Cont: The Trump Presidency 11: Insert something funny

Trump would just start another scandal. He's been pulling the metaphorical fire alarm to get out of the intervention over and over his entire term.

Like I've said it's a real world Gish Gallop.

You know how Varys described Little Finger as so power hungry he'd burn the Kingdom down just to be King of the Ashes? Trump would burn the Kingdom down to distract us from a piece of spinach stuck in his teeth.

I get that at some point we are gonna probably have to find Trump's "Planck Distraction" sooner or later... but I don't think its gonna be pleasant.

Man, I had never heard that term before. Strange that this is named after the physicist.

I'd like to see a Show Your Tax Returns campaign, intertwined with Russia. It writes itself in a 30 second ad.

Narrator: President Trump, please explain...
clip: Trump says he has a relationship w/Putin, has communicated directly
clip: Trump says he has never communicated w/Putin
clip: blanket denials of Russian contacts

Narrator: But it turns out that your closest advisers and family members actually met with Russian operatives
[image of headline about Trump Tower meeting]
Narrator: And you told a whopper about that meeting.
[clip of whopper]

Narrator: And you were in negotiations with the Russians at the same time you were deceiving the American people
[image of letter with focus on Trump's signature]

Narrator: And your long time confidant knew about the hacked emails before this was public knowledge
[picture of Stone with his prescient words quoted]

Narrator: And then you sell out the country in favor of Russia?
[image of Putin preening in front of Trump]
[clip of Putin and MBS high-fiving]

Narrator: Show us your tax returns Mr. President. The American people have the right to know.
Or something like that.

Basically, I think ads pointing out very specific very important lies and deceptions of Trump over and over and over again keeping the story focused BECAUSE Trump is a master at changing the story.

Oh that's just a running joke I have about trying to find the ultimate state of something that is obviously being done recursively for sake of recursion I started back during the Jabba threads. The "Plank Hairsplit" and "The Plank Hijack" and so forth. We people start getting out of doing the thing by just... doing the thing again you have to force them out of the cycle.

Trump's entire strategy is to distract us from our current anger over what he's doing by doing something else that makes us equally or more angry so he stays in this weird twilight zone where we never made at anything he's doing long enough to get mad at him in an emotional sense. We're always in a constant transitional fugue state of getting angry about the next thing. It's weird and disturbingly effective.

Now sooner or later this will have a breaking point, you can't be recursive forever and that moment, not a policy or political thing, is what is going to take done Trump, the first thing he does that for whatever reason he can't immediately distract us from to the point where his opponent's anger is actually focused for more then a few days (or sadly few hours at this point.)

If the Dems really want to take down Trump that's what they got to do. Decide a single factor they want to take him on over... and don't let him distract them by doing something else outrageous. Don't let him pull the proverbial fire alarm.

Now how to do that? *Throws my arms in the air* Damned if I know.

More to the point, if and when they do have a hearing on something, the Dems need to actually use their 5 minute increments to build a case and tell a story. Neither party seems to know how to conduct an effective Congressional hearing at this point; they are all lobbing random stuff at the witness in between their grandstanding speeches. If they had one cohesive theory or plan and stuck to it, the public might actually be able to follow along.

Meanwhile, as internal debate consumes mind space across the West....

Current world events are, in sum, a victory for and masterful stroke by Putin, credit to the devil where due. He has thoroughly, deeply divided the West internally and fed the West an alt-right narrative that will be its downfall. Thanks to his puppet, Trump, no more Intermediate Arms Treaty, or one with Iran, or alliance with the Kurds, or solid friends in Europe, whose sons died in Iraq and Afghanistan for someone who says he's no friend of anyone. The UK is in a tailspin all its own, eating itself alive. Turkey has essentially left NATO. Russian actions in the open Black Sea go uncontested. Syria is Putin's, as is Crimea. Now -- the breaking news motivating this thread update -- Iraq calls for total US withdrawal after Trump's inept mishandling of his imperial visit. The Middle East belongs to Russia and Iran, Turkey has its little chunk. The US has been discredited across the board.

Who is Donald Trump, and whose tool is he, witting or no? Is the internal strife distracting from greater, or at least, major concerns and trends? Events speak for themselves.

That's my point of target ads and messages at Trump. PICK a couple of horrible things and HAMMER him on it. Narrow the focus.

The man is supposed to have an MBA. MBA courses love to teach game theory. Game theory does teach that there are other favorable outcomes outside of zero sum game parameters.

Trump appears to understand none of this. It is like he purchased the MBA without ever doing anything work.
In short.... he's an idiot.

He studied economics and still talks about trade and tariffs the way he does?!

He had people for that.

It takes 2/3 of both houses to override a veto.

I don't think I've seen anything saying Trump had actually vetoed the spending bill. Or if Congress even sent it to him. Does anyone know?

The Senate version was different from the House version. I don't think they've ever been reconciled yet.

Then both chambers would have to vote again, on the reconciled version. Once they both pass the same thing then it can go to the White House.

Trump would call that collusion, or more likely, "colusion."

This is a House Amendment to the Senate Amendment to H.R. 695 which is itself essentially a continuation of a previously agreed to budget with (mostly) minor alterations.

The actual budget bills, and I think seven are still outstanding, that's a whooooole other can of worms.

You've got to feel sorry for the poor guy who's lost their tent.
Trump could just give them the sport coat he came with, though not as waterproof:

It's still on the wardrobe handler's arm here.

The Democrats OBSTRUCTION of the desperately needed Wall, where they almost all recently agreed it should be built, is exceeded only by their OBSTRUCTION of 350 great people wanting & expecting to come into Government after being delayed for more than two years, a U.S. record!

The reason the DACA for Wall deal didn’t get done was that a ridiculous court decision from the 9th Circuit allowed DACA to remain, thereby setting up a Supreme Court case. After ruling, Dems dropped deal - and that’s where we are today, Democrat obstruction of the needed Wall.

Translation: he just had a briefing on Mueller's probable obstruction of justice charges and how he makes it worse for himself when he tweets about it because it establishes intent, as evidenced by these courts citing his twitter when ruling on other matters.

Trump did not write that. Not a chance. Too complex an idea for a start. Do they think the world cannot tell? This is not the work of a senile fool who can barely read a short sentence properly out loud.

Playing which Tweets he wrote, which ones a member of his staff wrote, and which ones someone else wrote but he added his two cents to is my favorite game at this point.
