The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

Putin wants the US to know (and probably Italy too) that if any reaction is attempted to Russian meddling in foreign elections, they will be ready to back it up militarially. I hoped the end of the Cold War could result in better relations between the US and Russia, or Russia and the rest of the world, but apparently it's going to result in WW3.

Following terrorist attacks from Pakistani-controlled territory which coincided with a visit by the Saudis, who've been bankrolling Pakistan since the US realised it was getting ripped-off. All part of the Saudi effort to create a grand Sunni alliance with themselves at the head and Israel on-board. (If anyone can replace the US as an arms-supplier it's the Israelis, most of whose kit is US knock-off.)

I doubt Trump knows much, if anything, about all that, but fortunately he gets regular intelligence briefings from people who do.

But ignores or strongly denies them, so he still does not know much, if anything.

Putin's just sabre-rattling for the benefit of his own nationalists. Russia couldn't sustain a war, even against Italy (which has a larger economy). Unless you're Ukrainian you can rest easy, I think.

Apparenly there has already been retaliation...one of Russia biggest Internet Troll farms waa shut down by the US Cyber Command the day of the 2018 elections.

I think your biases are showing.
Such as? Religious influence has been increasing in the US and Israel for decades, through the Republicans and the Likud coalitions which are dependent on the Blood and Soil fanatics who murdered Rabin. The re-emergence of religion as a political force hs been widespread - Putin's appeals to the Russian Orthodox Church being another example. The only religion which is on the back foot is Catholicism, for which small mercy let's be grateful.

Soon as trump got elected, Leftists became super hawk neo-cons.

Oh he is pulling troops out of Syria! Shock horror!

Oh he is actually trying to broker a peace deal in Korea. BOO! HISS!

Winding up Afghanistan? No!

Looks at all the leftists panting for him to fail at bringing peace.

Oh well, TDS is a fatal disease.

Go MR. PRESIDENT!

Any explanation for why Trump just assumed that Lee was referring to HIM as being on the wrong side of history and as the "hate' part of "love vs hate"? Did Lee mention him by name?

I didn't watch the Oscars but from what I have read, I don't think Spike Lee mentioned Donnie by name. Did he need to? ;)

Remember "basket of deplorables"?

It seems to be a Republican tradition. If the shoe fits ... put it on!

Another war Russia can't win.

If this is what the US Cyber Command did they are willing to let us know about, imagince what they are doing they are keeping under wraps.
And the US is pretty far ahead of the Russians in Computer Technology.
Yeah, Putin won a intial victory, like the Japanese at Pearl Harbor...but can't win this in the long run.

Weird I thought the Never Trumpers were saying that Trump was Putin's bitch...

now it seems that Putin is having a next level meltdown over the Nuke Treaty, that Putin has been treating with disdain for the past decade, until trump called him on it.
Where exactly is your proof that Putin is having a "meltdown" over the nuclear treaty?

The more likely explanation.. Putin is actually fine with the U.S. leaving the nuclear treaty, since now Russia can basically do whatever it wants, without having to worry about accusations that its violating the treaty. And whatever you see the Russians do is just for domestic consumption. "Look how big and bad we are. All hail Putin!"

Russian state television has listed U.S. military facilities that Moscow would target in the event of a nuclear strike, and said that a hypersonic missile Russia is developing would be able to hit them in less than five minutes. The targets included the Pentagon and the presidential retreat in Camp David, Md. The report, unusual even by the sometimes bellicose standards of Russian state TV, was broadcast on Sunday evening, days after President Vladimir Putin said Moscow was militarily ready for a ‘Cuban Missile’-style crisis if the United States wanted one.

This is the man Trump believes over his own intelligence agencies. The man who used his cyber forces to try and help get Trump elected. The Russians have admitted that. Trump told us he was going to have a good relationship with Russia. That it was very important we have a good relationship with them. They are all kinds of ties and contacts between Trump's people and Russia.

And now Putin is talking about hitting us with nuclear missiles and says he's ready for a show down any time we are. This is winning?

Indeed. Putin is lord of the frozen conflict, which he doesn't outright lose but doesn't win, and each of them leaches a little more of Russia's resources. In the Caucasus, in Ukraine, in Syria, in the post-Soviet mini-republics like Moldova, it's the same thing. All it serves to do is give Putin (and, by extension, Mother Russia) a fake veneer of influence. Sad.

That.

never though I would see so many people so angry at the possibility of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Trump Derangement Syndrome... hoo boy...
I am always hopeful that peace will be achieved. I don't hold out much hope of a man who can't even understand how tariffs work being able to negotiate the best outcome.
