The guy who could turn Dump a blithering idiot in debates won't be running: Al Franken. I'm still pissed that he walked away so quickly. Was there more that was so bad that he gave up a Senate career because of it?

Trump will just call him Booby-grabber Al and win the debates. Everyone else can cry foul and say that Trump himself has claimed to have done much worse but people can be put off from voting for Al Franken. Trump’s voters are not put off by the same thing. We have even seen that here on this forum.

Axiom, somebody who is as far to the left as you would like could never win a general election.

If memory serves me correctly, a few years ago the august brain trust of this board laughed at my contention that Donald Trump could win an election. Surely, somebody that crazy and stupid couldn't win against Hillary Clinton! Who was right on that one?

As I posted earlier, many of the positions which have been traditionally considered "far left" in US politics are actually majoritarian now. There's no reason why somebody "as far to left as I would like" could not win, at least as far as the will of the voters is concerned.

There are, of course, other factors that would make it difficult for such a candidate. The powers in this country would do everything they could to pillory such a candidate and prevent them from ascending. (As they did with Ralph Nader, and, more recently, Bernie Sanders.) It would be very difficult. Difficult is not impossible, though.

Well, yes, but Dolt 45's voters are misogynists - which is part of their white supremacism - and people who are so ignorant that they believe his crap about the "border crisis". Although I will agree that Franken should have gone through an investigation before resigning, I'd hope that dems would do better than...R. Kelly, maybe? He might be on the left politically, and is overall about as odious and ignorant as Toupee Fiasco is...

ETA: I forgot to add, all anyone would really need are the folks who did debate prep with Hillary Clinton. She pretty much had him raging and spewing insults and nonsense by the end of all 3 debates.

I think the idea at the time was that by voluntarily getting rid of Franken, the Democrats would have a moral bargaining chip they could spend to force the Republicans to get rid of Moore.

There was probably also the hope that at the height of the #metoo craze, the exchange rate on such a chip might even snowball from Moore's ouster to Trump's ouster.

In the event, Moore didn't resign - He just lost the election. The Guardian called it a major blow to Trump, but we can see how that turned out.

The Democrats railroaded one of their better lawmakers out of office, and for nothing. They would have been better off purging an actual sexual harasser from their ranks.

As delicious as those debates seemed to you, keep in mind the effect they had on swing voters in certain key states that Clinton needed to win, but didn't.

Strategies optimized for stacking up even more redundant votes in San Francisco and New York won't help the Democrats win the entire country.

I would say it's parallel to it. I suppose you can be a white supremacist and a feminist all at once.

True enough. Any suggestions for another title that is misogynist and white supremacist (as well as anti-LGBT, anti-Muslim, anti-semitic, etc)?

I dislike "Neo-Nazi" as almost giving too much credit, and "alt-right" as vastly too weak. "Nazi wannabe" is the best I've come up with thus far. And yeah, this is an aside.

Interesting observation here:

Of the nine candidates officially running in the Democratic presidential primary, only one is a heterosexual white man. And that guy, former Rep. John Delaney, generally polls somewhere between zero and 1 percent.

But of the 17 Democrats reportedly still pondering a presidential bid, all but one is a straight white man. It’s hard to chalk that up to coincidence. Clearly, the women and minority candidates sensed that the water is warm for them, and the straight white men appear to be worried that this is just not their year.

No doubt. But Franken, the satirist, could reply in a way that would make Dump look silly......

.... in my dreams, anyway. :(

He'd do well against a fool like Dolt 45. I'm just saying Franken's hardly the only one who would do well against him.

Or the straight white men are sitting back and letting the womens and minos go at each other, knowing that six phone calls will raise them a hundred million dollars and that two of them, at least, are actually still considered the front runners.

See how that works? You can take any isolated snapshot in time and use it to show something if you work hard enough. Biden's got a ten point lead on everyone if "everyone" is Bernie. Only Harris is getting close to their numbers. If I'm Biden and I want to run, I do the talk shows and panel shows and keep on the attack on behalf of the Party and make no announcement, whatsoever. That's not to say that he can't accept Rotary Club and Kiwanis invitations to IA, NH, SC, etc... There's just no need to declare.

Of course there's a need to declare. The other campaigns are staffing up. If all the best people are gone, it doesn't matter if you are considered the front-runner. You need skilled operatives in place in Iowa and everyplace else there's a caucus. Sitting back has already allowed Harris to start gathering momentum.

Andrew Yang was on the Joe Rogan Experience, nearly a 2 hour podcast

Andrew Yang comes across as a very knowledgeable and likeable person. A Universal Basic Income of $1,000/month seems over the top to me but the notion of having a UBI of some kind, seems like a good idea. A carbon fee and dividend(as proposed by the Citizens Climate Lobby) would be a variety of UBI.

Remember a white male hasn't been on the Democratic ticket in the general election since 2004. That's not likely to change soon. FMW's rant isn't fooling anybody, Plugz McKinsey's got one foot in the grave and the only reason the Democrats will let this stroke victim pretend he's got a shot at the presidency is because he's an advocate for ethnic replacement.

Yang makes for a great President, which in this day and age almost by definition means that he makes for a lousy candidate.
