Cont: The Trump Presidency 11: Insert something funny

The thing is that most people on the left don't have smoke coming out their ears, they are just watching the clock. Trump has 5 days of power left to him, and then it's all but over.
This. January will be the beginning of the end. The El Alamein of the fight against the Trump trainwreck.

What power he retains will be over foreign affairs, so things are going to get even hairier I suspect. The Founders put much thought and effort into constraining the President within the Federation's borders, but were pretty lax when it came to foreign parts. Treaties ("foreign entanglements") aside, the President seems to me to have a pretty free rein in matters of diplomacy and trade.

Trump is not insecure : he has absolute faith in himself. He wasn't embarrassed by Obama, he was frustrated by the bogus format of the event which denied him his right to reply. It was a setup from the start, but you never see that mentioned in the reporting, oh no. Had he been allowed, Trump would have stuffed his cast-iron Birther case into Obama's face and totally owned him.

That's how his mind works. He's like a toddler, and you can't embarrass a toddler.
You are only seeing the outer facade. He has a blatantly insecure toddler POV.

The man is supposed to have an MBA. MBA courses love to teach game theory. Game theory does teach that there are other favorable outcomes outside of zero sum game parameters.
....

Trump does not have an MBA and has not claimed otherwise. He is unreasonably proud of his BA from Wharton, part of the U. of Pennsylvania, to which he transferred from Fordham.

Wharton does not consider him one of their star alumni.

:boggled:

I'm satire challenged, could I get a translation if I'm missing something?

I believe that the point that acbytesla was making was that in order to preserve the SOGH (sanctity of golfing holidays), Trump had originally decided that he gave a marvelous showing in the Chuck and Nancy and Invisible Mike meetings, so he had informally (although what's formal and informal with off-the-cuff statements and tweets is open to discussion) said he wouldn't allow the shut down and would continue to Florida. Two days of him tuning in Fox and seeing them quoting Limbaugh and Coulter that Trump had betrayed his base was enough to convince him that he needed to man up and live up to his threat to "own" the shutdown to protect his promise to his base.

Coulter was particularly Coulteresque, e.g. vicious. Breitbart carried the ball, too. Trump's "base" is only as secure as the alt-right let's it be. At one point Coulter retweeted an earlier post of hers from the Obama or Clinton years about how great it was that we have the Impeachment option.

Trump flippin' well unfollowed her on Twitter! And then when he reversed field again and said he was going to stand by his shut down threats, she tweeted “BREAKING: Doctors announce world’s first successful spine transplant,” ... She also slammed the kleptocracy and suggested that maybe Jared good buddy in Saudi Arabia should spend a little time with Don Sr., as that might get us our wall.

In short, Trump caved twice.... first to the people who perhaps wisely advised him the owning a shutdown was not a brilliant move, and then by reversing himself again in reaction to the far right barrage of criticism.

I disagree. I'll agree that he's in many ways like a toddler, but his EQ is up to about ten years old when it comes to insults. He takes every one of them personally and he considers things that others of us would ignore to be insults. He invested (wasted) all that time in Montana because the mean old Dem went after Doctor Robbie, who Trump thinks is just about the best thing since sliced Flynn bread.

Lawyers for President Donald Trump are invoking the government shutdown to seek a delay in a court case over claims that Trump is illegally profiting from business his Washington hotel does with foreign countries.

Justice Department attorneys representing Trump asked a federal appeals court on Wednesday to postpone indefinitely all further filings in an appeal related to a suit that the governments of Maryland and Washington, D.C., filed over Trump’s alleged violation of the Constitution’s ban on foreign emoluments.

He's using Justice Department lawyers?

Trump Tweets

We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with. Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve!

Why not just close all the borders and declare a state of national emergency? Implement military law, impose a curfew, suspend all elections until further notice, and start jailing those disloyal people in law enforcement.

The GOPers (except maybe the Freedom Caucus :)) can read the entrails of the 2018 mid-terms. They don't want a lingering, frozen government. I think (hope?) enough of them would put their own 2020 reelection ahead of Dump subservience and override a Dump veto.
They have to hold out for a while more, because if they cave in to liberals they appear too liberal. Also, the more times they overrde a veto the more Trump apears like a lame duck. Which he is at this point.

Paraphrasing Stephen Miller's claim that NAFTA 2.0 will pay for the wall ... "The wall will be paid for by Mexico in monthly installments"

The wall is on lay-away! For Mexico's sake, here's hoping they made the purchase on Black Friday, or otherwise obtained a discount.

I'm going to bask in the monthly payments Mexico is sending, meanwhile at peace with the world knowing that NK is no longer a nuclear threat, etc.

Meanwhile, as internal debate consumes mind space across the West....

Current world events are, in sum, a victory for and masterful stroke by Putin, credit to the devil where due. He has thoroughly, deeply divided the West internally and fed the West an alt-right narrative that will be its downfall. Thanks to his puppet, Trump, no more Intermediate Arms Treaty, or one with Iran, or alliance with the Kurds, or solid friends in Europe, whose sons died in Iraq and Afghanistan for someone who says he's no friend of anyone. The UK is in a tailspin all its own, eating itself alive. Turkey has essentially left NATO. Russian actions in the open Black Sea go uncontested. Syria is Putin's, as is Crimea. Now -- the breaking news motivating this thread update -- Iraq calls for total US withdrawal after Trump's inept mishandling of his imperial visit. The Middle East belongs to Russia and Iran, Turkey has its little chunk. The US has been discredited across the board.

Who is Donald Trump, and whose tool is he, witting or no? Is the internal strife distracting from greater, or at least, major concerns and trends? Events speak for themselves.
Indeed. One might add the "wins" in NK and the Philippines, and growing East Asian rapprochement with China. A true surrender across all fronts and theaters. Nice call! :D The greater concern I am sure you had in mind, of course, is hair-trigger intercontinental nuclear warfare. Barely a blip in the media, in spite of being "a real deal" and so potentially the biggest news in the last 75 years following what may have been a legitimate first test....

Meanwhile, the total erosion of US power and ability to influence events accelerates, one former ally at a time.
Let down by U.S., Syrian Kurdish leaders look to Russia and Assad
BEIRUT (Reuters) - Alarmed by a U.S. decision to leave Syria, Kurdish leaders who run much of the north are urging Russia and its ally Damascus to send forces to shield the border from the threat of a Turkish offensive.
FILE PHOTO: Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters walk on the rubble of damaged shops and buildings in the city of Manbij, in Aleppo Governorate, Syria, August 10, 2016. REUTERS/Rodi Said/File Photo... Their call for a return of Syrian government forces to the border, which Kurdish fighters have held for years, points to the depth of their crisis in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s abrupt decision to withdraw forces.
Admirable loyalty shown by this man Trump. Nothing he would not do for Ole Vlad, especially jingle car keys daily and keep the news cycle busy with minutiae between each major betrayal.

I presume it will now be irrelevant if a SC judge pops their cloggs as any new appointment would be a matter for the next President?

I presume it will now be irrelevant if a SC judge pops their cloggs as any new appointment would be a matter for the next President?
Sure. Because if there's one word that sums up Mitch McConnell, it's "integrity."

From the article

Justice Department attorneys are representing Trump in the case because the D.C. and Maryland suit was initially filed against Trump in his official capacity as president. Justice lawyers typically represent all government employees sued in connection with their official duties. The case was later amended — at the suggestion of U.S. District Court Judge Peter Messitte, the judge overseeing it — to name Trump personally as a defendant. He now has private lawyers also representing him in the litigation.
