it’s horrific and it should be condemned completely on the action level,” Walid Phares told Fox News on Friday, before discussing the attention the shooter likely wants to bring to his ideological beliefs through the attack and trial.

Somehow he goes on to declare how the Arab and Muslim world need to do something about this.

“Mosques, churches have been attacked by extremists on all sides. But what is interesting here is that this individual allegedly has been inspired by an ideology that claims that you should take action, violent action, against immigrants or members of the Islamic faith, that is something that the government in New Zealand and around the world both in the Arab world, Muslim world needs to take action against.”

Not to mention, ehhh, you just made a call to action, sir...

He then went on to tweet, blaming Iran for twisting his words and making him look bad.

The song playing through all of this is Fire by Arthur Brown. Again like some sort of spree killer video game or a movie.

He used the computer game Fortnite as practice for the plan. Sounds like he played it fairly faithfully.

CNN says that only one person died at the hospital.

A witness at Al Noor says it took police 20 minutes to arrive when it should have taken about 2 minutes.

I have no idea if any of this stuff is true.

One dead after getting to hospital is correct.

It was never going to take the cops 2 minutes to get there. It might have taken 2 minutes to get a cop there, but they'd have needed to get guns first.

It's somewhat ironic that cops in Chch had been routinely carrying guns for the last couple of weeks due to them hunting for an armed offender, but they'd just stopped doing only days prior.

Try him, convict him and lock him in a small, cold, steel-walled cell with no windows, no human contact and his meals slid to him though a slot.

Yeah, and then could sue Corrections and get more publicity. Treat him like Breivik.

Someone (Cullen?) said earlier that Christchurch Airport was closed because they don’t check baggage. Someone please say this isn’t so.

Airport was closed, but they certainly check baggage there.

Culley - see the bloke was living in Dunedin and originally planned the attack in that city but went north for unknown reasons.

His name was known immediately because he was live streaming using his own account which is his actual name.

Close family friends say they think he may have become radicalized after his father died in 2010. He then began travelling extensively all over the world and seemed to have changed.

IMO, world travel tends to do the opposite and that xenophobic radicalization would happen more often for a person hunkering down in the homeland and not going anywhere else. I could be wrong.

Looks like a pretty straightforward, "the ends are understandable, but don't justify the means" type argument.

I read that the Muslims at these mosques are almost entirely from India, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

I think the quote system doesn't work if you have javascript disabled

It wasn't disabled. But doesn't matter....

I refer you back to my earlier post about sentencing in NZ

However, I agree with the bulk of your sentiment. There should be no media coverage of the trial except that it is happening. No coverage of anything he says, no reporting of his defense. There should be no way for his vile rhetoric and despicable views to be made public.

Try him, convict him and lock him in a small, cold, steel-walled cell with no windows, no human contact and his meals slid to him though a slot.

I understand, as I said in my origional Grand Tyrant post, that the legal system requires a trial. But to what purpose in this particular case?

How much money will the NZ government waste on proving this person guilty of murders he proudly filmed himself doing? Use that money to help the relatives of the victims, to better help New Zealanders lose any prejudices and integrate immigrants into general society, to better the society as a whole.

Ok, but try making the equivalent point on Fox News about an Arab or Muslim attacker.

That and the sheer audacity of concluding that a Mosque shooting is something the "Arab, Muslim world" needs to do something about.

Why is education of New Zealanders an issue? The shooter was an immigrant. From Australia.

I haven't seen the original quote, but I just heard Sean Hannity on the radio raking Rep. Ocasio-Cortez over the coals for being so cruel and uncaring as to suggest that people consider doing something more substantial and practical than just offering thoughts and prayers.

The PDJT Tweeted:
My warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand after the horrible massacre in the Mosques.
I find it curious that this is the only time he did not offer "thoughts and prayers". I thought probably because he's not going to offer Christian prayers to any damn Muslims. He's shown enough dickishness in his past that this is a very real possibility.
