It seems this Elwin person, like so many Christians that find sin to be the most interesting part of religion, only finds Armageddon, the rapture, the end of times and all that kind of silliness to be interesting for sadistic enjoyment, like predicting events that may worry or scandalize part of the population.


We often forget that our outrage about Elwin's shenanigans is also the kind of reaction he is expecting to get for his personal pleasure.
 
For my dad it was non stop to the deadline and silence after it passed. Later after seeing his leader on tv blaming the Roman calendar changes or the neighbor's dog for the error. Three times....

He found a new church after the 3rd strike.

I cannot fathom where his thoughts went most of the time. He was always among the few truly destined for glory no matter the church he chose.

I have a theory that the root cause of a conviction that the world will end in your lifetime is an inability to conceive of the world continuing to exist after you have ceased to do so. I think it might be something like autism, the brains of these people could even be wired differently to normal.

Now we have just managed to scrape through another close call with total destruction, I reflect on another such occasion where Harold Camping was calling the tune. Harold had quite a following although he changed the date a few times as I recall. The Thinking Atheist put this video together after the latest non event:

I presume that this is one of those "can't lose" scenarios, in which those of us who labor under the delusion that nothing has changed are, by definition, lost and damned. The greatest subtlety is to be undetectable.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to pay the phone bill after all and eat the sandwich for supper.

Elwin has proven to be yet another prophet who doesn't know the day or the hour. Funny that these self styled prophets are quite happy to quote the bible when it suits their purposes but ignore the biblical warning that "nobody knows the day nor the hour".

It's everything crystal clear, like the waters of the River Murray flowing through downtown Adelaide (Sorry, I'm channelling the prophet :D).

But I'm sure Elwin, though his finest logic, is going to consider this whole situation a tie, consider making any further comment here to be redundant and move into the next "prophesy" in his list of flavours.
