There are many lies in that. But there is one other point. Everyone in that room has received a raise bigger than the less than 3% cola adjustment... because they have been promoted or time in rate. A raise with a promotion is a raise
Everyone in that room knows what their own experience of pay rises is, and Trump is telling them it's something different. He is a peculiar person.

ETA
note to self. Always read the last post in a thread before you make your post. Quoting Shakespeare immediately after liberals are mocked 1 for their fancy book learning does somewhat validate the position of the Trump supporters.

(1) although not in a serious and derogatory manner.

MORE ETA:
using footnotes in a post further validates the charge.

MORE, MORE ETA: Reading itself seals the indictment.

Trump could just give them the sport coat he came with, though not as waterproof:

It's still on the wardrobe handler's arm here.

Look how tiny his hands look in that photo. Now, that's funny.

If enough Republicans had the balls to do that [override a presidential veto.]

The GOPers (except maybe the Freedom Caucus :)) can read the entrails of the 2018 mid-terms. They don't want a lingering, frozen government. I think (hope?) enough of them would put their own 2020 reelection ahead of Dump subservience and override a Dump veto.

And a whole slew of them will interpret those words the way some Christians interpret the Bible, to mean anything that fits their already existing narrative.

I think the point is that Trump didn't realize he was embarrassed by Chuck and Nancy until the Right-wing pundits told him.

Mmm, Iiiiiii don't think so, he was pretty reactive in the news conference when he was pulling his nuhuh reply to Pelosi and Schumer.

Though I do agree the crowd reaction (in this case the news media) amplifies his embarrassment.

I think the opinions of their local parties (which they're re-connecting with this festive season) will be crucial. The professionals and otherwise career-minded cannot be loving what's going on, and fully appreciate the 35% issue.

Outside the Washington bubble-reality certain truths may come to lodge. Better Pence 2020, and if 'twere done, 'twere well it were done quickly.

Because it makes the Democrats mad.

That's why he's winning. His base didn't elect a good leader or a good person, they elected a troll and he's a master at it.

Trump is never going to lose a meaningful amount of support as long as he gets under the skin of the vague collective of "The Dems/Liberals/the Left" because that's the job he was hired for.

He's doing a great job if you take a step back and realize what both him and his supporters think it is his job to do.

He can do everything wrong. He can make every mistake. He can lie. He can contradict himself. If at the end of the day the "sissy, hybrid driving, latte sipping, big city, coastal elite lefties with their fancy book learning" have steam coming out of their ears, he's winning.

The thing is that most people on the left don't have smoke coming out their ears, they are just watching the clock. Trump has 5 days of power left to him, and then it's all but over.

In five days the new House is seated, and the first thing they will to is to table and pass the Senate Spending Bill, then send it on to Trump's table to be signed. He can either give in and sign it without his funding, or refuse and then be made irrelevant when the House and Senate vote to overcome his veto. If he lets the second happen then he will have shown the world, and America that he is no longer relevant, and if he does the former, then he has let down his vocal base. Either way he is watching the ice crack around him and he is losing it more and more, and those on the Left just have to sit, smile and watch the events unfold.

He reacted, and thought he owned them with his reaction. And still thinks so. Heck, everybody would if it wasn't for the negative coverage.

Though I do agree the crowd reaction (in this case the news media) amplifies his embarrassment.
Trump is not capable of feeling embarrassed. He can only feel affronted or frustrated, and reacts to both with anger. He has the emotional maturity of a toddler.

Oh no no no no no. He is incredibly insecure and as such this stuff tears him apart inside which is why he overreacts to it. Obama embarrassed him and look at the extent of the grudge Trump's carried since.

In response Trump has some serious denial, his embarrassment stays quite well buried inside him.

Trump is not insecure : he has absolute faith in himself. He wasn't embarrassed by Obama, he was frustrated by the bogus format of the event which denied him his right to reply. It was a setup from the start, but you never see that mentioned in the reporting, oh no. Had he been allowed, Trump would have stuffed his cast-iron Birther case into Obama's face and totally owned him.

That's how his mind works. He's like a toddler, and you can't embarrass a toddler.
