Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

This event makes me realize how much the world is being ruined by groups of people who believe their way is the only way. That there is no room for arguement ,no room for compromise , all or nothing , fight for the sake of fighting ********.

And this can be said for the vast majority of social interaction in this day and age, and I'll be damned if I can think of any way to try and help change that.

"Tyranny is the deliberate removal of nuance." - Albert Maysle

It also seems to be a good way to get average folks to create violent chaos.

I haven't seen the original quote, but I just heard Sean Hannity on the radio raking Rep. Ocasio-Cortez over the coals for being so cruel and uncaring as to suggest that people consider doing something more substantial and practical than just offering thoughts and prayers.

I understand that the current legal system requires a trial. That's why I said I'd have to be the Tyrant to implement the sentence.

I refer you back to my earlier post about sentencing in NZ

However, I agree with the bulk of your sentiment. There should be no media coverage of the trial except that it is happening. No coverage of anything he says, no reporting of his defense. There should be no way for his vile rhetoric and despicable views to be made public.

Try him, convict him and lock him in a small, cold, steel-walled cell with no windows, no human contact and his meals slid to him though a slot.

Meh. Trump's concern IS faux concern of course; but the direction of his press conference wasn't objectionable. It is common practice to give a solidarity statement at the beginning of the next press conference after a major tragic event like this, but in all cases the conference then normally proceeds to the business it was actually held for - in this case, his veto of yesterday's Senate rejection of his state of emergency.
Yes it ******* was. I'm shocked you would apologize for this.

I am well aware of the norm in acknowledging such tragedies then going on with one's press conference. But a press conference that is as tone deaf as that?

No, any legitimate diplomat would never combine those two things. It's especially egregious parading said 'Angel families' when the families and loved ones of 49 dead New Zealanders are still in the anguish of the immediate aftermath and the shooter essentially said Trump's hatred of Muslims and anyone who isn't white is his role model.

If his argumentss will change people's minds, then people should hear it.

It seems the killer had firearms license, issued in November 2017... the **** is really going to hit the fan over that. Heads may well roll!

I'm guessing that if a person's social media postings and profile haven't been looked at as far as meeting the "fit and proper person" threshold, they will be now.

NZ Herald reports:

Shooter had 5 guns.

Camouflage wearer claims false arrest and intends to sue. He was picking up his child from school and cops held a gun to his head threatening to shoot him.

Still nothing about the two others being held, but nobody is talking about a second shooter at all.

Does such a permit allow one to import a semiautomatic rifle? I was shocked to see such a weapon in NZ, I think because of Australia's ban on certain guns after the Port Arthur mass shooting.

My thought was leaning toward all three ending up unrelated to the act of terror.

Someone (Cullen?) said earlier that Christchurch Airport was closed because they don’t check baggage. Someone please say this isn’t so.

Did Australia actually ban semi-automatic rifles, though? My understanding is that they had a voluntary amnesty, and also still permit such weapons.

To clarify: No one was standing behind him. He experimented with an online marketing service called fiver, where you pay as little as $5 to have someone film a message. He wanted to see if the site had any oversight as to what kind of messages were allowed. Two men, who seemingly did not speak any English, made a sign with the message he had sent, and held it up for the camera. He unintentionally highlighted a potential exploit in a service and was shocked that they actually allowed it. Fiverr then took steps to have more oversight and control over what messages could be read through their site.

I give him a pass on saying the word "******" while playing PUBG and live streaming, since it was out of frustration and in the heat of the moment. He didn't know the other player or their race. He immediately apologized the second the words left his mouth. I have heard far worse on XBOX live where online games can become really intense and emotional situations, where some even get physically destructive.

He went from obscurity to having over 89 milllion subscribers in just a few years using a medium that was largely unexplored territory. There were no steps to follow. He was bound to make mistakes along the way. Its been a learning process for everyone. I have no doubt he will take this tragedy to heart.

Sorry, but that is really weak excuse making.

Incorrrect. They are restricted to police (specialist squads usually) and the military.
