horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

Jussie Smollett Dropped From Remainder Of ‘Empire’s Season By Producers

They haven't said yet if he will return next season yet, but I wouldn't bet on it.

There's also this from the Daily Fail:

'Arguments erupt' on Empire set after Jussie Smollett's arrest as 'furious' cast members call for him to be FIRED and Gabby Sidibe deletes supportive Instagram post while others stand by him and insist he is innocent

So I guess they need to come up with new story lines now. The final season of House of Cards kinda sucked too IMO, but what can you do? I watched it anyway having already watched the first 5 but it just wasn't the same without Spacey. They had no choice of course, they had to fire him. But it shows how one actor's misbehavior off the set can ruin a whole show if he's a central character .

My guess is that they had to remove him from the production because of the disagreements between the rest of the cast. My guess is that if he had tried to mollify the cast members who think he's guilty, instead of doubling down on his innocence, those disagreements would have been manageable.

---

Separately, I wonder if Smollett came up with this scheme on his own, or if there's an unnamed Svengali watching from the wings. Maybe a Fox executive somewhere, slamming his forehead on his desk, muttering over and over, "that isn't what I meant, you jackass!"

FOX EXECUTIVE: The only way you'll get a raise is if you become a bigger name.

JUSSIE SMOLLETT: Hold my molly and watch this.

I gave myself 1 minute to come up with a better plan than Jussie for the same effect. I believe I did.

1. Go to small town, bring big white friend who can blend in in case things go really south.

2. Find most unfriendly to your people bar you can.

3. Be really annoying, don't be aggressive, just loud and flamboyant.

4. Wait for nature to take its course. Might not work the first time, but if it goes beyond a half dozen I'd be very surprised.

You would get a beating and all the " fagotts " and " *******" you could handle. Without actually doing anything legally wrong.

How dumb is this guy? Or did he have significantly less than a minute to come up with the idea?

First three potential problems:

1. Finding big white guy prepared to die for your hoax
2. Picking the wrong bar with meaner patrons than you expected
3. Pretty voice/face irreparably damaged and ends career anyway

The point of his hoax was to be seen as the strong gay man who sucessfully fought back. He does not stand much of a chance of this in this scenario

Derail about dogs moved to AAH; that is not the topic of this thread (nor, as ever, is it each other).

I was going to say the same thing.

By the way, the guy completely wasted the time and resources of the hospital staff as well with his ******* hate hoax.

I wonder if his health insurance will deny coverage as a result of this?

Probably not. I suspect they want to just get as far away from this as possible. Take the small hit to just move on and not get involved.

Are the brothers forced to forfeit the $3500? Or will they have to pay income tax on it? Payment for services.

BREAKING: Jussie Smollett's character to be removed from 'Empire' for the remainder of the season, producers say.

Guess his crocodile tears and his moron attorneys stunts did not work...

Well, I guess you can add wrongful termination to the list of things Jussie's Posse will go after! They're like sharks in wolf's clothing!

.../fun fact, one of his security guards yesterday coached one of TBD's kids in football.

And? No on-set skuttlebooty?! We're fighting over the smallest of crumbs in this thread, TBD. Give us a little sugar!

A better plan would be everything he did up until he got police involved. Should have just told them he wanted to move on with his life. Media coverage would take care of the fame part if it were going to stick.

I find this post offensive. Assuming small town America by default, is just looking for an excuse to beat people up that are different from them.

Yes, but the peripheral details involved would contribute to further fraud against the police. The actual mailing is the fed's department.

I'm wondering if they'll be able to present any actual evidence that he was responsible for the letter. It's obvious that he was, but the reasonable doubt standard might be hard to meet. Although at first one might say the similarities between the two incidents are evidence enough, a simple defense would be to say that he got the ideas for the attack from the letter sent to him, thereby explaining the similarities. Of course that would require admitting that the attack was faked, but he might do that to combat a more serious mail tampering charge.

I can see that. But a DUI is a relatively common and not all that controversial thing. Plenty of celebs, judges, professionals, etc get DUIs; hopefully you learn, get help and move on. It’s forgiveable, IOW. This hoax hate attack, I would think, not so much. I’m sure some percentage of his fan base will forgive him but I can’t imagine the broader public will.

I just don’t see how a prominent attorney like Garagos, at this point, isn’t urging him to come clean because it is beyond obvious he wasn’t a victim in this case. Instead we get this tripling down. Just weird.

Garagos wants his money, that's why. Additionally, he gets more publicity as an attorney the longer this thing drags out. His reputation won't suffer regardless of the outcome. He thrives on being in the limelight and on taking his clients' money.

It's a soap opera. They can.

It's actually a very well done show. I watched the first season, years ago when it first aired. I didn't continue because soap operas in general don't hold my interest, largely because the turns of events are so flexible. I reach a point where I can't disregard that the outcomes are completely arbitrary, regardless of what's been foreshadowed or what the plot seems to be leading up to.

If they could write out Charlies Sheen from "Two and a Half Men", they can write out anybody.

I may have to binge watch this show just to see how they do it on such short notice. So far my only exposure to Smollett is his minor role as a Xenomorph victim in Covenant.
