horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

It looks like the feds and CPD will have to work very hard to get Jussie convicted of anything.

Just reading the stories on the net, it looks like Jussie has some pull or some friends in high places.

They better have a strong case.

Different question...

Can anyone imagine a jury that would not convict Smollett?

If it's seen as just an actor trying what ever he can to further his career I think he might get away with it. It would be seen as a "pure" act of self determination. I guess you could call it the Donald Trump Defense™.

TBF, Jussie's scenes getting cut story was from TMZ.*

I didn't repeat it until after it had been confirmed elsewhere. Maybe I'm reading too much in to the phrase "in flux". Can't imagine they are increasing his role right now. Maybe the phrase "all publicity is good publicity" should be on my mind.

I believe the mentality that SGM is referring to is this from Graham2001's post:

SGM's response:

Sadhatter's response to SGM:

I think this is where everything left the rails since SGM's initial post didn't say anything about racist accusations.

ETA: In Paris there's a street bordering the Seine named Quai Louis-Blériot

'k

The punishment from people with that mentality is to claim racisim, homophobia, etc. If one does not immediately believe the story.

My comment was essentially saying " I believe this action is a consequence of this mentality. And I have seen it in this thread. "

Here is a question for Jussie.

If the police had brought forth two white suspects, and said we found them a block away, does this look like the guys that did it?

What would Jussie have told them?

Would he be willing to subject two innocent people to the certain media attacks, that would have followed?

Well, he threw his own brother under a bus for a DUI charge...

Real answer would be him laughing in a racist manner whole their lives were ruined.

What he would say? " I couldn't have let them take the fall. I would have confessed right then and there. That's why I made sure no one was around, I didn't want anyone getting hurt. I just *sniff* wanted attention brought to the race violence and sexuality based violence that happens every day. "

Tim Pool just mentioned this:

Apparently, the letter contained a white powder.
This got the FBI involved and the Post is a Federal organisation.
That potentially makes the fake hate letter a federal crime.

I'm Dutch, so I don't know how this works. But I remember a case from the eighties where some Hollywood writer was caught with three Cannabis plants in his yard and that was a federal crime and they sold his house from under him and stuck him in a pretty nasty federal jail. Again, I don't know jack about US law.

We don't know what the charges will be but I keep reading that a fake terrorist letter with Tylenol powder has a maximum sentence of 5 years in Federal prison.

Using the U.S. Mail makes it a federal crime. Even without the powder. The powder just makes it a worse federal crime.

Mailing the letter like that was a big mistake. Jussie probably didn't realize what would be set in motion.

The letter caused the FBI, the Postal Inspection Service, a HAZMAT team, and all sorts of other agencies to get involved.

Here is the wiki piece on our Postal Inspection Service:

This part is not new information nor controversial. This is definitely a federal crime and was already being looked at by the FBI before the "assault' case happened.

This crime could lead to jail time for someone. Don't think asset forfeiture is likely to apply here but can't say I'm completely clear on that.

I have also read that lying to Federal officials has a maximum sentence of 5 years as well. He could be charged with both crimes (letter and lying) though I don't know if the FBI has asked Smollett anything yet.
