He reacted, and thought he owned them with his reaction. And still thinks so. Heck, everybody would if it wasn't for the negative coverage.

Trump is not capable of feeling embarrassed. He can only feel affronted or frustrated, and reacts to both with anger. He has the emotional maturity of a toddler.

The stupid thing is that by blaming someone else now, after his claim that he'd take responsibility for the shutdown he might as well put up a neon sign saying "I'm doing the wrong thing and I know it", if he really believed he was acting in the country's best interests he'd be the first to own it.

Trump lies to the military about their own pay:
Speaking to troops at Al Asad Air Base during his surprise visit to Iraq, Trump told troops: "You protect us. We are always going to protect you. And you just saw that, 'cause you just got one of the biggest pay raises you've ever received. ... You haven't gotten one in more than 10 years. More than 10 years. And we got you a big one. I got you a big one. I got you a big one."

In fact, military pay has increased every year for more than three decades. It was raised 2.4% in 2018 and then 2.6% in the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act. The 2.6% pay raise is the largest in the past 9 years.

Trump is not insecure : he has absolute faith in himself. He wasn't embarrassed by Obama, he was frustrated by the bogus format of the event which denied him his right to reply. It was a setup from the start, but you never see that mentioned in the reporting, oh no. Had he been allowed, Trump would have stuffed his cast-iron Birther case into Obama's face and totally owned him.

That's how his mind works. He's like a toddler, and you can't embarrass a toddler.

Toddlers are incredibly insecure. A scolding from a parent can send them into a full fledged panic. They just externalize the insecurity: it's entirely the parent's fault for being mean to them, not their own for writing on the wall.

Do you think someone who holes themselves up watching cable news talk about their failings is a person brimming with self confidence?

Chuck and Nancy went too easy on him. They could have left that room with more blood on the floor.

I do wish they had admonished him for not using their proper titles in an official environment, but it's just as well because that may have overshadowed what did get focused on by the media.

In the future though, I would hope they remind him to use their titles.

In five days the new House is seated, and the first thing they will to is to table and pass the Senate Spending Bill, then send it on to Trump's table to be signed. He can either give in and sign it without his funding, or refuse and then be made irrelevant when the House and Senate vote to overcome his veto. If he lets the second happen then he will have shown the world, and America that he is no longer relevant, and if he does the former, then he has let down his vocal base. Either way he is watching the ice crack around him and he is losing it more and more, and those on the Left just have to sit, smile and watch the events unfold.

He can also, as I understand it, not sign it but not send it back either. It then becomes law in 10 days. I wonder if he knows that.

Never let a toddler know when their behavior is annoying you. They are doing it on purpose to get your attention. Do not give it to them. Be strong, wait for them to move on or suggest something more constructive to do, and then engage them.

In this situation making an issue of titles would only have handed Trump a perceived victory by getting under their skin. What they should have done is call him "Donald" in return, because that'd rankle his fragile ego a hell of a lot more.

The United States looses soooo much money on Trade with Mexico under NAFTA, over 75 Billion Dollars a year (not including Drug Money which would be many times that amount), that I would consider closing the Southern Border a “profit making operation.” We build a Wall or.....

.....close the Southern Border. Bring our car industry back into the United States where it belongs. Go back to pre-NAFTA, before so many of our companies and jobs were so foolishly sent to Mexico. Either we build (finish) the Wall or we close the Border......

.....Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are doing nothing for the United States but taking our money. Word is that a new Caravan is forming in Honduras and they are doing nothing about it. We will be cutting off all aid to these 3 countries - taking advantage of U.S. for years!

Brad Blakeman: “The American people understand that we have been played by foreign actors who would rather have us fight their battles for them. The President says look, this is your neighborhood, you’ve got to stand up to protect yourselves. Don’t always look to America.”

For their sakes, I hope that his Wharton economics teachers are either dead or at least unable to read Twitter.

I don't think so. He would perceive others taking the discourse down to his level as a win for himself.
He doesn't consider his level "down." They aren't even peers. They are Chuck and Nancy, and he is Mister President. Trying to insult them by ignoring their titles telegraphs how much he values his own.

Trump doesn't have a personality in the traditional sense. He's all projected persona, there's no person in there.

Psychological tricks aren't gonna matter to him.

Trump is a moron. I'm also not sure he can close the Southern border regardless of his threats.

It would be easier to invade and occupy Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama and just fortify the 50 mile Panama Canal then it would be to make a secure wall across the entire United States / Mexican border.

Trump if you are reading this, that doesn't mean I think you should do that instead, just pointing out how absurd what you are proposing is.

That's called a pocket veto. And I'm sure one of his toadies will tell him. Saves the President from signing a bill he hates as well the embarrassment of being over-ridden.

It's kind of ridiculous...but hey.

The number of ways we give people in government to just stall on things where there's zero chance of it not happening and nobody is even pretending otherwise just to save face annoys me to no end.

Like if a bill passes in a legislature/executive style situation (President/Congress, State Governor/State Legislature/Etc) with enough votes to override a Veto, just pass the damn thing. Don't send it to the President, let him sit on it for 9 day, 23 hours, and 45 minutes, send it back to Congress, make them go through the motions of passing it. Just pass it and save the dance for when the vote is close or in the grey area.

Of course he does. It's not an adult personality, but it's there. All he is is ego and insecurity. How do you think all these countries play him like a fiddle?
