horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

'Team Smollett', I should have said.

Pretty confident they all worked together at the beginning, and continue to do so. Just a question of whether they are still on script or off to contingency plan #'s 1 or 2.
Who is the "they" you are talking about here?

That's a big if though. If one or both brothers cooperate with the investigation, say for immunity for their part, it's all over for Smollett. Realistically, why would they roll the dice on acquittal if immunity is a sure thing. This is all speculation, I don't know if such an offer is being made.

Immunity from what? The brothers have not been charged with anything, nor does there appear to be anything for the Cooke County DA to charge them with.

(If they had anything to do with the letter, well, then that's a different matter, but still not something for which the DA can grant immunity.)

Agreed, speculation. The brothers' careers would be over if they take an immunity deal. Would you hire them? But if they and Smollett stick together, they still have a future, with more notoriety than before. Simple no-snitch loyalty, and everyone wins, assuming there is no smoking gun laying around that CPD has a lid on. Smollett welcoming cameras sounds like he is trying his hand at directing again.

They have already started working with police, no?

all three have, to differing degrees. Any petty schemes I have been in on in my ill spent youth had contingency plans, should things fall apart, including party lines if you get popped. A certain amount of talking would be necessary to get you back on the street without charges. Being careful what exactly you revealed could stay on script

Records: Former Michelle Obama aide, Smollett relative reached out to Kim Foxx

" Just days after Jussie Smollett told Chicago police he had fought off a pair of attackers who targeted him in an apparent hate crime, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx tried to convince Police Supt. Eddie Johnson to turn the investigation over to the FBI.

Foxx’s call to Johnson came after an influential supporter of the “Empire” actor reached out to Foxx personally: Tina Tchen, a Chicago attorney and former chief of staff for former First Lady Michelle Obama, according to emails and text messages provided by Foxx to the Chicago Sun-Times in response to a public records request."

This operation doesn't strike me of having anywhere near the competence of your average street criminal. Smollett pretty much botched it start to finish. It certainly seems they planned ahead, but not very well. I don't expect any flourishes of criminal brilliance to save him.

In reading the various posts in this thread speculating on possible motives and consequences it's clear that the povs (from various angles) are all based on what rational folks would do, and that's where the problem starts.

There are individuals that act on their own volition in ways that make -0- sense to any reasonable observer.

Case in point. On the desktop of my work computer there is a folder that contains security camera footage showing six different camera views of an incident from 2018.

The individual involved is suing their employer for wrongful termination and our corporation for making false reports to their employer that resulted in their termination.

The individual claims that what the six cameras depict never occurred...and the 1080p camera footage absolutely shows this individual is lying. There is no possibility of it being a different individual involved and it very clearly shows the incident in full, start to finish.

The individual knows they were on camera during the totality of the event and was in fact shown the camera footage at the time - and there is video of him watching the video of the incident in my office as well as the video of the incident (No, this isn't retail shoplifting or any similar situation)

The person swears that they did not commit the act. His account isn't that he wasn't there, or some other explanation, it's literally that what is on video never happened.

There is no rational explanation for his actions during the incident or afterwards.

In certain situations, attempting to use rational thinking to get to the bottom of a situation is doomed to failure. This case might well be one of those situations.

even Stevie Wonder could see Smolletts lying and hoaxed the attack

why he's persisting with the lie is incredible. Maybe he thinks he went so far in the GMA interview he cant back down

Judge wont be nice to him. He will be humiliated in court if he goes through with it.

"You were his personal trainer and a friend and then you beat his face with your fists. Isn't that correct?"

Doesn't look like a plea deal is in the works.

I get a feeling the Smolett somehow thinks having the courtroom proceedings on TV will somehow help his career.
Yes, I think some show biz celebs really do see everything in terms of their career.
Well, it will be quite a spectacle. I am against televised trials on principal;I think they inevitably corrupt the trial process; it is not a coincidence that no major trials in the US have been televisied live since the OJ Simpson debacle.

Can't a judge pretty much order anyone in their courtroom to stand up and take a lecture from the bench?
Geragos to Smollett: "This Judge may try to humiliate and intimidate you. Don't concern yourself. You are innocent of these charges and so you can stand tall."

Geragos might believe that the public will never actually see the trial on TV. If so, then it's good strategy to say that you want it televised. That way the public thinks you must have a very strong case for innocence. Or rather, the prosecution must have a very weak case if Smollett wants it televised.

It's true that trials are won or lost on the prosecution's ability to prove its case. The defense doesn't have to prove anything. But the general public still often thinks in terms of the defense proving innocence.

Good advice, but it's still advice for someone who has to stand there while being made a ridiculous spectacle.
Geragos will portray the brothers as lying money grabbers who would stoop as low as beating up a poor guy at 2am while wearing concealing clothing and yelling hateful words.

His job is to make the jury hate the brothers and not trust them to tell the truth about anything. Geragos will dig up every bit of dirt that he possibly can on them.

The brothers and their family will be both crying and enraged when Geragos gets rolling on them.
