horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

The issue going forward now is that there will be Empire cast and crew who will not want to work with Smollett. Not want to have him anywhere in sight.

ETA: Not exactly ninja'ed by TBD but now my point doesn't matter much.

It might be different if he just admitted it.

But they don't want a narcissistic liar hanging around the set.

Always be wary of a public statement of support. Precedes just about every firing of every professional sports coach everywhere.

After that, both Smollett and his attorneys can continue to allege Smollett's innocence while explaining the racial and homophobic bias of the police, prosecutor, media, and public at large were just too great for a fair day in court.

I can see that. But a DUI is a relatively common and not all that controversial thing. Plenty of celebs, judges, professionals, etc get DUIs; hopefully you learn, get help and move on. It’s forgiveable, IOW. This hoax hate attack, I would think, not so much. I’m sure some percentage of his fan base will forgive him but I can’t imagine the broader public will.

I just don’t see how a prominent attorney like Garagos, at this point, isn’t urging him to come clean because it is beyond obvious he wasn’t a victim in this case. Instead we get this tripling down. Just weird.

It's not the DUI, it's throwing your own brother under the bus to take the fall for your DUI...

It's like when you're a kid and you ask your dad, "How are you doing fixing that engine?" and he grunts, "Yeah, yeah, fine, great," only for it to explode thirty seconds later and cover him in oil.

Garagos is paid to do what this narcissism-disordered guy tells him to do. I am innocent - now defend me because that's what I'm paying you to do!

They haven't said yet if he will return next season yet, but I wouldn't bet on it.

So I guess they need to come up with new story lines now. The final season of House of Cards kinda sucked too IMO, but what can you do? I watched it anyway having already watched the first 5 but it just wasn't the same without Spacey. They had no choice of course, they had to fire him. But it shows how one actor's misbehavior off the set can ruin a whole show if he's a central character .

it would be one thing if he did this on his own but he roped in other (hoping for a career) cast members. don't see people forgiving him for that.

it's possible they know better than show their faces but I can see the view taken that them being paid potentially far less were taken advantage of someone making far greater.
