No, but it will show how quickly people will defend a sketchy story if the alternative makes them feel gross, which is a legitimate problem, as this case shows.
 
Perhaps I missed it (it is a long ass thread), but how do these Nigerian men prove that Smollett was lying about the race of his alleged attackers? We all know by now how unreliable eye-witness testimony is, especially when it is attenuated by the stress of the situation at hand (which would of course be heightened for the very "victim" of the crime). Is it so hard to believe that perhaps these men attacked Smollett of their own volition and he mistakenly perceived a white nose when there was none?

From my perspective, racism is alive and well and present in something very close to 100% of humanity.

How it manifests varies widely, of course.

One way it definitely doesn't manifest is the way Jussie Smollett made up and got his Nigerian buddies to help him fake.

Don't mistake people saying "okay yeah, things like this don't happen" with them saying racism is done with.

Racism will never be done with any more than sexual desire or jealousy or greed or pride or love.

Incorrect. Rather, it's that the same people who come up with plainly ridiculous explanations and excuses every time a black person is attacked or killed by a white person, even when there's clear evidence that the black person was doing nothing wrong (See, Jordan Davis' magical shotgun, Eric Garner's non-chokehold that every MMA fighter and ref that has spoken up agrees was a chokehold, Trayvon Martin's super-strength and Xray vision, Darrien Hunt's sudden decision to commit suicide by cop, and instant change of mind, Freddie Grey flinging himself around while handcuffed hard enough to break his own neck, cell phones that magically turn into guns, Ferguson civilians "rioting and looting" by standing with their hands up in their own residential neighborhoods, Philando Castille's Quickdraw Mcgraw attempt to shoot a cop after informing the cop he had a legal gun, and this is only a partial list) are here screaming that this must be a hoax.

We knew these guys were racists, it's been obvious for years. And not everyone who is suspicious falls into that category. But some of the people in this thread clearly do - I won't name them due to TOS, apart from Skeptic Tank who has the honesty to state outright that he's a white nationalist.

ETA: I should add that these guys are aware of the fact that I'm black, and have repeatedly shown that they apply the same to me - if there's a police shooting and I say "well, I'm on the fence" they read it as "the cops are absolutely all murderers". If I distinguish between the violent white supremacism of the KKK or the Charolettesville marchers, and the Black Israelites' black supremacist rants with no violent follow-through, it means I think black people "can't be racist".

IOW, quite a few people on this thread have proven, again and again, that they are incapable of seeing anything but the absolute worst in black people. When I refer to "the white supremacy brigade", I mean those particular posters, not every person who is skeptical of this particular incident.

If later the incident proves to be fabricated and the initial suspicions are confirmed, a person is still a racist for having those suspicions.

Well, the ones who resort to the Black Brute stereotype to justify every beating or shooting of a black guy are, in fact, racist regardless of the outcome here. Those who are skeptical, but look at evidence, aren't.

Sounds like a set up where the alleged victim gets to claim proof of their agenda regardless of what really happened. Further, anyone who cast doubt on the veracity oft he claims is still a racist regardless of what really happened.

But, in truth, we're back to having little to go by.

Okay, then I'll return to my old position. Police are still working on it, I hope they catch the guys that did it.

(And as for why I say this, I see no reason to think that the percentage rate of hate-crime hoaxes is any different than that for most other crimes - which puts it at under 10%. Possible, but unlikely. Two friends of the victim being arresting in connection to the crime is interested, but now the police said "WHoops, never mind", which sets it right back.)

They weren't in Nigeria, they were in the US, and the proportion of gay Nigerians is exactly the same as gay Americans.

So they totally wrecked their home, and now they are released and no longer even considered suspects? WTH?

The two brothers arrested in connection with the reported attack on the “Empire” star Jussie Smollett were released without being charged on Friday, a police spokesman said. They are no longer considered potential suspects.

“Due to new evidence as a result of today’s interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the ‘Empire’ case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete,” Anthony Guglielmi, the Chicago Police Department spokesman, said in a statement.

The police went from describing the two men as possible suspects for whom there was probable cause to believe they were part of the crime to releasing them, without explanation as to what had changed.

In a brief phone interview late Friday night, Guglielmi said Smollett was still being treated as a victim. Since Smollett reported the attack, the Police Department has said several times publicly that it has no reason to doubt his story.

Not quite. However, it will, for the third time this year, show that the MSM is more than willing to take a story based on flimsy evidence and fiercely flog it because it fits their narrative that America is a country full of racist white people.

sounds like the brothers said something in the interview that the cpd now have to follow up on

i cant think of many things they could say in an interview that the police would call new "evidence" instead of say "alibi"
