The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

Here's a little news that I think is a mix of old and new. Fox News likely gave Trump special help during his debates during his campaign. There's a lot more in that article, but... I'll only touch on a little.

I consider the following to be the money quotes from that long and depressing article:
The genius was seeing that there’s an attraction to fear-based, anger-based politics that has to do with class and race.”

Ailes invented programming, ... “that confirmed all your worst instincts—Fox News’ fundamental business model is driving fear.”

Yep, it's the GOP model now. Fear of immigration. Fear of blacks. Fear of liberals. Fear of .... Well, you get the idea. And, no doubt, fear is a powerful motivator.

No fan of Omar, who IMHO has a remarkable ability to put her foot in her mouth when Israel,,or rather US supporters of Israel is concerned...but still this is just over the top.

Ehh... I would disagree a bit. I have little problem with the things that Omar actually said, when combined with how she's handled things after. I will agree that the "Israel supporters" are over the top defensive. It's a really bad state of affairs anytime you get people who are pretty much literally saying "You are NOT allowed to even raise concerns about the bad conduct of the government of X foreign country or the lobbying groups for that government!" The Democrats' move to try to censure Omar for anti-semitism was and maybe still is pretty much patently absurd, a lot like the recent move to infringe upon the 1st Amendment by saying that a bunch of people are simply not allowed to participate in boycotts of Israel of any kind. Not least because of all the other obvious candidates to reprimand that are being treated radically differently.

Some stuff for today's dump, then.

The White House has directly refused to release documents about how Jared Kushner, for example, got his security clearance. Unsurprisingly, the argument they made appears to be utter BS. Of some note is Chairman Cummings' statement.

“The White House appears to be arguing that Congress has no authority to examine decisions by the Executive Branch that impact our national security—even when the President’s former National Security Advisor has pleaded guilty to lying about his contacts with foreign government officials. There is a key difference between a president who exercises his authority under the Constitution and a president who overrules career experts and his top advisors to benefit his family members and then conceals his actions from the American people. The White House’s argument defies the Constitutional separation of powers, decades of precedent before this Committee, and just plain common-sense. The White House security clearance system is broken, and it needs both congressional oversight and legislative reform. I will be consulting with Members of the Committee to determine our next steps.”

Next... The Virginia GOP is offering a cash reward for the AG in blackface. $1000 dollars! Because the voluntary direct admission of doing so, with context, wasn't as impactful as they hoped, I guess? On the general topic of blackface, though... I fully admit to not truly understanding some of the hubbub about blackface, personally. I quite get the wrongness of how it's been used in various historical settings, of course, but think that the intent/reasoning and effects are the things that actually matter when it comes to judging such things. Moving on, though.

Related to CPAC, we've got Republicans literally claiming that Democrats want to kill all cows, which is a claim with even less merit than their claims about Obamacare Death Panels. Also, the count's apparently in. Donald Trump lied 104 times in his CPAC speech according to WaPo. That apparently was only his... 4th highest lie count day. Doesn't even have the chance to get a bronze medal.

The Trump Organization's insurance broker has been subpeonaed, now.

State officials in New York have subpoenaed the longtime insurer for the Trump Organization, Aon, over claims that the Trump Organization and President Trump himself were involved in efforts to inflate the company's assets for insurance purposes.

To wrap up this chunk, then... Remember Virginia's recent Republican electoral fraud where Republicans used the names of dead people to try to bring in a spoiler candidate for the Democrats? Still ongoing after 7 months or so. I wonder what's left to investigate, at this point, or whether it's just being slow walked to try to make it disappear into obscurity.

Gee more bad news for Donster.

Remember how huge this story was -- Trump's use of National Emergency powers -- just the other day it seems. People just can't keep up with his nonsense. Wow will I be glad when it's finally over and Trump exits the national stage.

Trump: "Exit -- stage right... Now pardon me while I go all SnagglePuss."

From a post in another thread, we now have a president who a majority of Americans believe to be a
  • A criminal (64%).
  • Dishonest (65%).
  • A poor leader (58%).
  • Does not care about the average American (58%).
  • Poor role model for children (71%).

Okay, some people still like Trump, think he's great. But even they have to admit -this is a president with some serious issues. To get this nation back on track that needs to be a starting point. Whether Trump suits your outlook or not, he's got some serious issues.

Following that failed stand-up routine at CPAC, most of us out here are no longer bothering with evaluating the impact of Trump's popularity poll numbers. Instead, we are wondering: What the actual **** is wrong with your president??! And do you have a backup?

I'm not sure it was a failed routine at all. You and I simply weren't part of the intended audience.

The intended audience (or 'market') for the CPAC routine was among those who think Donnie is
  • Not a criminal (24%).
  • Not dishonest (30%).
  • Not a poor leader (39%).
  • Does care about the average American (39%).
  • Not a poor role model for children (22%).

He’s working on his new career. He’ll be appearing in Vegas to sell out crowds at 10 dollar shows, 3 shows per day. In Vegas. If the show is sold out, you can visit President Trump wax museum! Measure Stormy and Melania bosom and waist yourself if you buy the 15 dollar souvenir tape!

They have a backup but he's a fundie religious nut.

Let’s have him then. He can limp to the end,1-2 years. Pelosi will keep him in check. Also, need to start Kavanaugh impeachment. Not necessary to win, just hold back the court.

Kavanaugh is probably the best supreme Court Justice on there.

Think about it. Who is best equipped to figure out the meaning of a document prepared by entitled, rich, white male, slave owners? Sotomayor or kavanaugh?

Trump Tweets

Weirdo Tom Steyer doesn’t have the “guts” or money to run for President. He’s all talk!
